What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised by puzzle fans but criticized for clunky controls and pixel hunting.
Fans of The Room series often find this game scratches a similar itch, with many praising its elaborate contraptions and logical puzzles. However, a significant number of players feel it is an inferior clone, citing clunky controls and frustrating pixel hunting as major drawbacks. [2][3][4][14]
The game's atmosphere and puzzle variety receive praise, but many reviewers find the puzzles tedious or illogical, and the movement system slow and imprecise. Some players also note that the story is largely irrelevant. [1][6][15][30][36]

Critics, per Wikipedia
Merlina McGovern of Adventure Gamers rated the game 3.5 out of 5 and wrote that "although The House of Da Vinci is slightly marred by persnickety mechanics and the occasionally frustrating puzzle, exploring the mind of a genius by reverse engineering his inventions will pull you into a gorgeous Renaissance world and keep you challenged throughout." AppUnwrapper wrote in their review, "If you're a fan of The Room series by Fireproof Games and can't wait for the fourth one to release, Blue Brain Games' The House of Da Vinci is the closest thing you can get to the real thing." Reviewing the iOS version, Emily Sowden of Pocket Gamer said "The House of Da Vinci has two major areas to focus on.…

It would be a perfectly adequate game if I didn't care about those, but I do. It might be better on a touchscreen? Not redownloading it to find out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sadly, I cant recommend this game. While some puzzles were genuinely clever and enjoyable, everything else was either incredibly simple or frustratingly annoying. Additionally, way too much of the game was just me struggling to find what I can even interact with.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game all the way through with hopes and they have been dashed. I have never been more frustrated with a puzzle game in my life. It can't decide if it is an escape room game or a puzzle box style game and there is never a clear through line for what you need to start with or go to next. Even with hints until you get the last one none really give you enough information to solve on your own. Overall the puzzles just are basic and not fun or easy but they road block you or put the…

neutral · AI labelView post →You are probably here to check whether this game is like "The Room". The answer is: "somewhat like The Room". Many mechanics are similar. It is inferior to "The Room" though. My biggest criticism is this: The puzzles do not connect very well. You basically need to be clicking/hovering around all kinds of items just to see whether your cursor change or something happens. Some of them geniunely have no hints either and just clicking around edges of some picture just in case is quite boring. You…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s a bit like The Room, with a cool art style and some atmospheric background music. The puzzles, though, can feel like a chore. Nothing new. Same old puzzles hidden behind clunky mechanics.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR A good-looking escape-room game built around elaborate contraptions, but lacking puzzle depth or narrative payoff. [12/20⭐, 6h🏅, 1/5💡] Context An escape-room game inspired by Da Vinci’s contraptions. I’m still waiting for a game of this kind that offers more than attractive animations and elaborate mechanisms, and this is no exception: the puzzles are basic and the plot largely irrelevant. Writing Your master, Da Vinci, has disappeared while being pursued by mysterious enemies, and you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not so much hard as it is just plain tedious. Shortly after the start levels, most of the time you're just left to try bunch of random combinations without any kinds of hints on what the solution might be. This means most of the time after you have solved a non logical puzzle, you're greeted with a new non-logical puzzle right after it. So this is just rinse and repeating trying random combinations in various different puzzles and that is not very pleasant after awhile. Good example…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really tried to give this game a go but I just couldn't keep playing. I found that majority of the puzzles didn't have logical solutions and most of them weren't even puzzles, they were either finding where to use an object you just picked up or rotating something. The puzzles themselves are more trial and error based rather than something with reasoning, meaning that reaching a solution doesn't feel satisfying because I kept getting annoyed when it was solved, realising that it was another…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls might feel a bit clunky, but still, solid game, really recommend to the room series fans. Respect to the developers for creating such logical puzzles that were pretty hard to solve to be honest!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like the game, but the controls are so wonky thats makes it frustrating. If you loved The Room series, then you will not like this, as it is a huge step back for that experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recently finished the House of Da Vinci puzzle game trilogy by Blue Brain Games. I was really impressed with how well many of Da Vinci's actual machines and inventions were implemented in the puzzles. So I want to talk about some of my favorite historical devices referenced in the three games:
positive · AI labelView post →If you are looking for an experience similar to The Room, this is not your best bet. The graphics are nice and the concept is interesting but the puzzles are INCREDIBLY tedious and the controls are not great. The game features a lot of dragging tools and items with the mouse and they don't respond very well. Even though there is a hint system, I don't enjoy having to basically waste time for a hint any time I want to progress (if that hint is even helpful in any regard) because some of this…

