It is a good game. But resetting all progress (map unlocking, picked up items, etc) since last save on death without auto checkpoints, etc is a terrible mechanic and easily allows you to lose 20-30 minutes of progress if you're not careful. Of course, this happened in this game too, and I really can't stress enough how much it spoils the fun.

A Metroidvania that answers the question "what if Samus was an '80s post-apocalypse hero with a BMX bike instead of a spaceship?". Good graphics, good plot, good gameplay, good for America. In fact, it wasn't until later that I realized it was based on a movie. I thought "woah, that explains the number of film companies that show when you start the game". That makes this game even rarer: an actually *good* movie tie …

One of the best metroidvanias I've played. The controls are tight, the upgrades are satisfying and the map gives you multiple paths to explore. I was a bit sceptical about the bike at first, but it is actually a really fantastic upgrade. You can turn it on and off at the push of a button and it functions in the same way as any other upgrades. And while the world is designed with the bike in mind, it is still fun to …

With no unity stutter, excellent pixel artwork, a fairly high production value, good soundtrack and few bugs this metroid-like with a BMX is a definite hidden gem. If you encounter that bug and see your weapons only doing a tiny amount of damage, just exit and renter the game. Turbo Kid is both a ranged and melee metroidvania that is unique for equipping the main character with a bicycle that you can ride. If this …

honestly, its depressing how few people have played this game. lovely metroidvania game, and a fantastic expansion of the Turbo Kid universe. it gets a 9.8 or maybe 9.5 out of 10 from me.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you've seen Turbo Kid, you'll love the game. Has new music and your favorites from the movie. Game plays like if metroid and megaman were put into blender for drinkable water.

It made the whole story of the game and the flashbacks resonate so much more (Also, the movie is an absolute banger). I also really appreciate how you can play as Apple instead if you want. I have to say, I am 100% Turbo Kid pilled now.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game... unseen. A hidden gem that needs more attention from everyone! Note: It is a metroidvania game! From just playing not even a full hour, I can already tell this is a really great game that wasn't rushed in development or pushed out earlier than intended from some CEO higher up. Funny thing is.. I wanted to look up PewDiePie's old game Legend of the Brofist from like 2014/2015 and since that game was a hit back then, I was curious what Outerminds Inc. has done since and then I saw…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was very well made and fairly big too, even for a Metroidvania. I beat the game and did a decent amount of the side quests and it took me exactly 11 hours, but my completion rate was only at 72%. I bet there is another 4 or 5 hours of content if I wanted to 100% it, including perfecting the race segments, perfecting the battle room challenges, and finding all of the hidden items. I haven't seen the movie and I don't think it is necessary to enjoy this game, although it probably…

