Played this back in the day on the Xbox 360 and thought it was one of the better games in the SH series. So I grabbed a copy of the Steam version to replay on my ROG Ally after many years. Game is actually not that bad to be fair. It's definitely one of the weaker silent hill games out there, just not as horrible as some people make it out to be. The negative review is not for the game, just the broken pc port. It's genuinely unplayable so don't waste your money.

Wow, is this bad. Just wow. To start off, you need fan patches to even run this mess. However, not even patches can salvage the game from the choppy framerate and crashes during loading. When the game decides to run, you get subjected to the worst combat in the series by a comfortable margin. And they really want you to do the combat. No running past obstacles for you, kid. Critics, per Wikipedia

Homecoming's average at Metacritic is 71 out of 100 for the PS3 version, 70 out of 100 for the Xbox 360 version and 64 out of 100 for the PC version. As the second external developer working on a Silent Hill entry, and the first for a home console iteration, Double Helix were under scrutiny from reviewers and Silent Hill fans to see how a Western developer would handle the franchise; many reviewers found the change in developer to be a positive move overall, while some, acknowledging faults in the final product, expressed interest in seeing further Silent Hill games from the same developer. In contrast, Zero Punctuation commented that the game was as an example of Japanese franchises being…

Game 20 of 2026: Silent Hill Homecoming Felt like an action horror with SH slapped on. Dodging felt extremely clunky. Game disregarded existing SH lore. Pyramid Head is exclusively tied to James, yet he's here because Konami wanted some fanservice. Music was great tho. Onto Downpour.

I co-wrote the manual for Silent Hill: Homecoming, I'm pretty sure it was that one. I had a video game job before my comic book job and it was always nice to get to touch stuff that touched my heart as a kid. I would never call it an honor because it's work, though. anyway, ban remakes

To get this to run you will need the "4gb_patch" from NTCore, this lets the game use 4gb of ram and will stop start up crash, you will also want the "unknownproject" "Version 3.10 All-In-One" patch, this fixes the capped 30fps bug and Controller Support To set to Borderless, <path-to-game>\Engine\, open "vars_pc.cfg" and change "FullScreen=true" to "FullScreen=false" you can then use Borderless gaming to force Borderless

Its only really worth playing if you want to play ALL of the Silent Hill games. In that case, you'll already be using a ps3 emulator for SH3, and you should probably just do the same for Homecoming. The PC port is buggy, broken, and made for Windows Vista. You need to install 3rd party patches for it to even be playable, and even then its pretty rough. For the actual game, Its not that bad. Its pretty buns compared to the Team Silent games, but it really doesn't deserve to be the SH…

SH: Homecoming is a mid game and even lower mid silent hill game. It was a good enough first attempt from a western studio to try and keep the franchise alive, and I personally dig the beats it borrows from the Silent Hill movie. It's not a bad game to get on sale, finish in 10~ hours and move on to the next... ...but it IS a bad game when it comes to the PC version. I don't believe I've seen such a lazy broken port: - Locked 30FPS - I'm not convinced that the resolution switcher works, game…

Yeah i am sorry but this is one of those games you just gotta watch a summary video on YouTube instead of playing the actual game. Think of one godamn awful PC port, the game is literally unplayable most of the time and heavily relies on community mods in order to work. But even with the mods installed the game will still crash, making you lose all of your progress if you didn't reach a save point. If i read the reviews i probably wouldn't have wasted 7 BRL on this, atleast it was on sale but…

The worst version of one of the worst Silent Hill games. I actually enjoy Silent Hill: Homecoming, but the Steam version is an absolute disaster. I really wanted to like this game and thought, even looking at the reviews it couldn't be that bad? I was sorely mistaken... The game port itself is REALLY poorly optimised. It constantly froze whenever it had to load a cutscene/ area transition or even open up the save menu, especially in the later portion of the game. It crashed multiple times because of it, so I almost had a heart attack every time it froze before I had chance to save my progress. I'll also add, I have a fairly powerful PC…

At the beginning, it was kind of fun, but after just a few chapters, it turned out to be the most boring piece of art I’ve played in a long time. Terrible port. I made it to the end of the prison before crashing on the way out after the boss (no opportunity to save) and I'm done at this point. It's been constant problems, despite even getting the community mod to fix a lot of it. Guns not wanting to fire when I click, puzzles not letting me press obvious buttons when i should be able to. I'm tired of it. I wanted to finish this re-play, but it's not worth it with this jank port that was never fixed.

This game doesn't work straight from the box. When I attempted to start it, all I got was a black screen. A lot of the criticism I’ve heard focuses on the gameplay—specifically how it leans more toward action compared to earlier entries. Honestly? I didn’t mind that at all. There is a decent game buried underneath but I just personally don't have the patience to get past the crashes and freezing. Bought this game on sale and was playing on steam deck, using the deck's controller settings and a community layout to make this work with a gamepad pretty decently. I am once again back on my BS of trying to get the PC version of Silent Hill Homecoming to function and capture in OBS. No luck but when I installed the game on my Steamdeck it mysteriously had subtitles?! I've never seen it have subtitles on my desktop PC.
