What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 42 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (46 of 100 positive).
Players praise the core gameplay and concept but criticize bugs and UI issues. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note the game is fun but feels unfinished or broken. [4][5][6] The pause mechanic and lack of quality-of-life features are common complaints. [7][8][9]

I think this is well worth the 10 bucks. The trailer sure isn't doing this game many favors, being it just leaves a WTF am I looking at impression. Basically it's a 2D type resource management game....in which you flip over an area, then can build certain resources on that tile (gold, food etc), put a minion on it to do it's job, then upgrade each and progress to new technologies while trying to get ahead of an …

I would love to give a "maybe" but I cannot. The price range is what ultimately turns this into a "yes". The game is worth 10 bucks, but it has many flaws. The core gameplay is okay, fun even. Plays not unlike an euro board game. You got your workers, and you place them in resource extractors to produce. Everything has an upkeep, and you have to balance all of that each turn. The UI/UX is TERRIBLE. The game needs to …

Was enjoying the game for a couple of days and almost recommended it to my friends, until I reached the Brass Leviathan. At that point, the issues went beyond your typical indie game jank and I could no longer ignore them. Pause is all wonky. A dev in a Steam discussion thread said that this is intentional and the game is not a "real-time with pause" game like "Against the Storm" or “Cultist Simulator”. However, the …

Part of me really wants to recommend this so consider it more of a mixed review than a straight downvote. The timed econ management is right up my alley and the random tile reveals and building unlocks combined with the challenges and god variety make each run feel unique. When it's working as it's supposed to I greatly enjoy it. The issue is that it has quite a few bugs. Some runs the cycle timer stops working …

this game is in desperate need of love and attention from the people who made it. It's a really interesting concept, and I really like it, but it's really very broken. You can play it for a long time and have a good go of it-- that's what I did-- but you have to be willing to put up with a game that gets worse the farther you go into it. The Maw is an obvious jump in difficulty, requiring some map generation luck. …

Basically it's a 2D type resource management game....in which you flip over an area, then can build certain resources on that tile (gold, food etc), put a minion on it to do it's job, then upgrade each and progress to new technologies while trying to get ahead of an upkeep clock. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is good but there are some bugs that can instantly end your run, such as early on you cannot click a tile, which will lock you out from an entire row and ruin your run. There are some others, like not being unable to unpause if you click it simultaneously with certain events. That being said, I did do all my playthrough in one sitting and I had fun, but the bugs were really annoying. As it stands, the game is good but the bugs need to be fixed before it would be worth a purchase.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I put off playing this game for a bit of time. I saw the negative reviews and hesitated diving in. The reviews are for the most part on point. There is an amazingly good idea here that is weighed down heavily by bad UI and missing QOL features. Given there has been zero updates or patches since launch to address these problems, I cannot in good faith recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is brutal in almost every way, but it's also satisfying as hell in equal measure. Just be prepared for a punishing challenge 🫡 Check out @nosmallgames.bsky.social for my full review of The Deadly Path from Owlskip Enterprises & @fireshinegames.bsky.social nosmallgames.com/2025/03/the-...
positive · AI labelView post →I really hate having to leave a negative review for this game because conceptually, I think it's a great little game. Art is nice, the lore is interesting, the idea is fun. But the UI is so janky it's almost unplayable. Pausing the game can cause interface issues that will force you to abandon a run because things will become unclickable. Even without the pause bugs, the pause mechanic is poorly conceived and don't work fully in the "real time strategy" sense. You also can't zoom out far enough…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →in this day and age, i rarely negative review, but this one should be considered a open beta, and the devs should get feedback to make the final finish.. it's missing too much QoL stuff and gets to be a pain if u wanna play fast, no hotkeys does not help this premise and i hope the devs make some nice updates but i doubt it, the moment i wrote something in discord it was more of a funny reply and more made fun of then taken serious
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just not good enough for me. It's an interesting game and fairly priced, but I couldn't see myself returning. I was excited when I saw all the different characters to unlock and play, but once I realized these are more of a difficulty slider, I got pretty discouraged. The game is a bit wonky. For example, if you pause the game while there is text on the screen from something like the Killing Moon event, it just stays there. So you have to unpause and wait for the text to go away and pause…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave this a shot in spite of mixed reviews. Setting aside the pause function being wonky and unreliable, and the very, very short music loop, I found that I wasn't having fun with the game. There are no significant choices to make or strategies to employ. Do I have enough bones? No?--> Make Bone Farm. Yes?--> Do I have enough Meat? No-->Make Meat Farm Yes?--> Do I have enough gold? No-->Make Gold Farm. You just follow this mindless flow chart while the game is going "boots and cats and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun but flawed game. I am a big fan of Cultist Simulator, and this game scratches a very similar itch while distinguishing itself in appealing ways, such as having many different characters and difficulty levels to give a lot of variety, as well as having very short runs (a successful run lasts about half an hour). Based on the demo I was hooked, and while the final game is a little worse for wear than the demo, I definitely don't regret my purchase. Many bugs and UI issues. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd been keeping an eye on this one for a while, it looked interesting but given the bad reviews I thought I'd wait until a patch was released before buying,.. 6 months later there's still no patch but it was out there at 60% off so I thought I'd give it a go. It's a good game but with some significant flaws - the pause thing is annoying - doing just about everything unpauses but you need to continually pause to work out what to do next, especially when it gets busy towards the end of a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A balance pass may save it but until then you are too much at the mercy of the RNG, and I say this as someone who likes randomness in games. It's an exercise in frustration
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the gameplay. There are some questionable design choices around the pause mechanic, but otherwise the gameplay is stellar. I am very much enjoying the game and the gameplay. Unfortunately the game has quite a few bugs that are less enjoyable. Some can be game ending. Like reinstall game ending. I encountered one, but round 2 of install has been better. Because of the questionable design choice to not have saves during a run, when the game crashed near the end of a difficult run (and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice idea, not very well implemented
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay itself is exactly my jam. The UI frequently gets confused as to what state it should be in. There are so many cases where clicks just don't register. Maybe there's a layer on the top third of the screen that's preventing one from clicking the game board? The frequent missed clicks are the only reason I'm marking this as "recommended" and not "stop what you're doing and buy this game" There were a also bunch of actions that I was surprised I could not take while the game was…