neutral · AI labelView post →3/5 - Average It was okay for this type of game but to be honest I don't really enjoy the random clicking and dragging to find interactive objects. It wasn't giving me the dopamine hit of The Room either. A lot of the controls were cluncky and some rooms were poorly lit. Get it on deep discount if you must.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too much pixel hunting. The game shows an interaction cursor over things you can manipulate but to manipulate you have to move to the right area and get close enough but there's no indicator that shows when you can do that. You have to double click to move/zoom and given there's no indicator when you can do that, this means you'll just be double clicking around in a lot of places and that's not fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In terms of gameplay this is a direct (but inferior) clone of the successful "The Room" series by Fireproof games (who seem to only make VR stuff now). Play those first, and then consider this only if you're desperate for more. House of Da Vinci has plenty of competent, mostly fair puzzles in the form of fascinating devices and architecture, just like The Room, but the failure to go the last mile with polish and quality control puts this in a decidedly less satisfying tier. It was often a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a big fan of "The room" series and I was hoping to find something similar. Very disappointing! The controls are really bad, the animation to move from a spot to another is sooooo slow ! When you are trying to figure out where to go when you're stuck, you have to wait between each spots, it's so frustrating! And above all, the puzzles are not really fun or engaging...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hour 1-2: Alright, haven't played a puzzle in a hot minute, let's go! Hour 2-3: Oh come on, I did click on that before but missed it by a pixel? Hour 3-4: These puzzles don't make sense, I either solve them by luck or because they're just simple. Hour 4 on: These mechanics suck. The game is dark and it's very nonsensical in some of the puzzles and ways it decides to proceed. I hate it. Wish I had quit earlier. Love Myst, the Room and other puzzle games but this was just frustrating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →eh, for 2 bucks it's fun enough but felt like more of a big game of find the thing you haven't clicked on yet vs a true puzzle game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game... Quern was great and reminded me of Myst and Ryven, but Davinci, It's puzzles are far too easy and the mechanics are clunky, you spend most of your time trying to navigate the annoying camera views to see if you can find a scratch on a box or a clue under a table. the rooms ar far from fluid to navigate, but if they where then the puzzles would be done in a few minutes.

negative · AI labelView post →Worst game ever. Random and arbitrary rules, terribly imprecise click boxes, poor lighting as a mechanic to hide things, incredibly long cooldowns after moving before you can click anything - basically they just use every cheap trick in the book to make a 5 min puzzle take 20 mins when the puzzles aren't even hard. But I got it for like $3 on sale so if you're a cheap masochist with too much time to kill then this game is for you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm mixed. I got this at 80% off and it's not bad, but it is a little frustrating and a little nonsensical. I think I tend to focus too much on negatives in my reviews, so some positives to start off: The setting is cool, it looks nice, sound design is good, and there are a lot of neat machines. It's got that "escape room" feel to it. The puzzles are decent and varied. Some downsides though: sometimes you need to spot (and click on) something quite small in order to progress. The areas you're…

