What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 184 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (478 of 623 positive).
Players praise the game's absurd humor and creative twists on the trolley problem. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the mini-games tedious or clunky, and the pacing uneven. [4][5][6] A few players criticize the requirement to replay levels for achievements and the paid DLC. [7][8][5]

Sadly more trolleys than dilemmas. Still funny, but not at all what I expected Let’s be clear: The Trolley Solution is not the philosophical crisis simulator I signed up for. I came for moral dilemmas mixed with cute random mini-games, not a plethora of mini-games that occasionally throw in a choice like “Who gets splashed? You or a random stranger?” and call it a day. It’s funny and quirky, yes, but don’t expect to …

This game does a masterful job of taking the trolley problem and pushing it to its craziest possible extremes. There is some very good humour, and the subtle ways in which it portrays a sense of morality and philosophy are profound. I cannot recommend this game enough. It is worth noting (and very on point) that the DLC is required to earn all the achievements. Seriously, everyone should play this game!

This game is a joke. In a literal sense and in a good way. It takes the trolley problem and and repurposes it into increasingly ridiculous scenarios. A lot of them were genuinely surprising and impressive in how far they pushed the concept. The same can be said for the music. There is one song, Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1, and it's remixed and rearranged to suit the situation. One minor gripe I have is that a few of …

This was quite lovely – for the first 75% of my playtime! Then I had to play the entire thing again in a specific way just for a single achievement, wasting an hour of my life. A truly terrible choice that makes you annoyed with the game when you're done rather than being delighted with the cute little experience you had experienced up until that point. I'll still give it a thumbs-up, because besides that I have no …

Very fun game taking the trolley problem to the next level. Highly recommend. Good laughs and simple game structure for maximum enjoyment.

73% of the 184 Steam reviewers we collected recommend The Trolley Solution. The complaint that keeps coming up: some mini-games feel clunky or tedious. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

neutral · AI labelView post →My issue with this game is one of Trolly Problem Completionism. While the minigames, can be cute, amusing or even fun in some instances, the glue designed to hold them together, the trolly problems themselves, are.... well. To complete the game, you're meant to do them twice, and select a different outcome each time. This, texturally, feels wrong and off-putting every time it happens. A game based around a famous thought experiment about choice- and you aren't expected to make a choice. You do…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I forgot to mention - this week's recommended game on my podcast is The Trolley Solution, a crazy little point and click game that has a lot of fun with the classic philosophical dilemma. There are also 20 minigames including a Crazy Taxi style game, a Subway Surfers game and a trolley dating sim!
positive · AI labelView post →It's somewhat entertaining I guess? The humor is alright I guess, there's some meta humor and absurdist humor if you're into it. The mini games are a hit or miss, mostly a miss for me. Most of them feel too clunky or too tedious and a chore to play. It feels insanely cheap to lock the completion of all 40 stages that's promised in the base game (see game description) behind a PAID DLC, even if it's for reasons of meta humor. That alone soured my view of the game to bother reviewing this. For…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had to come back and review this one. I love absurdist philosophy games but this one just missed the mark. The minigames are long and drawn out, repetitive, and don’t respect the player’s time. You’ll get a few chuckles and might enjoy the references but this feels like 2.2hr steambait. If you want a game that captures this but understands the spirit of the trolley problem, Trolley Problem Inc. is miles better and will leave a much longer lasting impression on you
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I should start by prefacing that I did somewhat enjoy playing this, and I certainly wouldn't call it a terrible game - there's quite a few elements that I really liked actually. The idea of using the trope of Absurd Trolley Problems as a jumping off point for parody humor is legitimately interesting, and the absurdist humor is executed very well in some levels. The aesthetic choices fit the vibe perfectly. Unfortunately, in order to really appreciate all this, you kinda have to forget you're…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another short game finished. This one called The Trolley Solution based on the old thought experiment but taken to the absurd. It was pretty good. Didn't overstay it's welcome. And had some references to other games in there. Some of the mini games really require a mouse though.
positive · AI labelView post →I'd love to ask all my followers - what's your favorite off-the-beaten-path video game you've played this year? (Feel free to post yours in the thread below) One I truly enjoyed was The Trolley Solution. It's a goofy little game that only takes a couple of hours to fully complete. But it's funny!

