What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 263 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (4,764 of 5,228 positive).
Players praise the game's unique art style and addictive gameplay. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the 1.0 UI changes as hard to read and out of place. [1][4] Some players find the game's randomness frustrating and the mid-game repetitive. [5][6][7]

one of the most artistic and creative rougelike games with some of the worst gameplay ive ever experienced. This game has so much potential, but its so boring it feels like your not ever working towards anything. I want to love it becaue I adore its style, animation and gameplay machanics but its actual gameplay is so horendously boring that i cant recommend it. no matter the character i feel like every run is …

This game has sauce. It's got an excellent art style and the gameplay is addicting, perfect for quick runs between day to day stuff. The art of the game is what drew me in, and thankfully, the gameplay provided substance to the style! However, I'm pretty disappointed with the UI changes that the full 1.0 release brought. Feels like the devs had lightning in a bottle with the early access UI; it was simple, fit the …

It's All About Tempting Fate(Percentage). Roguelike/lite has always been about dealing with randomness in order to come out on top. Some try to play around the randomness. Others embrace it fully. Sol Cesto is the latter. This slot machine/dungeon crawler/roguelite hybrid is all about altering the percentages to your favor. Something about winning the percentage always brings a deep yet slightly disturbing …

This game is beautiful, interesting, and very unique. It's also one of the first games in years to genuinely piss me off, and it does so consistently. Given that the most integral gameplay mechanic in Sol Cesto is the random chance of which enemy you'll land on with each action, you never really know what will happen next. This keeps the game exciting, but it also means that regardless of strategy, there will often …

I like its combination of strategy and luck. The tooth upgrades and shop items allow for different strategies. I really like the art style. Runs great on the Steam Deck; some text is occasionally difficult to read.
Summarised from 34 of the 376 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
81% of the 263 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sol Cesto. The complaint that keeps coming up: 1.0 UI changes are hard to read and feel cheap. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just 2 weeks after the 1.0 release, Sol Cesto has reached 150,000 sales!!! Chariospirale and I never imagined we'd get here when we started the game 3 years ago. Thank you for your support, we're living something incredible thanks to you 😭
positive · AI labelView post →Extremely good game, beautiful animations, but please, PLEASE, for the love of GOD devs, bring back the old text borders and erase the ones with stars, PLEASE. The other borders had so much personality, the ones with stars feel like placeholders and really dont fit the game, plus feel heavy to the eye and make the texts hard to read. Once again, please revert it back, and thanks for the game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Today is the release of Sol Cesto (at 5 PM Paris time) and we need your help: if you buy the game, please leave a review on Steam. It will help us tremendously! we need to reach 50 reviews as quickly as possible to ensure the game’s success. THANK YOU 🌞

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've never worked this hard on a game, but I had so much fun doing it! I can't wait for you to play Sol Cesto in just 2 weeks 😱
positive · AI labelView post →Man, I really loved this game, then I liked this game, and now I kind of hate it. The beggining is fantastic. I love the theme and the art style. The mechanics are also innovative and interesting, while remaining familiar enough to be comfortable to learn. Then, the mid-game hits, where you unlocked most of the stuff and most characters and are now getting more familiar with the game loop. That's when you start noticing the little annoyances: The fact that the animations are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit after completing the game to 100%, scroll down for the end thoughts: ----- Original Statement ----- This game had potential to be good, it really did... But it's been left at a state that just makes this game badly unfair rather than fun random. It constantly punishes you for trying to play the game and wanting to have fun, leading you to restart the first screen until you can get anywhere to a managable position, sometimes the randomness feels so unbalanced that there are people…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That's a lot of reviews for our little roguelite, thank you 😭 We're working hard to improve Sol Cesto: fixing bugs, balancing the game, and listening to your feedback (and there's a lot of it)! In the coming weeks, we'll share an updated roadmap to give you a better idea of what's coming next 🌞
neutral · AI labelView post →Almost 2000 reviews on Sol Cesto!!! 96% positive for recent ones (94% overall) 🤯 If you played the game and can drop us a positive review, that would be awesome. Thanks!
positive · AI labelView post →Been playing lots of demos last couple of Steam Fests, ehre's a little tribute to one of the favs - Sol Cesto! 🌞
positive · AI labelView post →I just learned that Sol Cesto is one of the few games that did better in 1.0 than in Early Access 🙌 It's so cool to see our game in the GameDiscoverCo newsletter. I've been following it for years!
positive · AI labelView post →I just feel like the indie ttrpg / OSR scene would go ape for Sol Cesto. The game is much easier to play than the screenshots make it look, and its gorgeous and really damn fun! store.steampowered.com/app/2738490/...
positive · AI labelView post →Sol Cesto Fanart! Been obsessed with this game lately, such a cool art style.
neutral · AI labelView post →I just delivered a new Sol Cesto update to our publisher! - a bunch of bug fixes - some balancing tweaks - and a massive optimization upgrade. The game should run more smoothly (on Steam Deck too)! It took me ages 😅 Now we can finally get back to making new content 👀
neutral · AI labelView post →The new update for SOL CESTO is live, with a new biome, a new character, and a few more things to discover... Also, the game is on sale on Steam 💸💸💸 Please, let me know if you ever get lost in the dungeon 🌞 store.steampowered.com/app/2738490/...
neutral · AI labelView post →PSA: OTXO and Sol Cesto are this week's Epic Store giveaway games. Two stylish roguelike gems that could not be more different. One is Hotline Miami in a cursed hotel. neutral · AI labelView post →Sol Cesto's art style and aesthetics are really great and unique, and its game concept, while flawed, is certainly fun for a good while. But on a technical level, the game is currently not in a state to deserve the v1.0 tag. Everyone who is responsible for the technical state of this release should be embarrassed. That includes both the programmers, and everyone responsible for setting the release date. EDIT: As of 2026-04-17, a few of these problems have supposedly been fixed, but I haven't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I downloaded this game, I played it for about six hours straight, because the initial game has lots of options for metaprogression which is one of my favorite part of any roguelite. However, as I went to bed, I started to feel that the game was too heavily based on randomness to really be worth sinking any more time into. I can't say what happened, but when I woke up the next morning, I saw through the matrix. I began to understand how to progress, how to avoid taking unnecessary…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's been a long time since I've shared any news about Sol Cesto. On Tuesday we should be releasing the biggest patch the game has ever received. It required the help of a second programmer (thanks Everade 💖) but it fixes a huge number of bugs and localization issues 🌞
neutral · AI labelView post →if you listened to our Side Story episode about Sol Cesto and heard us talk about Michael Brough's work, this is a very kind offer and a very cool place to get into it - a game about five wands where you don't know what the wands do but buddy... they do something

