As cool as the concept is, Soma is just boring and tedious to play. I really wanted to like this game! But it borrows so heavily from the trope of "everything is broken," that it becomes a chore. Get in the ship, launch and, oh wait, we forgot the random 2 engine controls it didn't tell you about until the moment of launch. Fix the engines, launch, then "oh no, we hit a rock! Guess we better detour and fix the 15 …

Just finished the game… I’m crying… I can’t stop the tears and I keep thinking… This game is literally my favorite game of all time. I’ve never experienced anything like this… I’m a grown man crying like a little kid thinking about all this, about us humans, about our world, our earth… Who am I? Will I someday wake up 200 years from now and will it still be me? Will it even matter anymore? What is life? Why are we …

Imagine Outlast without the Camera, Imagine Resident Evil without the weapons, Imagine Silent Hill without the Lead pipe and now add one of the most layered, philosophically dense, gut wrenching narrative with a distopian ending masqueraded as an Utopia which lingers in your mind long after you have finished the game, yet no Replayability value except for the existential dread that you have to carry with you for the …

SOMA is a masterpiece and a must-play. The atmosphere is incredible, especially underwater it’s truly immersive. The sound design is phenomenal, so play with headphones. Graphics are solid and really add to the haunting vibe. The stealth sections could be better they felt a bit clunky but that’s a minor issue. The story, however, is amazing, one of the best I’ve ever experienced. Do not spoil yourself, especially …

SOMA feels less like a game and more like an experience you go through and honestly, i wasn’t prepared for how much it would stick with me emotionally.. it felt like walking through someone else’s nightmare and slowly realizing it was becoming my own. The story feels personal, heavy and genuinely heartbreaking and the line between the character and myself blurred at times that made every revelation hit even harder.. …

Players who liked SOMA talk about excellent story that questions identity and humanity; those who didn't talk about gameplay can feel tedious and repetitive. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Soma received "generally favorable reviews" according to review aggregator website Metacritic. Richard Wakeling from GameSpot gave the game a 9 out of 10, and praised the "engaging and thought-provoking" story, the "impressive" writing and voice acting, and the atmosphere and sound design, which together, fills the game with "dread" and provides a "chilling", "edge of your seat" feeling. However, Wakeling disliked the sections in which the player walks on the ocean floor, calling them "dull, plodding affairs" and "incredibly linear". Philip Kollar of Polygon also gave the game a 9/10 and wrote: "I don't know if SOMA will scare people as much as Amnesia did, but it is without a doubt a…

positive · AI labelView post →SOMA is one of the best science fiction video game stories I've ever played AND you can turn off monster deaths if it's too scawwy (it was too scawwy for me I'm a big baby I did, in fact, turn off the monster deaths)

I felt horrified, intrigued, sad, and introspective all at once. I can't recommend it enough. It is an absolute work of art that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

positive · AI labelView post →I played SOMA for about five minutes and was so scared out of my mind on WEENIE MODE that I gave up. Literally cowering in a corner in the dark in-game because of the sound design.
positive · AI labelView post →If you like sci-fi, play this masterpiece. If you like horror, play this masterpiece. If you like games, play this masterpiece. If you do not like games, play this masterpiece. F it, write your masters thesis on it too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SOMA is supergood. This game needs to be in your Steam library.
positive · AI labelView post →Just released the part I of my first ever multi-part Let’s Play series! SOMA was an incredible game that challenged my ethics and concepts of humanity, and I felt like it deserved its own dedicated videos. I hope y’all like em 🥹 ⏬ Link Below! ⏬ #Vtuber | #SOMA
positive · AI labelView post →Great Experience I'd like to start with the negatives, of which there are few. Mostly spoiler free. The Negatives Stealth Settings Puzzle Intuitiveness I have been playing games my entire life. I almost always play games on normal or occasionally hard difficulty. For the most part, I have had no problems. That said, now I work a lot more than I used to, and I don't have a lot of spare time to give to video games. The stealth in this game feels like it was designed to be a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spawned in to the game for the first time and decided to put my entire apartment in my toilet. I clogged the toilet so hard that the game froze. 10/10 would take that apartment sized dump again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is genuinely just unplayable slop that keeps breaking ME AND SOMA ARE PIVOTING TO GEARS OF WAR
negative · AI labelView post →SOMA by @frictionalgames.bsky.social was released 10 years ago today! Recommended! This sci-fi horror game is brilliant. If you don't like being scared, there's a safe mode (the creatures don't attack you). The game tackles some very interesting sci-fi themes (which are echoed in Alien Earth btw).
positive · AI labelView post →was shocked to find out that Soma has a Switch 2 edition, I've never seen it advertised anywhere and there's less than 150 Switch 2 editions total but they've randomly got one for what I'd consider a top 5 game of all time, that's like if Worms 3D Deluxe dropped tomorrow and it didn't suck ass
positive · AI labelView post →Soma really suffered from youtubers trying to play it as if it were a jumpscare horror game and not a slow-burning psychological horror story. It's like reading Roadside Picnic and acting like you're playing FNAF. Just a huge category error caused by media illiteracy.
neutral · AI labelView post →Sci-fi horror game SOMA was released 11 years ago today. A brilliant game. If you don't like being scared, there's a safe mode (the creatures don't attack you). The story packs a punch the way only sci-fi can.

