Players praise the game's charming 90s aesthetic, humor, and characters. [1][2][3] Some find the pickpocket gameplay repetitive and wish for chapter replay. [4][5][6] A few criticize the Chinese title as sexist and the camera causing motion sickness. [7][8][9]

The Chinese localization of a game with rich female characters unbelievably used a sh!tload of misogynistic words. Excuse me?? The Chinese translation ruined this great game Non-Chinese studios should be more mindful when choosing translators, especially MALE ones

What a cute, quirky little trip! + Charming '90s aesthetic + Charming soundtrack + Fun dialogue and 'no fail', 'no time restrictive' gameplay which is really important for a chill time + Funky visuals that run an absolute dream on the Steamdeck/TV + Addictive collectables and achievements too. - Can't believe I missed ONE sticker. - No way to replay chapters to clean up achievements, you must restart your ENTIRE …

This game is colorful, witty and slightly corny, an amazing throwback to the 90s and all its nostalgia. The characters shine with personality, even the background ones, making it fun discovering old characters in new places. I appreciate the accessibility options available so it’s not necessary to hold buttons for the minigames and it never felt like I missed much because of it. Overall, I loved its charm and am …

If you grew up in the '90s, this game will hit you right in the feels (and possibly the wallet, because, you know, grifting). And if you didn’t? Well, it’s still a gnarly ride through a hilariously exaggerated version of the best decade ever.

The Big Con has really good writing and humor, but is slowed down by repetitive and boring gameplay. The jokes are some of the best I've seen in a while with a few really good jokes that are built on over the course of the game for fantastic punchlines that come out of the blue (the wish joke in the conclusion with Ricky hit me like a brick and I had to get up I was laughing so hard). There's a lot of really good …

91% of the 187 Steam reviewers we collected recommend The Big Con. The complaint that keeps coming up: repetitive pickpocket mini-game. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The Big Con received generally favorable reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic. GameSpot's Andrew King praised the "vibrant" art style and complemented the game's music. King felt that the pickpocketing minigame was "confusing" and thought that the story was "familiar". Kyle LeClair from Hardcore Gamer felt that the game's con jobs provided "clever" puzzles and "fun" gameplay. Miles Dompier from Windows Central called the game's story "touching" and "relatable", but felt that the gameplay loop became repetitive. Dompier recommended The Big Con for fans of adventure games. Eurogamer recommended The Big Con as an "endearing adventure". Miri Teixeira from NME praised the…

positive · AI labelView post →Decent colourful pickpocket adventure. It's a while ago that I played this game. I remember it was funny, but a bit too colourful for me. You have to talk to people, solve their problems, and identify who is not what he/she appears to be. Not my type of game, but surely many people will enjoy this one. 67/100 More reviews at [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/39546715/]Omnivore Gamer, games that are easy to control (for handicapped gamers).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the first chapter but had to to stop playing because the camera movement made me physically ill. The camera was fine for the over-world exploration but once I got into shops or diologe, the inconsistent movement of the camera made me queezy. It was a very charming game with a cool concept (and Im sad I couldn't play more) but I don't recommend it to anyone who gets motion sick.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just finished playing. i love the game. the art style and the storyline. everything is cute and perfect for me. Only one thing I feel not so good is that the game title is translated as '诈欺娇娃' in Simplified Chinese, which doesn't convey the original meaning of the game title accurately and is kind of sexist. Hope it can be re-translated.