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FINALLY! We released an update for Sol Cesto: it fixes lots of bugs and makes the game much more optimized, especially for the Steam Deck. PLUS, it adds cloud saving! Also, Sol Cesto is currently 20% off on Steam 🌞 AND, we're working on the FLUTE update 🎶
neutral · AI labelView post →Apparently, Sol Cesto is a perfect game to play while waiting for Elden Ring Nightreign ?! And it's LESS than 9 DOLLARS ?! store.steampowered.com/app/2738490/...
positive · AI labelView post →Weird little game, Sol Cesto, with the opening cutscene of the year.
neutral · AI labelView post →Have to rate it up since stylistically it's beautiful and fun to casually play. I feel that there's a limit to the depth with the gameplay and a lack of variety though. I find myself playing the exact same way every time. Most of the teeth or options don't really make a significant difference, then there are others you obviously pick to win the game with. You sort of experience everything you would see within a couple hours worth of gameplay.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KAZ just launched on Steam, and there's even a special Sol Cesto cameo! The game looks super fun and juicy, congrats on the launch! 🙌 (There's also a bundle with Sol Cesto 👀)
neutral · AI labelView post →I am writing this to collect my thoughts after 100% completing this charming, fun and frustrating game. I beat the game with all characters and got all achievements after slightly under 30 hours. I think I spent about 10 hours unlocking the most important unlocks, and then the rest on finding the secrets and figuring out how to consistently beat the game with all characters. In the end, I find the game has nothing more to offer after that. This compares poorly to something like Slay the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So happy to have a Dice Have No Eyes x Sol Cesto bundle! I’ve been constantly playing the game lately, and I think it’s excellent. There are so many secrets and wild little details in it, and the way it handles randomness actually isn’t that far from Sol Cesto 🌞

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank you @docgeraud.bsky.social for the opportunity to review #SolCesto (which I used as an excuse to discuss RNG play). Also be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a @caseyexplosion.bsky.social cameo... sort of. Gosh she's so cool. Anyways this game is fun. If my avatar had thumbs, they'd be up.
positive · AI labelView post →I didn't realize we had so many new reviews on the Sol Cesto demo! People seem to dig the whole vibe of our game, and it makes me so happy 🥰
positive · AI labelView post →I am really sorry to leave negative review, since I adore the artstyle of the game and I think it is really nicely made, but (at least in my relatively little playtime) I got a feeling like there isn't enough mechanics to manage randomness, reducing the game to basically a slot machine...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haters of this game say it's literally just gambling. Lovers of this game say it's literally just gambling. In all seriousness, the game is built on randomness, even more so than most other rougelikes, but it's not as unfair as it might seem. It's pretty forgiving with small mishaps which allows for a lot of risk taking. The artstyle is obviously a main selling point but don't let that deceive you. There's a lot more to this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm happy that after more than a year working on Sol Cesto with @chariospirale.bsky.social, I still take pleasure in adding new things to this little game of ours 😊 (But I also crave making other games 🙃)
positive · AI labelView post →It's very weird, it's the first time of my life where I can eat whaterver I want on the menu or buy a game just to try it. Thanks so much to everyone for buying Sol Cesto, we are still working hard on it ! DO NOT WORRY : I will eventually make comics book again and return to the cave where I belong.
positive · AI labelView post →Just so you can see how big of a difference it makes, here’s a graph of our sales over the past two weeks. The first spike? That’s him playing Sol Cesto live on Twitch. And before that? The game was on discount (with already decent daily sales) 🤯
neutral · AI labelView post →I really want to get back into game jams to feel good about myself, but I also feel guilty when I’m not working on finishing Sol Cesto 😐

