What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 41 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (33 of 64 positive).
Players praise the game itself as a classic fighting game with unique mechanics and style. [1][2][3] Many note the port has improved with patches but still has issues like paid DLC characters. [4][5][6] Some reviewers criticize the port as barebones and overpriced, recommending a sale purchase. [7][8][9]

Pros: + Training Mode + Has Rollback Cons: -No Lobby system, you have to manually invite your friends through Steam or play a quick match -No rematch system, you get booted to the main menu after the match -Hazama, Greed, and Beatrice are DLC characters that are 4 USD each, despite being available in the Arcade port from about 17 years ago -The game is 30 USD. You're paying for a $40 game if you include the …

EDIT - Refunded and went to fightcade instead. It shouldn't have been released in this state. Im judging this shoddy port more than I am the game itself though because it's been around for over a decade and still rocks. But yh, the port on the other hand has problems. Sure it FUNCTIONS most of the time, but that's not enough when you're charging $30 for an old fighting game with such a niche following. Especially …

The game is a lot better now that most if not all of its launch issues have been fixed. You can turn off widescreen and enable 4:3 mode with sidebars to play the game as you're supposed to, matches against other players no longer kick you back to the title screen and let you rematch, and lobbies have been added. As for changes to balance, this port is actually based off the NESiCAxLive rerelease of the game, which …

The game is good but yeah it should not have been this pricy and the DLC should have been free. Also for those who are wondering why some combos don't work, is because this is based on the 2011 acrade re release which had balance changes as well as the wide screen, so making the game 4:3 wont be an option. For the people who give this game a negative review, yeah you have every right to be upset and I'm not going to …

One of the best fighting games ever made ported in the worst way possible. I'm not sure why no more people are talking about this game. It's a beautiful masterpiece. This specific port is bare bones, and not a lot of people play online. I will wait until it would get more content, but don't sleep on this one.
Summarised from 34 of the 60 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
Players who liked The Rumble Fish 2 talk about great fighting game with unique mechanics and art style; those who didn't talk about three unlockable characters are paid DLC. Which matters more to you?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite it initial release, 3goo have been doing this game justice by releasing tons of QoL fixes to the game. While its still annoying that all 3 boss character that was unlockable in the original arcade version and are fully playable in the nesicaxlive version of the game are STILL paid dlcs; the game overall quality is still a lot better as of now. Things about reviews, most folks don't go back to update them when something changes. Despite my steam hours I have put a lot of time in this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Refunded this game so fast. -No real matchmaking -No recording in training mode -Barebones in terms of modes and online functionality -Charging for DLC for a 2005 arcade gamme The game itself is amazing, but this port is not great.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself isn't bad, but this port isn't doing justice for this game in the current state that it is in. The only major reason to get this right now is if you wanted a dedicated training mode where you can grind labbing uninterrupted due to Flycast/Fightcade limitations where you can't properly lab this game. Even then though, there's no reset position button and no guard after 1st hit function that works properly in training mode. The game works when you boot it up, but unless you're…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More people should play this. They have addressed a lot of the initial criticisms in patches.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Rumble Fish 2 is a very neat fighting game. Since the first release on Atomiswave, the NESiCAxLive version had two updates that genuinely improved the game. There's definitely more that could still be improved, but the game has a cool cast and mechanics. This port of the NESiCA version is sorely incomplete and flawed. Based on my testing, it seems like this port is actually just of the NESiCA 1.0 version and not the more updated 1.1 version. In addition, the game has a huge change from its…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game itself is still awesome but this port is way too barebones for the price, no online lobbys and not even a rematch option. there are no real video options and the fact that 3 of the base game roster are now sold as dlc for like 5 bones each is a load of ballacks. wait for a heavy discount if your still wanting it officially what a shady business practice. also it says no keyboard support but you can use a keyboard? at least in 2 p versus
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing. The fighting is fast and fluid, and the system mechanics are an absolute joy to mess around and play with. It creates a unique, expressive game that makes me want to play for hours. This port however, has terrible issues. Even if it's a port of a game from 2005, I've seen other ports of fighting games done way better. This game has Rollback netcode, and that's great. Everything else about the online is terrible. You cannot see the opponent's ping. You cannot deny…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, terrible port. It's a real shame, too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cult classic fighting game that was originally released during the "Dark Ages" of fighting games by the OG SNK Team now under "Dimps" right before SF4 revived the FGC which you could argue at the time was on life support. This port when it released here on Steam was unfortunately completely botched from the pricing including the DLC monetization, bare bones touch ups for PC play, and things like the stages not having arcade perfect spacing in 16:9 so certain combos wouldn't work as they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The RUMBLE FISH 2 is a great come back but with a some setbacks. Pros 1. Arcade Mode 2. Local PvP 3. Online PvP with (Roll Back) 3. Sound track still hold up 4. Controls are smooth Cons 1. (DLC) characters roster that should be in base roster 2. No story mode Overall: The Rumble Fish 2 is a classic that has return after along absence from the fighting scene and it still hold up with the latest version having quantity of life updates. Tho It unfortunate to see that the story mode wasn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Port Actually works properly now that being said I still cant recommend this version of the game because they made the unlockable characters dlc
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome guys! Just that the developers didn't make it accessible to keyboard users. From what I seen so far you HAVE to use arrow keys on keyboard and that just sucks. I waited a good while for this port to drop and this just was a slap in the face, I might refund but idk. If you use keyboard be warned.