neutral · AI labelView post →A short and sweet game. It's a simple demonstration that anyone can make a game. I don't mean that in a critical way about this game. More of an encouraging way for those on the fence about making games. Simple free-use music. Simple art. Simple mechanics. These devs wanted to make a point and play around with it for fun. And that's what this is. It doesn't take itself seriously nor asks you to take it seriously. Either you'll come off this with a sense of: "What was the point of that?" /or/…

neutral · AI labelView post →Every time I review something, I try to keep subjectivity out of it (for the most part) and instead ask myself, "What is this game trying to accomplish, and did it accomplish it?" But in the case of The Trolley Solution, I don't know how to answer that. I hate giving a negative review for an indie team that clearly put a lot of passion into the project. I have no qualms with the quality at all. The aesthetic and writing service the needs of the game just fine. If you know what you're getting…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, props to the developer who took the game to r/trolleyproblem, and actually listened to the demand of adding MULTI-TRACK DRIFTING. The mini-games are also very fun, and the question are very mind-provoking. The upcoming part of the review will contain spoilers for a VERY specific question which will explain why I requested a refund, despite recommending this game. I bought this game during Halloween Sale. During said time, the bundle of the base game and the VIP DLC only differs…

neutral · AI labelView post →Was that it!? Absolutely not worth the money. Wouldn't spend more than a quid on this. Main game can be completed in about 10 mins. It thinks it's funnier than what it is. The "DLC" joke is beyond stupid, and if you actually paid for that then the joke really is on you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall just Meh However multiple levels are bugged, make sure you have a controller at least connected for these levels to work - Missing point of view - Mightier than the sword - A different Point of view -
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think I've ever refunded a game on the basis of it being unfunny before, but there's a first time for everything I suppose. It doesn't take itself seriously so there's no stakes or philisophical intrigue. And its humour seems limited to references to pop culture, but the jokes themselves are drawn out and have little to say beyond "what if Sisyphus' boulder was a trolley? What if it had internet pop-ups while you pressed buttons for 5 minutes? What if Crazy Taxi was a mediocre…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game cost £4 and got me to donate £50 to Save The Children. 11/10, perfect game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I presume this would work better as a party or streaming game. Playing alone, it becomes a checklist to see all possible variations which quickly loses all pretense of fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The theory behind this game, the question "which one would you choose" is interesting but I fear it is not enough to base a whole game on. The only really interesting part in this are the minigames you can unlock between the "proper" levels. There is a huge variety of minigames, from first person driving a train, to pushing up a train sysiphus style, to a visual novel, etc. The other levels don't offer much variety and none of your choice have any impact. You also have to play all levels at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It lost me at the Tamagotchi minigame. It is incredibly boring and far too long.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's Play The Trolley Solution - Isekai'd by Trolley-kun. I regret literally everything about that title.
neutral · AI labelView post →This was very boderline cause like, I did smile many times. But there's so many little annoying mini games, things that are funny for 5 seconds then last 5 minutes. And especially for it to be so late to the trolley trend, go play absurd trolley problems its way funnier and free in your browser.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean, ♥♥♥♥ it's alright I guess. It's not terrible I guess. Some humor lands, some doesn't. I think I couldn't really get into it because some of the humor is kind of just... tedium as meta humor or as gameplay, or both. Not super fond of it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring game. Nothing like trailer. The menu is too slow and all the intro's for the level the same. Should've removed all of that and just make one continious track with the new choices appearing.