positive · AI labelView post →I never play horror games or walking games, but it was recommended to me so I figured I'd at least give it an honest try. I am SO glad I did. This game was a breath of fresh air. I finished it only 12 hours on Normal mode and it was less 'scary' , more suspenseful. The game battles with the idea of identity, humanity, and purpose - forces you to make hard moral decisions and pushes you to think outside the box ( pay attention to every detail- literally! ). The enemies (on normal) are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so magnificent that even when speedrunning it still manages to be scary in many aspects: its atmosphere, art direction and story, and Mikko Tarmia's score is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard in gaming and it fits SOMA perfectly. Frictional Games is known for Amnesia games, but I believe SOMA is their best game to date. Looking forward to their next sci-fi project.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having Soma in a MH game is amazing, I gotta figure this out with the other games sometime Have some more screenshots! Jacket with no shirt still looks great
neutral · AI labelView post →SOMA is less than 2 quid. SOMA is one of the best sci-fi stories in games, perhaps even beyond. You should buy SOMA.
positive · AI labelView post →It's first-person horror game SOMA.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game was nerve recking, horrifying, and hopeful. The last part is an opinion and this game will put you through the existential exercise of what it means to be alive and human. Gameplay is outdated but it is satisfying enough to get you through what is really amazing about the game. The story. The story really does an amazing job making you question every decision you have made all the way until the end without forcing you to think one way or the other. I know that SOMA will have me ponder…

positive · AI labelView post →10/10 - terrifying psychological horror walking simulator with one of the best stories and thought provoking endings I've come across in any form of media. Guaranteed to give you that queasy feeling in your stomach and sense of existential dread. Ambience, atmosphere, and sound are phenomenal. One of the few games I read through the journals and listened to the audio logs just because of the story. For achievement hunters, this is a very casual achievement experience (play the game).

positive · AI labelView post →Game #1 of 2026 completed: SOMA A game that Is as fascinating as it is frustrating. As much as I hated playing SOMA sometimes, the story kept me going. And the ending did not disappoint in the slightest. Wow. That was AWESOME
positive · AI labelView post →Man... Soma is such a fucked up game...
negative · AI labelView post →Easily on the most unique experiences I've had playing videogames. first off, the horror aspect of the game. SOMA will make you realize what we fear isn't what we're prone to fear. So instead of throwing some cheap, loud jumpscares at you it tries its best to make you feel how you WOULD feel if you were to close your eyes and wake up 100 years or so from now (although yes, as a psychological horror game it does a very good job at making the atmosphere scary and that the creatures you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't a game; it's an experience! One, I truly believe everyone should share in! Never have I felt like this after playing a game. Never has a game effected me like this one! This game WILL help you understanding the difference between existing and living! Absolutely incredible and possibly one of the greatest stories of all time. Please! DO NOT PASS ON THIS ONE! YOU WILL MISS OUT ON AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is truly something. I bought it for $4.39 as a cheap scare for a horror night. Instead, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The game play is simple. Easy puzzles, straightforward objectives, and a few well-timed scares from the suspense and chase sequences. Honestly, the game play isn’t the reason I’m writing this review at all. It’s serviceable, but it’s not what makes SOMA unforgettable. I only mention it because It's what makes a review valid. The story is. SOMA…

neutral · AI labelView post →I appreciated every aspect of SOMA from the beginning until the very end. Even if it reminds us of Dead Space by having a companion or Bioshock for the underwater elements, it manages to transcend by its own merits, thanks to the high quality of the level design, the credible world with atmospheric horrors and the various decisions we take to make the experience ours and ours only. Frictional Games delivers yet another great horror game. On top of the scary monsters and…

neutral · AI labelView post →My friend recomended me this game like 10 years ago and my reaction back then was "yeah, i dont play horror games, its to scarry" And here i am now, just finished the game, writing this emotional mess of a review and sending it to the Steams ARK. Atmosphere, sound desing, dialogs are amazing, but the STORY is the strongest point in my opinion. Its an experience that will probably stick with you for a long time, maybe even spark some thoughts( surely did with me). It has no combat, no gunplay,…