neutral · AI labelView post →Pretty great metroidvania that is a sequel to a pretty great movie (of the same name, which is sort of an ultra-violent comedic take on Mad Max). Annoying missable achievements, but I got them all in one run, luckily. Cool pixel art and music. The bmx stuff is fun too, although it could've been better. If you don't want the movie spoiled, watch it before playing this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The music deserves an award
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A one of a kind game experience on the epic story of TURBO KID traversing through the wasteland finding what the rest of the wasteland looks like and becoming THE ULTIMATE TURBO KID HERO. This story is more of a continuation from the incredible movie so its amazing to feel the heart and soul that was put into this game, the art and the story. I loved my playthrough and enjoyed every bit of this as I already love the Turbo Kid movie, its my favorite. ONCE YOU ACTIVATE THE KID THE TURBO CHARGE…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is some good ideas in here. Some of the combat is fun, but the overall gameplay is incredibly frustrating. For a game that focuses on movement physics, it really gets in the way with awkward controls and enemy knockback that is inconsistent. The save system is also brutal.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The "Turbo Kid" movie from 2015 is one of my all time favorite movies and you might imagine my surprise when I found out that there is a Turbo Kid game. When I saw it mentioned in a Steam Deck thread on Lemmy, at first I thought someone was pulling my leg. Why had I not heard about this? I love metroidvania-style games, have played through Hollow Knight, both Ori's, Animal Well... why was this never suggested to me on Steam? Seeing the great review score and that it runs well on the Steam Deck…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey Turbo Kid Game fan… it looks like YT is taking action over the use of the music from the Tk Game. We are aware & we also got a restriction/copyright strike over our own YT channel. We are working with the label to fix that problem asap.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is an incredible sequel to the movie. Pumping soundtrack, excellent metroidvania mechanics, good controls and an interesting story. Definitely check it out. Please release the soundtrack!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Whether you're a fan of the Turbo Kid movie or not, if you're looking for a retro-style metroidvania to play, you're in for a real treat here. This game essentially blends together the Mad Max concept with a BMX-riding Mega Man/Samus to create a humorous (but also dark) and well-paced action adventure. While it isn't necessary to have seen the movie (the story is self-contained but takes place after the events of the movie), it does include some direct references which provide some context to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I ran into a bug were I can't progress the game. Its the witch's lab were the slime goes under ground. The text happens then I am stuck in that room. 4 hrs in and I don't want to start over. I tried emailing the company to fix it, and asked for a refund. They did nothing. The first time were there is a game I want to keep playing, but its broken. Version 1.0117. Don't buy it until they fix this bug.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was fun until you got to the Lightning Dome. Shame on you developers. Shame on you. This level of amateurishness is embarrassing. The controls and mechanics are far too sloppy for combat time trials. It's just annoying and tedious. Again, shame on you. Ruined your own game. Keep this kind of trash out of the genre.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holy hell, why aren't people talking about this game more? It's incredible. The art style, the outrageous amounts of artistic detail, the characters, the lore, THE SOUNDTRACK. All it is superb. The gameplay is solid too. The enemies have variety, and the weapon upgrades add some fun. There are bazillions of secrets and fun little things to find. The bike is a fun way to traverse and to solve certain puzzles (intentionally or through jank). Most of the negative reviews are about difficulty, so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big fan of the movie. Big fan of metroidvanias. Can't really recommend this one. I like the art style and how the journal fills out as you interact with people. Other than that, just couldn't enjoy exploration or combat a whole lot. Maybe it's meant to fit retro, but losing 30 min I spent exploring because I didn't run into a safe spot is not cool. Abilitites feel a bit wonky. Enemies don't feel fun to fight.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun tough-as-nails Metroidvania. A cult classic for the genre, just like the movie it's based on!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I waited a while for this gem to come out. And my patience was not in vain... Metroidvania is easily my favorite genre. And I can tell you, with great confidence, that this belongs on the shelf with the other modern greats: Hollow Knight, Ori, Narita Boy... It plays like a great blend of Mega Man and Metroid, with plenty of nooks and crannies to discover (with lots of 80s/90s easter eggs). Lots of charging-blasting-slicing action against a pretty decent roster of baddies. The bike mechanics…

