This was made in a time when games were made with love, and it really shows. Still holds up to this day. Just remember to save frequently.

A classic puzzle game that I spent hours of my childhood and now adulthood playing. The port is amazing quality, one guy has done what AAA studios have issues doing. It's smooth runs awesome on 4k monitor so i've avoided the jarring feeling of a 20 year old game haha. The port dev has also fixed many of the glitches. Genuinely wish there was a sequel, would buy it instantly.

This game switches back and forth between two characters, the Sphinx and the Mummy. The Mummy's sections are fun and creative puzzle platforming, and the Sphinx is more action platforming. The Mummy's gameplay is great, but the Sphinx's gameplay is just okay. If you're just judging the quality of the port itself, it's a pretty good port IMO, and includes nice stuff like a manual and a level editor. What I loved …

Fav childhood game, my dad used to play this and i was always watching him play back in 2007. Every day after coming back from school i was patiently waiting in excitement for him to come back home from work so i could watch him play this game. I'll never forget those great memories.

96% of the 184 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. The complaint that keeps coming up: no auto-save and too few save statues. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Sphinx was well received by much of the gaming community. IGN gave the game 8.5/10, calling it a "fun, challenging action-adventure serv[ing] up a semi-non-linear experience complete with huge worlds to explore, difficult and satisfying puzzles, entertaining weapon and item advancements". It was praised by critics for its unique characters and compelling storyline. The game's graphics were also highly praised for their quality. However, some criticism was directed at the lack of voice acting to coincide with the text-heavy dialogue. Commercially, the game performed poorly, with "sluggish sales [...] across all systems". The mobile release, which was not developed by Eurocom, received a more…

60 of 243 · most liked firstHuh. That's interesting - PS2 era Zelda-ish platformer Sphinx and The Cursed Mummy (currently on sale) just got a big remaster-type update. It's 75% off. store.steampowered.com/app/606710/S... Also it just recently got a huge fan-made expansion??? The one and only mod for the game, but it's BIG.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You actually lose/gain health in increments of 32. They could definitely have used a much simpler system, but what I'm guessing is that they simply re-used a health system from a previous game. Probably Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PS4 trophies for the PS2-era game Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy have surfaced: www.exophase.com/game/sphinx-... There was a Switch and PC HD port in 2019, so it is currently unclear if this is a PS2 emulated release or a port of the 2019 version.
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm enjoying the game so far but damn the combat Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is so ass! 😭
neutral · AI labelView post →Today is the twentieth anniversary of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, and this is still one of the best depictions of Anubis in any video game. Most games do a disservice to Anubis, but not this aged gem.
positive · AI labelView post →A 22 years old game, 10/10 for nostalgia and gameplay at its era. I still get the same vibes, like i'm back in 2004 and playing it after coming home from school. i definitely i recomment it and keep playing it again and again!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game as a kid but nostalgia wasn't enough to save it. It's very dated and there is no auto save feature and if you go 30 minutes or any amount of time through the game without finding a statue and saving and die, you lose all that progress. You HAVE to use a statue to save as well. There are too few save statues and if you even forget and you progress for over an hour and die you'll find yourself having to do all that over again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy literally ran the risk of locking a progression based door if you saved outside said door and then quit the game

