Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 66 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (58 of 76 positive).
Players praise the game's cooperative gameplay and charming aesthetic. [1][2][3] Many find the single-player mode frustrating and overly challenging. [4][5][6] Reviewers highlight the excellent music and character designs. [3][7][8]

StarCrossed is conceptually "cooperative pong". Each player controls one paddle and a star will bounce between them. You dodge enemies, bullets, and use the star to destroy things. Eventually you can charge a special move to destroy even more. For a single player, this is stupidly frustrating. You are controlling 2 separate characters potentially on opposite sides of the screen and expected to dodge homing enemies …

Warmed my heart to watch kids plop down and play together, trying to beat their high score. I really vibe with the alien magical girl designs. The story and characters have roped me in!

StarCrossed is an awesome game. My husband and I played it for a couple of hours yesterday on his computer. Today, I tried playing it on my laptop in single-player mode. Single-player mode is incredibly challenging, although not impossible. The game is a lot of fun in two-player mode, as it’s designed to be a cooperative game. Everything about this game is impressive: excellent gameplay, gorgeous artwork, wonderful …

Super challenging with one player, very cooperative with two. Great music, cute aesthetic, lots of fun!

All around an amazingly put together game: *Beautiful artwork *Catchy music *The game play is challenging but fair (coming from a single player here, it hard). *The story is already grabbing at me and I've only begun to get involved in the game play *The playable characters seem to have diverse communications between each other depending on what ones you pick, very cool detail and well thought out *The concept is …

positive · AI labelView post →Unfortunately I recommend StarCrossed. The steam tag of 'single player' is incorrect and the game frustrating to even attempt as a solo player. The combat is boring and sluggish, with deaths feeling all to often cheap. The music is the best part of the game and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to tracks throughout my play through. I wish the developers the very best for the future but StarCrossed should be crossed out of library.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the art style, and idea of the game, but as a solo player it was impossible for my brain to figure out how to control the two characters separately. Really disappointed because I was super excited to play it. 10/10 art and character design though, plus bonus points for great idea. 2/10 for playing alone
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super smooth classic shoot em up that brings me back to stuff like Everyday Shooter and Geometry Wars but with a more story driven and character themed aesthetic. Great co-op play either couch play or over remote play. Playing solo is also super challenging but rewarding to see how far you can get while dealing with two players at once. Overall a really good time and a fun challenge to take on the leaderboards.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Throwback to when I played the most emotionally charged game of Starcrossed to figure out with my GM if my PC and this one NPC had admitted their feelings for each other before they reunited
positive · AI labelView post →https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ojSdS3zK-0 A combination of visual novel and arcadey bullet hell like game with a unique way to play. You're a band of five magical girls like heroes who are in space fighting evil. You play two at a time to control and the gameplay is controlling both to move with a star bouncing off each other which is how you destroy the enemies by having the star go through them. The closer your characters are, the faster it bounces off each other. There are some nice…

neutral · AI labelView post →i'm not always a fan of shmup style games but i love co-op. i appreciate how the volleying gameplay puts the focus on supporting and cheering on your teammate. it makes it accessible, but feels like it has a serious depth of skill too. the character art and visuals are so cool and beautifully rendered. i'm digging the story mode so far this game is so darn charming!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SUCH a charming and cute coop game!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played Starcrossed a few years ago and happy it's finally out. I'm impressed by its new story mode -promoting an array of diverse characters with an awesome art-style. Starcrossed is a hard action arcade game with vibrant and lush characters and locations. I can't wait to play and die more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been following StarCrossed's development for a few years now since I first played it at PAX East - I later had the opportunity to play a demo of the game on my stream for their Kickstarter campaign, and then I was asked to do voice work for one of the characters (The Idol!!!) - so admittedly this review is a *tiny bit* biased! HOWEVER - This game is such a blast and is best played with a friend, partner, or family member. The story mode is fairly short, but very sweet and not lacking in…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an awesome co-op arcade game with a narrative driven story mode! The game encourages co-op play but also allows you to play single player by controlling both characters, which adds a nice challenge for those who are looking for one. There's also an arcade mode with leaderboards for those who like seeking high scores. The dialogue throughout the story is driven by the characters you choose, so you can replay it with different character combinations to learn more about each one of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so cute! I love the characters and aesthetic, and it's so great to see more local co-op games being released. The gameplay is fun too, based on a simple core mechanic with interesting added iterations and challenges. I can't wait to play more :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finally played through LGTS and got the Moira and Starcrossed endings. Once I got close to the end, I had thought about an LGTS spin-off game starring an 18 year old Apfel. Kid went through the ringer in LGTS, he'd be perfect for a spin off. #littlegoodytwoshoes #astralshift #apfellgts #lgts

