The game is nice and has good ideas, I like the concept and the character art. Sadly all characters play the same until you make the game very hard. This is when you get effects that are unique to the different characters. I like the idea that higher difficulty unlocks more abilities, but the fist ability gets unlocked at very high difficulty and the second at nightmare difficulty. So unless you play like that all …

I recommend this game only if it has a really good discount. Otherwise, it's still an interesting experience, but a bit overpriced in my opinion. I think this game would benefit a lot from having a demo. Many players who love card Battler games would experience the core system mechanics and have enough to then commit to playing this one. This game became engaging once it "clicks". On my first run with the cat girl, …

I like the concept and mostly enjoy playing it...But... it's just not a very rewarding game. I do enjoy roguelikes and deck builders, even when challenging. And this one sorta pushes my limits on what I find fun, which says a lot to me about 'would I recommend this on a general level'. Because really, unless you are *deeply* into those sorts of mechanics, there's not going to be any real payoff. • The stat building has big oversights. While in theory you can use a defense build, most high…

I would give this a neutral review if that was a thing, because it was reasonably fun overall, but as other reviewers have all said, the balance is just atrocious. I won on the hardest difficulty with one character and don't really want to do it with all of them because it's not that interesting. I can *see* that at the higher difficulty the characters' inherent traits could potentially make it play differently, but in practice it would not, because the most effective way to play is to get…

Buy Ring of Pain, not this game. I tried giving it a chance, but it's just not good. The ideas are there, but they're all half-baked. All unlocks are tied to achievements, which may seem okay at first, but they can be more and more difficult to achieve later on - this means even if you have an incredible, op build going that gets you far, you may eventually die and get no currency to unlock more characters, emblems, or items. Indicators exist to show what will happen when you attack a…

This game presents some very fun ideas, but fails in its execution. Fun combat, unique system, fun retro stylization. It fails to make the user experience friendly. There are some translation issues. "Discard" is an action but the only other option for a card is to "recycle" it. Its the same function but it does not really define that for the user. There are knives in inventory and item cards called knives. They don't really delineate that difference. Damage can feel out of nowhere. There…

The demo was waaaay better than actual game. You now have to earn achievements to unlock artifacts. In the demo, you had to buy it with in game currency similar to other roguelike games. the game is very short and the final boss is cheese, forces you to play one style. early game and midgame fiights scale well and feel like you can die easily if you misplay, which i love. luck can be mitigated by moving monsters to open areas. But the devs have not updated the game as of March 4th. not worth…

Good premise, poor balance. My biggest grief is that the stat system is mostly useless. The bulk of enemies deal piercing damage, meaning your Defense stat is irrelevant. That is one of many bad design choices. It eventually becomes a game of getting lucky with good relics.

Stray path is built upon a solid game play idea that could have been great, but it lacks the fine tuning and the balance to make it a good game. The game’s basic structure is simple yet addictive and the inventory management is well developed and fun to tinker with. The problem is that on the later levels, Stray Path changes from an additive, predictable game to a multiplicative, combo experience. It goes from attack minus defense equals damage to damage all enemies, poison them but do not…

I really, really wish that Steam allowed you to give a neutral review. I didn't particularly like the game, but I also don't feel like it deserves a negative review. But, the fact that I don't want to play it means, I kind of have to give it a thumbs down if you are going to make me choose. It has some great ideas and I love the art. But, all the characters play the same. It doesn't matter which you pick, there is no difference. I've read from other reviews that the abilities that set…

UX sucks. It shows damage you will take after attacking sometimes. Other times, beyond logic known to me, it doesn't. Why it doesn't just show you the resulting stats after you attack all the time taking into account all effects is beyond me and it such bad UX. Completely sours the game for me. Felt like the game baited me into dying by being obtuse.

For a roguelike game, it went for design philosophies which go against the spirit of roguelikes. Runs lack uniqueness between them, and characters when you unlock them have nothing unique to them, aside from stats. Do you want characters to have their signature traits unlocked ? You gotta make the game harder. How do you make the game harder ? You have to first unlock the equippable run modifier, by doing ACHIEVEMENTS (not completing runs like any other roguelike), unlocking them in the…

Man.. What a bad progression system. Attaching shards to achievements that can take a long time to earn makes the whole gameplay loop feel tiresome and tedious incredibly quickly. The idea of running through 20-50 runs just to kill enough enemies so I can buy some emblems that might make a run more successful than the last - absolutely unappealing. Your stats pretty much entirely rely on attack. Defense is mostly useless as most enemies have piercing attacks that ignore your defense. When…

I'll give them points for trying, I almost like the game but 99% of the game is just "click click click click" to kill enemies that either barely or do not hurt you. Not much strategy is present in like 90% of fights and each run takes a long time to complete, this means your brain gets tired and bored half way through, leading to sloppy plays during the 1 turn that actually matters. most runs will just end suddenly when you're not expecting it and you just lose all of your hp all at once. I do…

Good idea, but poorly balanced. Attack is THE most important stat. If you one-shot the enemy, you don't take damage and don't usually have to deal with the unique effects of enemies. But more importantly, you don't take piercing damage. If you go heavy in defense, then piercing damage will go through it and kill you very easily. Most enemies have piercing damage. Characters passives are locked behind high difficulty levels. The things that make them unique to play. You get one character relic…

This is the first game that's hooked me since last August. I originally didn't buy it because it doesn't have controller support, but I got a mouse for my Steam Deck so I can try some new things. Stray Path didn't immediately appeal to me—perhaps because I'm not a cat person—but it went on sale yesterday so it felt like time to give it a go. I think the game's biggest strength is its simplicity. You click to attack and the enemy retaliates if it can. You can inflict status effects, but…

Near miss. It's fun, and there's really nothing *wrong* with the game. But the characters all pretty much play the same when you first unlock them. I've played a few runs but not yet not gotten far enough to unlock any variation in the characters, putting me in the position of whether I want to play the same flat character again or just stop. The reason I haven't gotten far is that the game sort of encourages a fast playstyle, but playing fast will eventually get you killed. It's made worse…

Stray Path is a nice Roguelike bringing some fresh air to the style with a dungeon clearing system quite interesting. Unfortunately it also suffers from some very unpleasant UX quirks, like for example, the fact that if you go a little fast at the beginning and hit "New Game" it won't warn you that you have one in progress, that you will lose before you even realized it. You can place cards on empty space like on Solitaire but again everybody can do that. The Good: - The artwork is genuinely nice and creates a great first impression. The Bad: - Depth: The gameplay feels flat, almost like an early alpha version. I do think the game has the potential to truly be amazing. But the balancing has a LONG way to go for that to be true. The baseline experience is very solid. The characters don't become too different until higher difficulties, but once you do, they are unique enough to feel interesting. The sound design is a bit lacking but it is what it is. Buggy and unbalanced; some items are completely redundant, leading to characters being built in a more or less similar manner. As for the bugs, incoming damage is often not correctly displayed, which sometimes leads to random deaths. I also encountered a bug where the game wouldn't let me attack certain enemy cards and I had to use AOE items just to get rid of them. That is to say, it's still pretty fun, but I wouldn't advise going for 100% completion due to the aforementioned bugs and some…

I absolutely love this game. I've never been a big roguelike fan until recently and while I like Slay the Spire, I find Stray Path way more fun. I could do infinite win streak in this game on highest difficulty possible. This game lacks enough impactful randomness that would force you to build differently every run. I had fun in this game anyway but it is to short for…

All you do is click. I thought this was a deck builder. Nope. Boring.
