This is one of those rare sequels that manages to honor the original while still carving out its own identity. Sure, the first game probably had the stronger story and one of the greatest plot twists in Star Wars history, but The Sith Lords goes deeper. It’s darker, more thoughtful, and asks questions that stick with you long after the credits roll. Gameplay-wise, it feels familiar but smoother. The improvements are …

I played this back when it first came out, and coming back to it now… it still hits. KOTOR 2 is one of those games that didn’t fully land for everyone at launch, but the older I get, the more I appreciate what it was trying to do. It’s not just “be the hero, save the galaxy". It’s slower, heavier, and way more interested in making you think than making you feel like a badass every five minutes. The writing is still …

This game is fantastic, even in 2026, but you MUST install the Sith Lords restored content mod. Even more importantly, you must NOT install the m478 Droid planet mod. It is amateur work in an otherwise professional game. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

Critics, per Wikipedia

According to The NPD Group, Knights of the Old Republic II sold 458,000 copies in North America during the month of December 2004. It entered their chart for the month at number 11, and at number 3 on the Xbox-only chart. After its North American release on Windows, it debuted at number 2 on the PC chart for the month of February. In the United Kingdom, the game debuted at the top of the weekly chart, beating Blizzard Entertainment's much-anticipated online game World of Warcraft, which was released in the same week. Kotor 2 is a complex game. Not because its combat is obtuse or difficult, no. If you wanna kick its ass, focus on two weapon fighting, max your strength as much as possible and look for anything that gives you bonuses to Strength, Constitution, Dex, Attack, and Defense, in that order. Spam force Speed and its upgrades and just march through the game undefeated. Nor because the story is somehow impenatrable. No, just pay attention to what your companions or force users say, and you'll…

Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords Why did I wait 21 years to replay this game? Having recently finished a replay of Knights of the Old Republic—a game whose entire plot I easily remembered even before replaying—I decided to give The Sith Lords another go. Get TSLRCM (The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod) before playing, since it adds back cut content and helps with some bugs. Overall, an excellent story. Probably the best writing I've seen in a game. It does build on the first game (play that first). Both games build on Tales of the Jedi (not the cartoon, the Dark Horse Comics miniseries from the 90's... you don't need to have read it to enjoy either game, but the arc with Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider is crucial to the plot of this game).…

Oh, KOTOR II. We've all know that the sequel is somewhat subpar to the original game due to all what happened during development, the cut content, and the game being rushed for a holiday release just because they wanted that holiday cash. As a massive KOTOR fan, I decided to play this just when the modern patch (which has the restored contend mod) was released and this is a whole new game, which made my experience so much better than playing…

The best story in a Star Wars game. Probably the best Star Wars game ever made. You play an exiled jedi who regains their power, defends the republic from shadowy sith conspirators, and are forced with morally gray decisions. At its heart, it's a Star Wars RPG. You can lean on being a jedi, or fight your enemies with the power of the dark side. These are the types of games that used to show up in stores for twenty bucks just telling you "Here's a ten to twenty hour experience, we hope you enjoy it!” and everyone moved on with their lives. Modern games just seem to want to lock you in with live services to keep you playing daily/weekly quests and eyeballing those 2.99 costume packs day in and out, which is why I’ve been on such a retro kick lately. I knew it was rushed out the door, but I didn’t expect the pacing to be this bad, specially at the start of act 1 and at the end of act 3. Played this game without nostalgia lens immediately following a playthrough of the first KOTOR. I thoroughly enjoyed KOTOR 2 despite having a little Star Wars fatigue going into it. The game is clearly not finished even with the restored content patch. Up until you return to Dantooine everything is good. Quests are interesting and involving, you piece the story bit by bit. But after that everything just devolves into boring gauntlets where you just run and you fight and you run and you fight. Kreia gives you some closure in the end but feeling that the game is not fully developed still remains. Combat on the other hand just feels good. I like DnD systems, and Obsidian…

On one level, it is a very fun video game. On another level, it is a philosophical treatise. The two are interlinked. Every character flaw, quest reward, and dialogue option might have allegorical resonance if you are careful enough to spot it. And also, some of the worlds and quests are really annoying and poorly planned. Pazaak is kinda fun. The pod racing is flashy but clunky. And the ending is tragicallly underfinished. Even without mods the game is much healthier on a technical level thanks to a "modern" patch by Aspyr. Its an old game and some of the restored content mods don't happen in chronological order. The influence system is also not perfect. However, a great game that tackles some serious questions about the force and is the engaging exploration if the force and a galaxy far far away ever tackled in the video game and i dare say all of the star wars medium. Don't go to nar shada as your first planet, you will get recked.

This is one of my favorite games of all time. I only have about 70 hours clocked on it on pc, but I'm not kidding when I say I played HUNDREDS of hours of it on Xbox (between original console, 360, and Xbox 1). This one had a rushed release, unfortunately, leaving some side plots as dead ends, so it's not as well put together as the original. But there IS a mod for KOTOR2 to fill in those blanks and patch up unfinished bits of the narrative, in general. Even if you've never played before, I'd…

Still a great game after all these years. Playing though with the restored content mod. when i first launched it was not playing sound over HDMI, I found that changing the sound in windows to 24 bit vs 16 bit worked, needed a restart plus removal of HDMI and re plugging in to work but had no issues since. U[pdate: might just be an issue for me but when i launched it today the sound had gone again! All i did this time is remove the HDMI cable and reinsert it (from the PC) it worked again so…

Quite literally one of the best Star Wars roleplaying d20 games I have ever played. The story and dialogue is incredible and the game is very very well written. Always worth a couple of playthroughs and would 100% recommend to all of my friends.

I loved playing the KOTOR games. I played the first one back on the original Xbox and have since replayed them both many times now. I would definitely recommend you pick this one up if you like Star Wars. I'd also suggest checking out some of the mods that are out as well. There are some that can enhance the game a decent bit. Overall, it's a great game.

I wouldn't recommend this as your first Star Wars experience but this game is most certainly a well written critique of the force and many things in the SW universe. Play it.

Never forget the combat technique of dual wield+master flurry spam or force storm when theres multiple enemies. Game is okay, its basically more KOTOR1(including the cant run above 60fps or bugs happen thing),download the mod for restored content, probably one for bug fixes for a better experience.

A darker take on the Star Wars universe. The Jedi are being hunted to extinction, you're one of the last. Gather allies, lead them down the way of the Light Side or the Dark Side. It has some points up from the first Knights Of The Old Republic, including a crafting system that lets you build your own weapons and upgrades, and the ability to influence your allies based on your Light/Dark Side choices. There are also a lot more Feats, Abilities and no level cap, allowing for a more free and…