positive · AI labelView post →Philippa Foot, 1967: "runaway tram... five...on one track, one... on the other". What do we do? This is one such problem posed to us in this very quick game called The Trolley Solution. twitch.tv/jalenbarks
neutral · AI labelView post →I've been playing The Trolley Solution tonight and it's really amused me. It's a goofy little game with a fun aesthetic and an incredible hook - absurd trolley problem situations! - but it's well-made and quite endearing. I recommend it! (I have no idea what the DLC actually does, BTW)
positive · AI labelView post →The Trolley Solution on Steam. The Trolley Solution is a compilation of point-and-click minigames based on the famous thought experiment originally proposed by Philippa Foot.
neutral · AI labelView post →Here's a game I've been keeping my eye on because it looks like fun, and it's out today! The Trolley Solution, a collection of trolley problem minigames which includes some outlandish situations that even includes dating Trolley-san in a visual novel style vignette!
neutral · AI labelView post →100% worth it for trolly-san *beep-beep* was one of the best 3 hours of my life.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a rough up thumb. Definitely has some pacing issues with some of the "mini" games. The novelty of being Sisyphus or using a Tamagochi wears off real quick yet the game asks you to keep going for like 5 minutes. "Teehee, it's like Trolley Sim!" you may giggle at the second-to-last gag, only to then play Trolley Sim for like 10 minutes and understand why you bought this game and not Trolley Simulator 2026. Still, if you can push past the bits of tedium, it's not entirely a terrible…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 The game is obviously the developers having fun with the trolley problem, and wants to test the player's morality. There's nothing wrong with that. However, the end result of this game is just extremely boring, tedious, and mind numbing. I picked it up on sale for the steam summer sale for $5. Cheap game. It's not worth the $10, and I wouldn't quite say worth the $5. There are 40 levels total. 20 of them are legitimate trolley problem conundrums on whether you pull the lever or…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/fFycIi_NmgE Humor, like a trolley, is a lot less fun on rails and the delivery here lacks timing and punch due to weak pacing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →liked most of the increasingly absurd conundrums (except for the cringy leftist one), but most of the minigames are rather frustrating and annoying, partly because of the control mechanics. I guess it's 100% completable if you really want to drench your soul in some meaninglessness, but other than that I wouldn't bother. Get it on sale if you want to try it out, though. Bonus points for the cool philosopher cards.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A funny joke that takes too long to arrive at the station. I love short games. I love minigames. I love indie games. I love comedy games. I love the trolley problem and the ridiculous scenarios that you can come up with using its basic premise. The Trolley Solution falls under all of those categories, so it should've been a perfect match for me. However, it fell extremely short in the most important part of any good joke and game: pacing. This game is ostensibly a series of joke-based…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like philosophy, and I REALLY wanted to like this game. But it's not worth ten dollars. It's a charming game with a lot of potential, but because of how hit-or-miss every minigame is, I think it falls short in many areas.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game makes you think, sadly never found the multitrack drifting one but great small 1 and a half hour game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting indie game based on the trolly problem appears on Steam. You have the option to buy the game and enjoy it, which would help support DanDan. That would help DanDan but would leave you with less time and money. What would you do? o / ( )
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short funny game with satirical takes on classical philosophic dilemma
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game. The game was really funny and I liked the mini games. I recommend playing this game if you want to have a good laugh
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would not buy it at full price (10 USD at the time of writing this). There's only about an hour or 2 for a fully done file, and only 2-3 playthroughs (took me about 3.5 hours) are needed for all achievements. If the price was $5 instead, then it'd be a pretty good meme game to purchase, but right now it's kinda just a little fun for an afternoon at $10. There's no replayability after all achievements, either, so it's kinda just $10 you don't get back. That being said, I think I got this on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Whew, that was really fun and short adventure. If you like games which "play with you" - like pony island, you'll most likely gonna like this one. Visual style is really decent, game play is simple but each level is unique from mechanics standpoint, and has huuuge amount of irony in it. And one of the best things - humor, some levels literally made me laugh out loud. So if you're searching for a way to spend around a hour of you day - try it