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, I'm one of the few people who's played this game both on PC and on PS2, because I absolutely love it. Highly recommended. EDIT: Revising all my reviews as of September 3, 2026.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good RPG of old times mixed with puzzles and jump & run that I would recommend picking up on a sale without hesitation! The Soundtrack is also super awesome!! The rough playtime you'll get out of this game is about 25-30 hours so you *should* try this one out :-)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is a gem of a game. I love the mystery, the gameplay, and the fact that the game doesn’t hold your hand. It really gets the gears turning in your head, making the discovery of secrets and progression feel very rewarding.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game 203: Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy An action-adventure game with two very distinct playable characters, one of them focused on combat and exploration, and the other being all about solving puzzles. It makes excellent use of the Egyptian setting, with a vast, well-designed world to be explored.
neutral · AI labelView post →For keyboard and mouse: Space key is A, Tab key is X, Esc key is the Y button, and F is B. The Enter key brings up options menu like game audio ect. Backspace brings up the monsters, items and Notes area. Down arrow key brings up ability items like the shield where you can use it, using tab. Haven't figured out an easier way to use the shield so you kind of just have to have good timing, or you know, have a controller lol. I played this on PlayStation 2 when I was a kid. Never beat it though…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy still holds up!. I think it's the only game I ever bought in a grocery store that was stand-alone and not inside a cereal box like Roller Coaster Tycoon. Oddly, there were racks of overstock of this game on Playstation 2 in an IGA grocery store that never normally carried games. This Eurocom budget title became one of my favorites. I replay this on PC more often than most of my childhood games strangely enough.
positive · AI labelView post →Its a wonderful detailed 3d adcenture puzzle action platformer. The character design and mechanics are truly wonderful and cute. Its biggest issue is that the beginning is really hard to get into. YOu have very little help telling you what to do and many will put it down quickly out of borefom but once you learn the ropes of the commands and get past the beginning it really opens up and is really really fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty huge amount of options. But it's probably Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy on Gamecube. Turok Evolution is about on par with it tho, because that game is fundamentally broken on the cube. Borderline unplayable without a cheat code.
neutral · AI labelView post →A hidden THQ PS2 gem. Also don't save at the Pharaoh's door in the Cursed Palace. You will get stuck there and the door won't open.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 Perfect Puzzle game with Open World and Amazing MUSIC!!! I strongly recommend this game to anyone that loves simple puzzles with some action. They've really done an amazing job with the story, graphics, visuals, music and just the overall presentation. I wished there could've been a second game, but I'm super grateful that I was able to play it on PC (I'd originally played this on my NIntendo Switch with 50+ hours).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Twenty years ago I hit the run-ending locked door bug and vowed never to waste my time with this game again... Now that I've wasted my time with this game again, it's a pretty solid puzzle game (the Mummy sections) grafted onto a lackluster action game. Some parts are inspired, some parts are tedious, and don't expect much from the plot - this was clearly intended to launch a franchise and it ends with a lot of loose ends. It runs fine, but it's one of those games that's really just OK in a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best old games of its time. Most certainly a hidden gem thats worth every penny and every hour of playtime.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fantastic hidden gem from my childhood that holds up insanely well. I want to thank the PC team for showing so much love to it and making it better then i remember, thank you guys!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Post a game you remember playing but nobody else remembers: Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. I had this for PS2 as a kid. Played it again a couple years ago, and it's a solid action adventure game. Plus it has a fantasy ancient Egypt setting which you don't see very often. I recommend it! #blutoid
positive · AI labelView post →I grew up playing the platforming and action adventure variant of Tomb Raider, which gave you full consideration for exploration and enjoying the scenery. And I've been looking to replicate that experience ever since, having replayed the classics, tried my hand at Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine (was decent) and Prince of Persia 3D (was Okay) and some TRLEs. But this was the first time in years that I've been able to enjoy that 'kind' of platforming and puzzle solving (albeit of a…

neutral · AI labelView post →My eyes lit up when i found this game on steam a few days ago. I remember when I was a little kid often getting lost in the first half of the game because i often skipped cut scenes and this was a time where reading in games was important. Now that i'm older I was finally able to see everything the game had to offer and boy it took me 15 years to finally finish it. Now i am fulfilled. I'll revisit this game again in another decade and a half for the nostalgia again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I can't tell you how much of my enjoyment came from nostalgia, I can say that my most recent play through was a very enjoyable time and I certainly intend to play through again in the future.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy was pretty cool too. Sad we never got a sequel for that one. Not that you really played it for the story but there is always something a little sad about a cliff hanger that never gets resolved. My copy was bugged and just froze about half way through. Finally had to bite the bullet on that one and find a GameCube ROM to finish it.
neutral · AI labelView post →Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is like a whole-ass Zelda game, if not even better. It holds up way better than you could ever imagine. So, Sphinx has a lot in common with 3D–platformers of its era, but also something like Ocarina of Time or even Powerslave. It could be simple with some of its puzzles, platforming and fighting, but there are always catches—it doesn't dumb anything down, but teaches you just the most essential skills and then expects you to figure the rest out. The level design is…