Been a huge advocate for it since I first experienced it in 06 back home in NYC.
positive · AI labelView post →Can't even change the screen resolution. Multiplayer just doesn't work. Game looks terrible for a port.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After a few updates, it's actually pretty solid. Having the unlockable characters being paid for is pretty wack though.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is great, fun, fairly unique and worth trying if you're interested in fighting games. But try it on arcade instead of buying this port. It's mostly an issue of developer who either completely doesn't care or is severely delusional. - Game crashes from time to time - Lacking training mode - No keyboard support and issues with controllers - No rematch option and long loading times It's also concerning that there's been huge balance changes with changes to game's aspect ratio. It was made…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →www.twitch.tv/azurastella Live playing an arcade run of The Rumble Fish 2! This classic fighting game was one of the only games Dimps ever made that wasn't contract work! It holds up really well, too!
positive · AI labelView post →I understand some of the negative reviews but I can't agree to them. I really don't want to develop more on this ... As for the game, I really like this one quite a bit. It's very unique in many ways and plays differently to other game of that era or modern games, but it's a lot of fun! I wouldn't buy this for the full price but on a deal it's a great pick!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A kind friend watched me playing The Rumble Fish 2 in an emulator and decided to gift me the Steam version. I'm not a fighting game expert by any means but I think it's neat. Here's me almost losing to CPU Mito on default settings.
positive · AI labelView post →Its peak (and yes this version is good trust me)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok so this is based on my first impressions, I am familiar with Dimp's other fighting game Street fighter 4. So I went into this one thinking it had the same type of gameplay. Safe to say it isn't a street fighter if i had to compare it's more akin to a king of fighters. 4 buttons with bonus options for quick inputs (like 2 punches or 2 kicks). The gameplay is 2000s fighting game, a specific kind of jank I both love and understand has its limitations. The character models are very detailed…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My Number 1 fighting game of ALL TIME is The Rumble Fish 2. I love this goddamn game and all the mechanics within. God I want everyone to try it out!
positive · AI labelView post →I want to make a fighting game that combines Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, The Rumble Fish 2, and a little bit of Guilty Gear. And have the cast be friends of mine.
neutral · AI labelView post →4. THE RUMBLE FISH 2 (2005) probably my favorite surprise hit so far, considering i hadnt heard a single thing about this game proper it was really cool to play it and find out its sick as hell. the animation style is real neat and its just an incredible time to play
positive · AI labelView post →anyway stan THE RUMBLE FISH 2. was hoping to get a clip of the matches i had with a friend but the replay keeps buffering after the second match when we were just figuring things out. this game is so fucking fun to play
positive · AI labelView post →Day 15 of #COMBOtober was a tough one for me, since most of the fighting games I play are from major publishers But there is a smaller fighting game that I like playing sometimes, which is The Rumble Fish 2!
positive · AI labelView post →classic fighting game, 2000 style, great game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- UPDATE - Since my initial review, the game has seen a couple of huge updates that brought about a lot of QoL changes and then some. Unfortunately, these changes have come a little too late as now there's hardly anyone playing this game so it's very hard to find ANY matches. Spectating lobbies only allow up to 3 people (room host can decide to spectate and host a spectate only room). This update was shadow dropped and was never advertised to the people who bought the game so no one probably…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems they finally fixed the majority of my issues as somebody who grinded this game in the arcade back in the day(Tokyo Game Action arcade stand up!). Thank you for the support will be changing my review to reflect these changes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's