neutral · AI labelView post →The first few chapters were nice enough, but as the game progressed, the rooms become larger, puzzles less cohesive and in some cases they just feel random or unsolvable. If you can't find where to use an item in your inventory, don't worry... you'll get hints: "*item* from my inventory definitely fits somewhere", followed by "I think I saw a likely place for the *item* somewhere around here". Thats just annoying commentary, not a hint. -_- Some puzzles get repeated several times in a row…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the more frustrating point and click puzzle games. The puzzles are neat, but my annoyance at not understanding them was greatly exacerbated by how finicky the click and drag sections were - one of the final puzzles has you spinning dials to change symbols and numbers, and oh boy did they not want to spin! Really added insult to injury. The visuals are beautiful, but you really get tired of seeing them when every click has a slow movement animation towards the thing you absolutely were…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start with the positives. It was visually nice, the type that I expect from higher end puzzle games. It definitely captured my attention to solve the puzzles which is great. I unfortunately became very frustrated with this game. Don't get me wrong, I like a challenge from time to time. but it wasn't the puzzles that frustrated me, but it was the game mechanics and hints that hit a nerve. I would get stuck until eventually a hint would populate, but the hints were either too simple in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Briefly, this game would be pretty great if it weren't for the nuisances of the node-based movement and hand-turny mechanism. I completely missed one interactive thing because I didn't realize I had to zoom in closer even though I could plainly see it. That might happen to you a lot. Otherwise, the atmosphere is good, the puzzles don't get recycled much, and the story isn't complete trash. Better than Boxes, though maybe not better than The Room.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing puzzle game. It reminds me of the room games except the movement is a bit worse but other than that I really enjoyed this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Most of the puzzles were elementry, The puzzles are mostly the same idea behind them. You try to fix one thing but that alters another. The main issue is in the early chapters you would solve a puzzle and it would open something on the other side of the room without a clear indictation that it would happen. I didn't hear or see anything for most of them, It expects you to go back and forth between rooms which is time consuming because it has to do an animation everytime you go to the other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very frustrating and irritating, I know how to solve the puzzle but the game doesn't allow for a solution unless it's pin point accuracy, the controls are also terrible, tried adjusting the sensitivity in the options but it does nothing, clicking on an object is delayed, moving objects around is sluggish and the puzzles are just plain boring, I got it in the sale so I won't be refunding it but I also won't be playing it to completion.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The glove with the time piece as well as the hidden puzzles are handicap and ultimately hold back the games puzzle aspects. the puzzle could still work without them both. Its a cheap way to add another layer rather than improve the puzzles ever so slightly. in what seems like an attempt to make them seem "harder"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stupid point at the right spot and click
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you actually like puzzle games, I just can't recommend it. I just played for about 2 hours, and by my count I encountered three actual puzzles, meaning problems that require actual thinking to solve, one of which was just towers of Hanoi. I stopped my session at the first puzzle that was actually in any way difficult, the others were all super easy. Probably five minutes of my two hour session were spent on what I would call actual puzzle solving, the rest is just a chain of "do the obvious…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sights & Sounds Needs more cornetto For a game taking place during the Renaissance like The House of Da Vinci, setting is a really important consideration. Fortunately, the classical columns, semicircular arches, and rustic stonework of the Florentine architecture set a stage with an adequate sense of time, place, and scale for your puzzle solving The numerous puzzle you'll encounter are full of visual interest as well. The bejeweled/engraved/gilded "puzzle boxes" central to the gameplay…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →being a fan of the room games, i was hoping to find similar games. well. it looks nice, but the puzzles often dont make a lot of sense, the controls are horrendous to say the least, and to be honest its just not a lot of fun. i am sure that there a lot of people that will like it, but i just could not be bothered anymore after one hour.

neutral · AI labelView post →Navigation is horrible and forces horribly slow animations on you. You're not allowed to move freely or look around freely, and have to guess points to click to navigate to, with awkward angles. And if you don't guess right, you can expect a horribly slow animation to move you to where you didn't want to go, and now you've got to stuggle to get back. There's no logical connection behind puzzles, and they're physically impossible and rely on magic. The story makes no sense and ends abruptly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like the game but the click and drag mechanics have defeated my will to play. I got as far as the War machine area, but the 4 winches that have to rotate shield symbols are hurting my arm dragging the mouse controls. I see how to manipulate the puzzle but the actual physical dragging the wheels up and down have made me give up. I HATE click and drag mechanics in puzzle games. HATE. I love point and CLICK games. Just let me click on the machine and let it rotate.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR, definitely worth it on sale. it's no more frustrating than any other puzzle game. it's definitely a "the room"-like, but it's an extremely decent one (if not a good one lol). if you liked the room/puzzle games in general, you'll probably like this one. the other reviews stating that it's hard to tell what to do next are accurate in that sometimes it'll take a minute to figure that out, but i only ever got badly stuck once, and it was because of a bug that caused an inventory item to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little game picked up for the same price as a bag of crisp. Took around 5 hours to complete and the puzzles were quite satisfying. Others have stated that there are no clues to solve certain puzzles, but there is, you need to look around using the Occuli (2 different versions, try both) in order to find the clues you are looking for. Definitely recommended if you like puzzles that engage and you like to think about games instead of just running around shooting things.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started out great, my daughter and I had a fun time doing it together. By the time it going to something with zillions of dials and complicated time things you had to match it just became a chore. We found ourselves playing other games instead, and eventually agreed to just delete it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a Room like game. There are only so much game of this genre and so I recommend it. However The House of Da Vinci has some BIG flaw - pixel hunting. This really irritated me. Some hidden buttons, symbols and so on in dark corners, but dont panic. There is hint option in gameplay menu (i didn't use it) that would help if you stuck. In total the game is good.

However, this game is unplayable for me (roughly 2 minutes) - a person with a disability. People like me and my partner rely on games as a break from the inaccessibility we see everywhere.