It then cranks the whole thing up a few notches. It is the first game I've played by Owlskip Enterprises and if all their future releases are this much fun, it certainly won't be the last. Deadly Path sees you as the Custodian whose task it is to build out a dungeon…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Generally, I want my horror from a game to come from the game's content, not the suspense of whether or not the game will run properly. Bugged timers, variables not properly resetting, cards frozen in place--these are only some of the wonderful bugs you'll encounter in this nightmare. It's sad, because truly at it's core it's a fantastic game (my nearly 30 hours a testament to my willingness to be patient and explore what it has to offer). However, I've finally had to admit to myself…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all: The music slaps! The Deadly Path is...well, mainly it is a ressource management game. Outward from the throne, you unearth tiles which have different kinds of (random) locations below them. These in turn let you build certain structures on them, of which most are directly used to mine certain ressources. Mining them takes time and is also limited to the amount of (differently abled) workers you have available and of course which ressources alreay mined. A timer runs down for a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy mess with mediocre gameplay and confused writing underneath. It does have a lovely style and great tunes, but those can't carry the rest. Definitely not worth it, despite how much I wanted it to be otherwise. Some more details: Moment to moment gameplay is severely undercooked with bad UI/UX getting in the way constantly. Given that you can't do anything while the game is paused, you are forced to hurriedly micro manage 100 different things at once, all of which take more clicks than…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the first couple of rulers. They were fun. Then they become harder with nothing to balance that and you just need to find that one building to win and if you don't - you're screwed, start again. Game is unbalanced and was abandoned almost instantly after the release. Such a pity, because the concept was very promising
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Much has been said about the UI of this game, and it's all true. You need to personally monitor up to 30 separate timed tasks and if any of them fail the game is over. You are given zero audio or visual cues when these things are about to fail. As the game progresses the map grows and grows and you are given more and more timed tasks to keep track of. To succeed at this game you need 5 monitors, 10 mice and 30 sets of eyes, and the skill to operate all of them at once, since you cannot slow…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyable resource management game! The timing systems for population growth and feeding give it a fast pace that you don't normally see in this genre. It lets the player iterate a lot of games in a relatively quick pace which is great in the roguelike format. Some issues I've run into are that I felt the minion cards can be a bit too big relative to the rest of the play area. A big part of the game is seeing what nodes are available and having a large section blocked doesn't help.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big disappointment, expected a deckbuilder. Still buggy as well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun core loop, but half my runs end in game-breaking bugs. It's also got interface issues, balance issues, and lots of annoying minor bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(This is a mostly-negative review, but it is still a "thumbs-up" because every game is a miracle for existing. These devs don't deserve un-recommendation, because they've brought good ideas to the table. And you really might actually like it in ways I couldn't.) Two things about this game got me walking away from it: 1) It's a little too hard to find the rarer tiles that are needed to advance ages and complete scenarios. For all ~3 of the runs I played, I had done the work to manage my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is broken to the point of not running on my machine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The great trailer made me want to play this game. I had to stop playing when I realized output per cycle is hidden in a tooltip. I can't play a game where the key information about whether the game ends or continues is hidden behind a mouse hover.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just can't earnestly recommend this game. It seems fun at its core but it is right on the border of unplayable. Pause is inconsistent as others have mentioned. I have a moderate PC (i5 7700k + 2070 super + 32GB Ram) and when I start to get into the second phase this game CHUGS. Its probably CPU throttling to some degree, but I have to rely on pause to even be able to reliably play. Which will then randomly unpause, which is especially bad when you are in a level up menu. I can't comment…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If the cheesy horror theme and rogue-like strategy appeal, then this is well worth adding to your wishlist to keep an eye on. However the game still has some visual and mechanical bugs making the version at release feel like early access, so maybe hold out on buying until a couple of patches fix things.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is very unique game. Granted, I have not played much yet but from what I have, it is a lot of fun. It can get overwhelming, but I suppose you get used to what is going on the screen the more you play. Definitely worth the price!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoying this game, the music is fantastic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far I'm enjoying this quite a bit. It requires a lot of reading and learning what does what, but it's not too hard to grasp fairly quickly. All the bg music and sounds are nice, not annoying. There is a little jank when it comes to clicking and dragging stuff but not so bad that it leaves you with a bad experience. From what I've seen there is a lot of content to be unlocked and I could see myself sinking hours into this. If you enjoy strategic, management, building/upgrading style games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its pretty fun and can be a little difficult at time, only issue is the game is pretty buggy, even now i cant get it to start up but when i did get to play it was great!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun ressource management game. Really enjoying the humour of the game so far, but it can get a bit stressful at times when dozens of tiles are depleted at the same time.