positive · AI labelView post →I waited quite a white for the full release but unfortunately it didn't click with me. It has an interesting art style burdened by uninteresting gameplay. There's too much randomness with too little variety between runs. And if there's one thing I hate more than anything in a roguelite, it's having to choose between using gold in the mid-run shop vs. skipping shops to use it for meta-progression.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Give a follow to @chariospirale.bsky.social if you like the artstyle of our game 💖 He did an amazing job on Sol Cesto!!!
positive · AI labelView post →Each run feels way too similar. The gameplay is practically identical with every character, and even switching between characters doesn’t make a huge difference. I unlocked everything pretty quickly, and honestly, I lost interest after around 4 hours.

Given that the most integral gameplay mechanic in Sol Cesto is the random chance of which enemy you'll land on with each action, you never really know what will happen next. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those "needs a mixed review" games. The first few hours of the game as you are learning the rules and experiencing floors for the first time are quite fun. . . And then it just kind of steadily declines. The RNG of the game overtakes any "strategy" within the first 10 runs you do as you are doing the exact same actions 100 times, hoping for decent floor layout. This is not helped by the fact that you have maybe 2 or 3 possible actions to take throughout the entire game. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finally found time to try @docgeraud.bsky.social and @chariospirale.bsky.social new game: Sol Cesto! It's quite a blast and addictive! I didn't expect this to be my type of game and I'm really hooked on the concept. Congratulations for the amazing game-design and art-style !
positive · AI labelView post →finished Sol Cesto with peasant, was trying to punt the run the whole time and it ended up just coming together perfectly game good
positive · AI labelView post →"You gotta have Luck" - You are thinking about this game wrong. "Manage the Uncertainity" - You are on your way to mastering Sol Cesto.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's fun, has very unique looks and offers a very interesting take on odds management as the main mechanic. It's a betting game. That said only buy on sales. It's made in construct 3, which is for browser games. There are some weird hangups and softlocks, and the release version honestly runs a bit suspiciously compared to the EA. It also lacks basic features like being able to stop your run and return at a later date.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely amazing speedrun of Sol Cesto for @lefrenchrestream.fr!!! I'm so glad the game did not break live. 👉 www.twitch.tv/videos/26008... Thank you so much Amélia 💖
neutral · AI labelView post →Sol Cesto was one of my fav demos I've tried this year. And it's finally out in Early Access! 👀🌞
positive · AI labelView post →Early access Sol Cesto showed me a game with a lot of potential. The initial presentation is really nice: cool as hell art design and animations plus an intriguing albeit familiar setting, dungeon crawling, which never gets old. The gameplay is based on gambling but also very original, turn based, you interact and automatically "battle" the enemy in a grid with 4 lines each divided in 4 blocks and luck determines on which block you end up. Generally you want to battle only enemies you can kill…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game but VERY poorly balanced. The first 5 or so rooms of a 120 room run are the hardest, often times rolling unbeatable rooms which means you have to grind out the start a few times until you make it out. Once you clear the opening section the rest is usually smooth sailing. Game suffers from feeling unfinished, both from bugs and lack of variety. But overall fun concept, cool art style, and I like the way they weave in secrets and hidden interactions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I stopped playing because of the linux save files not syncing with cloud and the continue cloud save sync errors, I play on steamdeck, my home pc and my laptop, without the cloud sync working is a huge pain, waiting until the developers resolve this to really play the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't click for me -- some original concepts but each run is very similar. Virtually identical with same character but even between characters the difference isn't huge (only unlocked the first 3). Ultimately I lost interest rather quickly
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just popped back into Sol Cesto ahead of 1.0 this week and, yeah, that’s top of my 2026 list with a bullet unless the full release changes the game into another game entirely.
positive · AI labelView post →Sol Cesto had some of the best, most tasteful fantasy art to ever appear in a video game. It’s both frantically addictive and darkly atmospheric. I put 20 hours into early access and i’m excited to drop 40 more in Ver 1.0