neutral · AI labelView post →The concept is great and it's very low-key and no-consequences. And it's cheap so no complaints there. But the plot aside, it's so boring to play. Halfway through I just switched the mini-games to auto-complete because I was so tired of playing the same thing over and over to progress. There's also no option to auto-complete dialogue so there's a lot of hitting one button to get through long, long scenes of dialogue. If you love witticisms it's for you, but if not, avoid.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool art style and 90s references but man is it ever tedious and repetitive. There's only one gameplay loop and it got old real fast.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just rolled credits on The Big Con by @mightyyell.bsky.social, and what a freakin' gem of a game! positive · AI labelView post →The Big Con is such a fun little ride. It has this bright, playful energy from the start and just keeps it going the whole way through. The colours and visuals were honestly one of my favourite parts. Everything feels so vibrant and full of personality, and the stylised art gives it a really unique look. I loved just wandering around and finding things. There’s always something to interact with or mess around with, which makes the world feel really alive. It’s the kind of game where you end up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried to be a be thorough from the first run, but the gameplay gets quite repetitive quite soon. However, the moment you let got the gamer mind and enjoy the story and the adventure without wasting time on 100%ing it, you'll have much more fun.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off. I got this game at at 90% discount so I wasn't really expecting much of it. It cost me under 2 euros. As I said, I didn't expect much but now after I've played the game for 5 hours I'm done with it. All I can really say is i could probably have squeezed in 1,5-2 hours more gameplay if it wasn't for me being stupid mostly. Anyway. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes adventure type games and getting thisgame for under 2 euros is a steal. I had never even seen this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only one save but many bugs and cross-chapter achievements, play once, fun/ twice, fine/ many times, tedious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Straight out of a 90's Nickelodeon TV Show The Big Con was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting much when i picked it up one sale for 3.74. But it kinda did surprise me. It's a dialogue heavy game with pretty good writing and humor. The main game play of The Big Con is a point and click style adventure, i played with controller show it was more a analogue and click adventure. It's focus is on a girl name Alison Barlow or Ali for short who's mother's video rental store is about to be taken by…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming grifter kid goes on well-intended petty offence spree in 90s technicolor America Like rewatching old cartoons, the game feels comforting yet shallow. There is a lot to love here: The characters, the dialogues, the aesthetic, the music. If only there was more to do than lots of pickpocketing and the rare scripted con.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really simple adventure with simple mini-games. This is a mild amusement and distraction, don't expect much but for what it is the whimsical music and art is enough to keep it interesting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO CRIME* *in The Big Con. Ready to test your grifting skills? Try the game on iOS & Android for free! What a steal, eh?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally got round to playing The Big Con, having intended to for a while. God. What a good little adventure game. It is fundamentally a point and click adventure, but played with a controller. Fewer inventory puzzles, more stealing puzzles. Just fucking riddled with queerness and 90s vibes.
positive · AI labelView post →I enjoyed this game. The full game is only about 4 hours, and each level was pretty quick. The puzzles to solve problems weren't too complicated, although I did have to use a guide for about ~20% of the achievements; most of them revolved around the collectibles I missed in my first playthrough. I actually completely missed the Mari storyline because I didn't speak to her the second time in Libson, so I was pleasantly surprised in my second playthrough. I did notice some bugs. One that I…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game itself is decent, but the Chinese translation of the title is downright disgusting. "The Big Con" is a great name, but its Chinese translation, when directly translated, becomes "Fraudulent Darling" or "Deceptive Cutie." I just don’t get it—what’s so "charming" or "girlish" about this carefree young woman?

neutral · AI labelView post →I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue and vibe of this game from start to finish! While it didn't really matter which dialogue option you chose throughout the game, each interaction was still unique and rewarding. Between the peculiar cast characters and the protagonist's sass, the game is upbeat and humorous. The control scheme is a little odd, but easy to get the hang of after awhile. My only real con is that the pickpocket "mini-game" does get a little repetitive after awhile, but halfway…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cute & fun game I wish the game had an option for more than one save file, so it would be easier to go back to older saves to get achievements without completely restarting Paid: $1.58 Play time: 12 hours ~13 cents per hour of play time (Though I played a bit more than I wanted as I had to replay 3 times for missed achievements)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny and well designed. Controls take some getting used to. Excellent self aware jokes and soundtrack. As someone not alive in the 90's it was very entertaining to run around in an exadurated version of then. I wish it was longer and that there were more things to do. Also you get to play as a lesbian. 9/10

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is short and sweet and I really enjoyed my time with it and its 90s aesthetic and style. It really reminded me of the cartoons of that era, especially the unconventional and colorful character design. The pickpocket mechanics, conning quests and the notebook to keep track of it were addictive, the funny dialogue with the laugh tracks really made me feel like I was playing an episode of a 90s animated show. Sadly the bugs really put a damper on my enjoyment, I lost over 3 hours of…