alright. And that's most I can say about it. Is it worth 30 bucks? Yes and no. Yes, if you're into Rumble Fish and want to support its official release in the West, or just like fighting games a lot. After all, it is a very solid fighting game with unique mechanics, art-style and sound design. But then again, it's not worth the 30 if you're unfamiliar with this title and don't know if its accessible enough for you. The mechanics are unique and difficult to master. With that being…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The thumbs down is mostly because of the paid DLC that used to be free unlockables in the original version and... because this is the rumble fish. If you played The Rumble Fish+ and enjoyed it, go right ahead and buy this game. I wanted to give this the thumbs up because this sequel is 10 times better than the first one, no questions asked, despite problems with the emulation that the initial reviews were talking about that were later patched (problems that I never experienced btw), the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please ignore the old and dated negative reviews. Any issues or problems with this game were fixed a long long time ago. It was made by DIMPS which was formed by older SNK and Capcom developers who helped create Street Fighter, Fatal Fatal, KOF, and other games(Street Fighter 4). This game is too good. From the music, art style, & with one of the best gameplay systems(in my opinion). Please give it a chance it's a great fighter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Briefly tried The Rumble Fish+ and The Rumble Fish 2. Interesting fighting game relics from the PS2 era. Not amazing, but kind of interesting and worth trying. #demo
neutral · AI labelView post →cool game and the port seems to work properly now
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, I can't pick one... Each project has had a special place and story. I'll say The Rumble Fish 2 meant a lot to me as a fighting game fan. And Captain Tsubasa was a lot of work for me as the lead editor with many collaborating translators; it expanded my concept for the role I could fill.
positive · AI labelView post →Even the gallery mode is lacking a lot, I will prevent every person in existence to purchase this game, a real crime after several years of waiting
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game in terms of gameplay. I love Arcade mode. The problem is there is no option to minimize the window and the games does not capture on Twitch Studio so its impossible to play and stream.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(EDIT 1/5/2024 - Changed to Positive) I'm glad to say that finally, with the addition of sidebars, all of the big outstanding issues with this port have been solved. I would now fully recommend playing this game via the Steam port for any fighting game fan. The lack of an expansive story mode or anything of the like might still be a sticking point for a casual fan, but it's a truly excellent fighting game finally done the justice it deserves. Bonus points to 3goo for their more recent…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great and I would highly reccomend anyone to at the very least give it a try. The biggest thing that is lacking is a rematch or lobbies to spectate. But the game functions beautifully.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Rumble Fish (The Rumble Fish)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spent like an hour and a half in The Rumble Fish 2 just labing a single combo UGH why do fighting game players do this to themselves.
neutral · AI labelView post →It's better than the first one, but man I find this game difficult. It's a lot of fun if you don't mind taking a lot of time to master the mechanics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8. The Rumble Fish 2 I enjoyed the original enough already but this....Just wow. Everything about this 2D fight game clicks right. When I finally got to play this at two separate MAGFests years ago and met two very dear friends through what seemed like hours of play on the cab, it was beautiful.
positive · AI labelView post →2. The Rumble Fish 2 Number 1 fighting game of all time for me. It's charming and surprisingly deep. Go try it.
positive · AI labelView post →They fixxed the port, but its now an omega discord game. Reccomened if you like those and games that are awesome and cool in general.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like this games aesthetics and style, honestly could do really good if it another sequel with modern graphics! The arcade I hate, Beatrice is insanely unfair
