What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 191 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (1,346 of 1,922 positive).
Players appreciate the immersive atmosphere and solid acting, especially from Adam Brown. [1][2][3] Many find the gameplay overly linear with frustrating Quick Time Events and limited choices. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note the story is predictable but still engaging for a single playthrough. [7][8][9]

I will start this review frankly and unapologetic: Please do not waste your money and especially not your lifetime The Bunker. Seriously, there is nothing there. It is neither a “real” game nor an interactive movie. The best way I have to describe it is that it is a failed art-student-film in which you sometimes have to press a mouse key, so it goes on. Technically there are things that imitate “QuickTime” events …

I have mixed feelings about this one, but I have to classify it as "would not recommend" because I think the audience that will enjoy it is considerably smaller than the audience that will not. Let's start with what's good about the game: the production values are quite solid. It's shot in a real location (an actual decommissioned nuclear bunker) and its cast is populated with professional actors. It legitimately …

MY RATING: ✔ ✔ ✔ ✔ ✔ ✔ ✔ ✔ ✘ ✘ 8 / 10 A great FMV Game with Adam Brown, Sarah Greene, Grahame Fox, and St. John Blake. After the nuclear war or: the boring and lonely life in a nuclear bunker The Bunker is all about John, the last survivor living in a British nuclear bunker and going about his daily routine until the system check forces him to go deeper and fix the malfunctions. Away from the omnipresent radioactive …

Its hard to knock what is otherwise a good story and plot for a film (no spoilers) but with some good tension and twists. The acting and cinematography isn't terrible. But what lets it down is that it is just that, a film. The linear game play is really one dimensional. Many interactions are limited to button bashing. Adsing to this is the timing is sometimes off, not responsive and the cursor and hints are often …

tl;dr very creative blend between a narrative FMV experience and a classic point & click adventure; acquired taste but in the end it has grown on me Overview John is the last remnant from a group of people who survived a nuclear incident inside a Bunker. If he sticks to his routine, everything will be fine. But how long will the Bunker allow the routine to go smoothly and what happened to the rest of its …

65% of the 191 Steam reviewers we collected recommend The Bunker. The complaint that keeps coming up: gameplay is very linear with few meaningful choices. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The Bunker received mixed reviews following the launch. Review aggregator Metacritic shows an average score of 68 out of 100 for the PlayStation 4 version, and 66 out of 100 for the Xbox One version. Praise was particularly directed at the game's narrative, and the actors' performance. However, the game's lack of interactivity was often criticised. GamesRadar's David Roberts lauded the game's sound design and music, remarking that "the John Carpenter-ian strains of its synths and the quality foley work help sell some of its more distressing moments... Playing in the dark with my headphones in, this scene got under my skin in a way few games have" Anthony John Agnello visited the game for…

neutral · AI labelView post →I can understand both the negative and positive reviews. Overall, I rate it as positive. However, only just, and not without some doubts. This is also thanks to the low price I paid (FMV Horror Bundle in the Steam Winter Sale). The gameplay is worse than other FMV games I've played so far. It's super linear and there aren't any big decisions that influence the plot, as in similar games. The overall plot, setting, sound, and actors are really not bad. However, a lot of potential was wasted,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This wasn’t fun at all. The Bunker is not your typical interactive movie with decision making. Instead, it offers static screens to interact with to advance the story that is presented in FMVs. The problem is, there are no meaningful puzzles or interesting interactions with the surroundings. The “game” is super linear and there is only one real decision towards the end that pretty much chooses between two endings. I’d like to say that this would have been a better movie, but I don’t actually…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite disappointing. First of all let's talk about the gameplay mechanics. This is not a choices matter kind of game. It's a specific story told one way, with just a choice to make at the very end. The game relies on QTE and timed button mashing events as well as regular point and click. The game's cursor is incredibly laggy and the QTE is not pressing X or A but instead is clicking a square centimeter circle somewhere on your screen. With the laggy cursor, this is actually quite hard at times.…

neutral · AI labelView post →This new version of the review is softer, but still negative. I would have given the game a neutral rating, but there's no such rating on Steam. So – the game has a good atmosphere, Adam Brown's performance is excellent, and the script, while not without its flaws, is quite interesting. What else does a great FMV game need? negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Bunker is a haunting, live-action psychological thriller developed by Splendy Interactive and Wales Interactive that blurs the line between cinema and video game in a way few titles have dared to attempt. It tells the story of John, the last surviving inhabitant of an underground nuclear shelter in post-apocalyptic Britain, a man who has never known life outside the concrete walls that have both protected and imprisoned him. Born in the bunker after a nuclear catastrophe wiped out the world…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's broken/unplayable on the Steam Deck. When you open the medicine cabinet at the beginning it just plays broken video codec screen. None of the different versions of Proton solve this. As for the game itself, I quit during the 4th chapter (out of 12), as it was a very linear affair that just has you do the most boring gameplay-wise tasks. It's generally just: Enter a room, you can click on 3 places. 2 will give some random exposition and the last one will move you to the next room". I just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright story but extremely predictable. The main actor does a good job, but the gameplay is not especially engaging and the design is outright terrible in some cases. It's mostly a extremely linear path with some collectables for some extra lore, but it also have some of the worst game design sins out there in a game like this. You really have no idea when you move to the next chapter making some collectables lost, for the most part you need to collect them all in one playthrough and in one…

I was bored for most of it and by Chapter 12 and the Quick Time Event I decided to just uninstall it and watch the ending on YouTube - I didn't miss anything by doing that.