It’s full of beautiful matte paintings and makes it clear to the audience not to take it seriously- and just like the movie, this game is a blast. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Expecting from modern developers a good game from the Turbo kid movie, it is the same level of naivete as expecting from modern developers a good Fallout game. Turbo kid game is a mid-bad game, but in the term of the story of the world, continuation of the story of the movie, it is terrible. Seems to be another case, when developers hated source material and decided to change it. If you liked the movie, one hour will be enough to ensure that this game is worth the refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved everything about this game. It just gives me that The Goonies, Excitebike, Metroid, and Castlevania vibes of the NES era, but it is light-years ahead of those games being more accessible, playable and enjoyable(for me at least). If you love the Metroidvania genre and or even Excitebike I think you will love this game. My one real gripe, or rather a wish is that it had a dedicated mode or maps that opened up just for the use of bike as it is so much fun to ride. There are plenty of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Obviously, all Turbo Kid movie fans should give it a go. The game is executed PERFECTLY. So many nice details and the story is written pretty well. Excellent soundtrack by Le Matos. If there were non positives, my oppinion is the ending weapon chips seem a bit rushed amd the final chapter also. We could've seen some more villain development. But maybe it would have taken too much spotlight off the Kid. All in all - very fun, sometimes really challenging game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8 out of 10 super solid indie title, very unique gameplay experience. If you're looking for some extremely tough boss battles this game will definitely not disappoint!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent in all departments. Really sharp controls and metroidvania design. The BMX bike is a very cool addition. The movie is free to watch on tubi or plex, and it's also fun. Great pixel art. Plenty of secrets. Overall just great stuff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This dev is on top. What a magnificent gem. Why isnt this game talked about? its better than 98% of games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the best games of its kind I have ever played. The crazy thing, this game tells more about turbo kid then all other content on the series combined. Find all the rooms, it will tell you just how much hart and soul went into this game. I say again "A rare gem in a sea of fools treasure" glad I found it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Turbo Kid, the game I worked on during my time at Outerminds is finally out and it’s pretty rad! Vibe to the amazing soundtrack by le Matos and enjoy a gore-filled metroidvania and general good time in the Wasteland #gamedev #turbokid store.steampowered.com/app/1733250/...
positive · AI labelView post →Great game ! Watch the movie and then, play the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Turbo Kid is an example of a game that does *just* enough, and that is okay. Better than being horrible. Games are often too ambitious for their own good, and by the end of the game, I'm sick of it. Turbo Kid is closer to a standard entry in the genre, with some flaws, but also some really cool things, and it excels for that. Not every game needs to be genre-defining, generational, or upper echelon. It is enough to be competent and fun, and that is where Turbo Kid succeeds. Check out my full…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No instant save, too few check point, too few teleport, can't teleport in overworld map, clumsy control. What a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game but it has issues. Micro-stuttering. I have a great PC and it often stutters. 45-50 fps instead of 60. Moving the map around too fast causes this, as well as normal game play. There is a part of the game where there are saw blades on the ground, and you can't see them half the time because their is text on the screen covering them up, and i can't seem to find any option to remove it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to enjoy the game as the style, controls, and environments are all compelling. Unfortunately the controls are janky and the combat is tedious. The game feels like a hack n slash but plays like a Souls-like. When it works, it works well, and it's a thrill to be zooming across the wasteland. However, taking any sort of damage snowballs combat and movement into a frustrating slog. Not to mention I've skipped entire dialogue sequences, both story and optional, by playing the game like…

neutral · AI labelView post →[A Tier] Metroidvania that continues the plot of the 2015 film I liked the world-building in this and the soundtrack was seriously awesome. Your main attack is ranged but melee attacks are also powerful and useful. The map is pretty large and there is about 10-15 hours of content. There's a slight learning curve with the physics of bike riding but once you get it down you'll be jumping ramps like a pro. Also, upon death, all progress is reset / lost back to your last save point BUT save points…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this to try it out and refund it, I will NOT be refunding it. this is crazy fun and the soundtrack is a 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most fun games ive ever played. Its cool to see a follow up in this form becos the Movie is awesome and 10/10 recommend both. Just exploring and BMXing never got old to me. Hoping this comes to ps5. DEVS IF YOU READ THESE REVIEWS PLEASE PICK UP THE RIGHTS TO HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN. i think your take on a prequel or the game itself would be great. Thanks.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am disappointed. The concept of a metroidvania on a BMX sounded very interesting. But one hour in and still no bike, and the rest of the game isn't very interesting. Combat, movement, exploration and visuals are all very middling and don't feel very good. Maybe the game gets really cool when you do get the bike back, it seemed to feel good in the intro, but I don't to stay longer to find out. Music is vibe though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not bad. It's Metroid, but with a bike. There's some parts that are obnoxiously difficult. There are some hidden difficulty settings in the pause menu that can increase damage, defense, health, etc. You have to turn them on every time you restart the game. Overall worth playing especially when on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just try it, you won't regret it! Whether you prefer the original movie or Metroidanias.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, fairly challenging, and just plain great m'vania (with absolutely STELLAR music) that doesn't outstay its welcome. Very much recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Turbo Kid is the kind of indie project that immediately radiates personality — a loud, stylish Metroidvania built on a foundation of 80s pulp, post-apocalyptic grit, and irreverent charm. Developed and published by Outerminds Inc., the game faithfully channels the aesthetic spirit of the cult-favorite film it’s based on while standing firmly on its own as a kinetic, exploration-driven action platformer. From the moment you step into its dusty, irradiated wasteland, the game makes it clear what…
