What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 234 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (26,467 of 27,265 positive).
Players widely praise the story as a masterpiece of time-travel and emotional storytelling. [1][2][3] Many note the slow start but insist the payoff is worth it. [4][5][6] Some reviewers find the game superior to the anime adaptation. [1][2][7]

First of all, if you still haven’t played this game or experienced the story, do it. Blindly. Stop reading this review and play the actual game. And only after seeing the credits for the first time, look up the guide. It starts rather slowly, taking its time for the characters’ development and a bit of world-building. So, if after 2-3 chapters you find yourself wanting to quit playing - don’t. You will be rewarded. …

This is the single greatest story I have ever witnessed. First in form of the anime. After I saw the anime I was certain that nothing could top that. Then, I saw that there is a game. I was like, why not give it a shot? I know it's hard to believe but the game is even better than the anime. Much, much better. The game explores other ways that the story can conclude. It's way more detailed. The voice acting is …

To summarize everything here, whether you have or haven't watched the anime I would highly recommend the game. The game is worth the money even if it isn't on discount. However, I feel the need to list a couple reasons as to why you would withhold playing the game despite the absolute masterpiece of interwoven writing. Firstly, the UI and keybinds are clearly dated. The lack of flow charts, visual systems or …

Pinnacle of time travel media and media in general i thought the anime was good but it doesn't compare to the visual novel, everyone should play this in their lifetime, El Psy Kongroo

Critics, per Wikipedia
In 2009, the Famitsu Awards gave Steins;Gate visual novel an annual Game of Excellence award. In 2011, it was voted #6 in Famitsu's poll of "most tear-inducing games" of all time. Steins;Gate was nominated for the 2015 Golden Joystick Award in the "Best Handheld / Mobile Game" category. In 2017, Famitsu readers voted it the best adventure game of all time. Senji Ishii of Famitsu Xbox 360 praised the scenario for its detail and noted that events that were overlooked as insignificant later returned to affect events of the future. Due to the way the plot ties the many different events of the game together, Ishii believes it must have been a lot of work to write the scenarios. 4Gamer.net…