neutral · AI labelView post →Pro: It's like a 3D Legend of Zelda, only it's Egyptian, and Link and Zelda are both playable characters with their own sections. Very-well designed platforming puzzles. Cons: Playable characters don't have shadows. There are some missables, and if you save in the final area, you're STUCK there, so listen to the warning the game gives you and complete all the sidequests first!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little game that I remember from back then, but never played. Super fun, with awesome music and works perfectly on the Steam Deck. If like me you want to go for achievements and (unlike me) want to be optimal, there’s a few missable achievements that required me to do another play through to get them. Look up the achievement guide on the community page and follow along if you don’t care for spoilers. If you do, the two biggest things to keep in mind are these: 1) at some point you will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a great game. Has everything you would want in a singleplayer game. Will have you playing for hours
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expected this port to have issues, but whatever dude they're paying peanut bars to keep this game stable has done a great job. 60FPS, widescreen, sharp graphics and no bugs/crashes. UI is small at 1440p, but I don't blame the one guy for not redesigning the UI around that. This is a very enjoyable and quality Zelda clone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has held a special place in my heart ever since I first played it at the age of 9. Now, at 30, the nostalgia is as strong as ever.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would definitely recommend Sphinx for those who love platforming, collecting things, challenges, epic storytelling, Egypt and some comic relief! The game is 23 years old (in 2026), but looks beautiful, lush colours / artstyle make the structures, sands and waters a joy to traverse (and traverse you will). No voice acting but that doesnt detract from the characters personalities. Puzzles are relatively easy and mostly environmental. I was going to give this a 9 out of 10, but only having 1…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. A Zelda-like adventure game released back in 2003. The copy I’m playing is on the PS2 but I recommend the remastered versions on pc or modern consoles since it’s smoother and fixes some infamous glitches. It’s cheap and easy to purchase and I recommend trying it.
positive · AI labelView post →I'm so sad this never became a franchise. Sphinx and the cursed mummy is such a fun ocarina of time clone. add to it the creature collecting element and the edgy Egyptian theme and you have what felt like the perfect video game back in the ps2 era. PERSONALLY, I think the switch has the best version, the gyro on it is easier to use and if you set it up right it makes the blow pipe challenges a cake walk. but regardless of how you play, you are going to have a fun time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of my favourite games from my childhood. an ancient egyptian-inspired take on action-adventure classics from the gamecube and ps2 era. as the game progresses, swap between two characters and their narratives whose actions and accomplishments influence one another's story from a distance. Sphinx is your classic action hero and Tut (the titular Cursed Mummy) is your immortal crash-test dummy during the dungeon/puzzle-oriented sections of the game. strongly recommend this oft over-looked gem.

positive · AI labelView post →This game is great. During its original release, it boasted a unique setting, excellent character design, generally solid controls, and a refreshing game play loop thanks to it swapping between Sphinx's typical 3D adventure sections and the Mummy's puzzle sections. Decades later it is still a solid entry worth playing for fans of the genre or of Egyptian settings. When playing as a child, I remember the puzzles being challenging and was sometimes frustrated. But I invested several hours in…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was one of the first games I 100%’d when I was younger. I collected everything. This was my “Legend of Zelda” which is fitting—it’s very obviously inspired by it. This is a port done by a single developer, made fantastically, and with modding support. Consider looking for mods that restore some of the cut content. Please, for the sake of your own sanity, save often. The controls are what one might expect from a 2003 game. And you might want to look up guides a few times for a few of the…