Playable via a combination of 2 or more gamepads or gamepad/keyboard or even just a keyboard (though this is not recommended) StarCrossed is a pretty particular sort of bullet-hell/arcade shooter in which coordination is key to achieve victory. I want to stress this a bit: DO NOT BUY IF YOU DON'T HAVE NO ONE…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's so fun so far! I'm taking on the challenge of playing both Guardians. It's kicking my ass, but in a way that feels rewarding when I finally get through each part. The story is cute and the characters are a charming rag-tag magical girl crew I want to follow into battle. Music is also excellent!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →StarCrossed is just delightful! It's an extremely unique and well-designed couch co-op game that really feels like a breath of fresh air. It's fun, it's cute, and there are magical space girls... so what's not to love? Highly recommended, especially if, like me, you spend a lot of time browsing "best couch co-op games" lists with your partner and nothing you find seems to really scratch that itch for something that is just earnestly fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have had such a fun time playing this game. easy to learn and just SO CUTE. I'm still only starting the story but its been a fun magical ride so far
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just recently started playing it but I'm loving it so far, I want to give it more hours when I get some more free time! I'm really liking the characters, the art style, gameplay, and the music is also REALLY good. Congrats on launch!!

neutral · AI labelView post →Its a cute game but it is solely designed for 2 players so if you don't have anyone to play with you I do not recommend it. The one player option is VERY difficult to play and you must have a controller to play this game. Also if you have any keypads or something similar they must be unplugged every time you want to play (for the moment, I do hope they fix it in the future). Also when you die you hear a line from one of the characters, it is the same annoying line every time. I wish there was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't often review games but I thoroughly enjoyed my experience playing StarCrossed, I'd recommend giving it a try if you like bullet hell style games and a solid co-op experience or a means to improve your ambidexterity.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: I backed this game on Kickstarter, but I did also receive a free copy of the game to give away for a promotion. Magical girls - it's got 'em. This game is incredible cute and wholesome, and I adore all the character designs. The storyline is pretty simple, you're chosen Guardians sent to retrieve a love crystal, but the interactions between characters are what makes the story shine. It's got that feel-good story of friendship overcoming darkness, not to mention great queer and PoC…

neutral · AI labelView post →only buy this game if your going to play with others 7/10 as a single player game 4/10 single player is on the harder side of things they should really slap in an easy game mode needs healing at respawn checkpoints needs more heals or health when playing single players at least. could slap in an easy mode that gives people 5 or 6 health each so casuals could enjoy the game needs 4 player co-op needs 2 players controlling 2 people each Achievements are insane!!! most are huge grinds and almost…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. It has a lovely art style and soundtrack, as well as a nice little story, but it has a number of flaws holding it back. The Good: +Art design is great. The alien magical girls concept is wonderful and unique. +The soundtrack is very nice and fits the game well. +The different character dialogues all seem pretty well done and thought out. The Inbetween: +- It's short. My time represents about a run and a half of the game. You're supposed to run it with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game to play with a friend. Gameplay seems simple but if you don't take down the enemies quickly it gets harder and harder as more appear so you have to be quick and coordinate well. When you do get in the flow state though it feels great, but communication is still really important. The style of course is fantastic too, it really fits the gameplay. The illustrations are especially great. Definitely worth trying out if you have a friend to play with (and it works great on steam remote…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Long-time fan and KS backer here, super excited to dive into this once I'm home and try out the Steam local co-op mode! Challenging to play with just one controller, but doable. :D I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the amount of narrative content and interpersonal relationships of the casts. I can't wait to get to know all the characters better! If you like arcade multiplayer games, this is a really nice one to get into.

neutral · AI labelView post →Hiron and Caliope started as a game of Starcrossed, which is a jenga-based shipping pen and paper roleplaying game (art by Jess Fink, poly option available, highly recommend!) The game ended with Hiron giving up his knighthood to do the right thing and not turn Caliope the "evil sorceress" in.
positive · AI labelView post →The game lab here has like 6 copies of For the Queen, and one of Starcrossed. Both are really good teaching tools, and great for having students hack games about intimacy. I also meant to send you pictures of my students playing! (They consented).
neutral · AI labelView post →Players will optimise the fun out of anything. In the first week, people ran the first checkpoint Starcrossed over and over again. This was obviously a degenerate play pattern. It cannot have been the intended playpath. If you go back and look at streams of people playing the game at that time...

neutral · AI labelView post →I love the colors scheme, music, and character art. It was easy to learn mechanics, yet challenging enough to drive you slightly insane. I didn't like the Peanuts-like noises for dialogue, but other than that it's a keeper. Fun for remote play together.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like coop games, so I was eager to try StarCrossed. On the bright side, Starcrossed is a relaxed game, with chill atmosphere and gameplay. Moreover, the story mode will let you fail as much as you want, without losing progress, so you can play with anybody including little ones or people not familiar with video games. On a technical note, Remote Play Together works well (though whoever is away will have to account for input lag), so you can play with a friend/family member even if they are…
