Ultra Age is definitely a fun game and it's an ideal entry point for people who want to get to know the hack 'n slash genre. I ended up playing it on switch. Generic environments and enemies. Good combat. Really dumb story. Cool bosses. Wonky balance. Good performance. Too short. It'll scratch the ARPG itch but get it on sale. If you think you'll like it you probably will but it won't wow you.

Completely linear. Battle: not good, not bad. Story: meh. Weapons: 6 weapons, but you will always just use Katana (for Beasts) and the Greatsword (for Machines). Postgame / Worldmap / Teleport: Nope. If you missed a upgrade, replay the whole game. 100%: around 6 hours. Overall: Nope. Buy Metal Gear: Revengeance for the same price. It have better soundtrack, better battles, everything is better.

SHADES OF TAN, THE GAME! Is it 2005 again? Ah yes, Ultra Age, the poor mans version of DMC. After playing the game, the best way I can describe this game is that it has the resource management aspects and checkpoint system of Dark Souls, with the combat and style of something like DMC5 or Nier Automata, and a progression system that takes cues from both styles of game while also being it's own thing. Which is to say that the game is very good! Ultra Age I still think is more of a rough gem…

It's really not that bad, and I knew not to expect the world with a small team's love letter to DMC. In a lot of ways they got the feeling and the ability to go CUHRAYZEEE right, giving you 4 equippable weapons that let you offensively swap between them with seemless combo potential. Thing is, the game is AGGRESSIVELY middling in presentation. Music doesn't pump you at all, enemies aren't too interesting, and the dime store Nero you play as doesn't have the charisma that makes you want to…

Definitely on the fence on this one but leaning more on the negative side. Too many unfocused elements along with a bloated level design (looking at you desert area) that just feels wrong in a game that's clearly made with combat as the selling point. I really do applaud the effort as (so I've heard) this game was developed by a few students but it just feels more frustrating than fun at times. Maybe get it on discount but temper your expectations.

I don't really ever review games, but this is pretty good. I've never played NieR, but the setting in this game reminds of it. Combat feels pretty good. Has i-frame dodges. Combat feels weighty. It's completely sub'd (which I really don't care about), but just so people know. It's uh. It's pretty good. Solid like. 7/10. I like it. I've already got like 27/32 achievements or something so I feel like I've almost beaten the game. Two boss fights done so far. Pretty fun.

I thought this game sacrificed everything to make up for a great hack n slash game. Turned out the gameplay mechanics are rather dated. Enemy AI behavior can be weird. Basically, the entire game wants you to wield particular blades for enemies. For example, the katana is vulnerable for bio-organic/living things while the Claymore does massive chunk of damage to humanoids and robots. Although you are allowed to change between 4 blades, having to play with enemy vulnerabilities in mind limits…

I do recommend Ultra Age overall, but it does have some significant flaws with it. On a fair numerical scale, where the line for an average game is 5 instead of 7, I would rate this game 6.5/10. It's a fair effort for the first game from a new studio, and I hope that they learn from the experience and their next game will be even better. Speaking of the positives of the game, the combat overall feels good. All the attacks feel fluid and the dodge is responsive. Attack animations are done well…

Maybe a good effort, but... This game... for that price... really ? Good combat, but short, empty and with camera problems when the boss is too big. Absolutly generic soulless game. Feels like some dudes with nothing better to do randomly decided to make a hack & slash in a few weeks because they were bored. Buy it on big discount to spend a few hours, or better yet add a few bucks and buy DMC5 or Nier Automata for 1/3 of the price.

I was so bored. I had to get a refund on it. The game isn't bad, it isn't good, it's just meh. I would rather play a hilariously bad game or a frustratingly good game than ever play an extremely average game. It doesn't help that the game has very little in terms of enemy variety, clunky animations, and a lack of weapon diversity. If you can get it for around 5 bucks, you got a good deal, but it is not worth what it is asking for.

A good indie game that takes cues from DMC and other so called "character action" games. Its short but the gameplay is pretty solid, it may lack a style or combo meters (in a traditional way) but the action is still frantic and mechanically satisfying. In about 6 hours i 100% completed the game so if youre on the fence or tight on your budget i would suggest waiting for a sale.

A low budget Devil May Cry-like. Combat could be good, but it is barely average thanks to lackluster camera management. Otherwise, the plot is badly written with a cliffhanger ending that lack imagination. Buy it on sales if you want to spend a few hour (less than 10 in my case) on a game of this kind, but there are much better around.

I love hack and slashes and I tried to give this game a ton of grace. I wasn't expecting DMC level combat or a story that mattered but I thought this game had promise. It gets all the little things wrong that makes the combat chunky, slow and a feeling of YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING wrong. When in reality they got the little things wrong. Terrible camera, really bad lock on mechanics, lack of combos that show any real variation and having a maze before the final boss fight was the last straw.

I went into this game looking for a lightweight action title to tide me over until some other large releases came down the pipeline. Fortunately, that's exactly what this product is. Nonetheless, I appreciate the effort and hope to see these devs try hard to refine their craft more, create more games of this type, and do better in aspects I believe that Ultra Age did not do so good at. It is a very well done mix of Devilmaycry and Nier, with simple combos for all the swords that can be used in different situations (aoe, focus attack, leaps etc). This is just such a good game. I like DMC style games and this one i really enjoyed. There are lots of upgrades and few weapons which you can fight with. Overall i like this game and i wish there were more games like this

Ultra Age This is pretty good! A nice little action game made by 4 South Korean students from University. For what it is, it is a lot of fun! The swordplay is solid and I like swapping out blades for different enemies and upgrading each of them. Your movement kit gets the job done pretty well too

#11. Ultra Age. I have no idea how purely indie this is but nobody fucking played it and Clair Obscur just won indie of the year so fuck you. It's a sick character action game. Give it a shot. store.steampowered.com/app/1683100/...

forgot to reply earlier but yea, i really like this game! i frequent a lot of lower budget action games made by smaller indie devs (Ultra Age, Assault Spy, Dusk Diver 2, etc.) so Lost Soul Aside was extremely up my alley, very excited to play through it a couple times more

Damn...somehow this Lost Soul Aside discourse has unearthed my memories of the character action game from a while back, Ultra Age, and I feel like the relatively obscure Ultra Age is far closer to what it set out to be, doing so much more successfully more than LSA. 😭

it really sucks but for a game that started production like 10 years ago (earnestly began dev 5 years ago probably) and is published and funded by fucking Sony you would hope for an action game with at least the same level of freedom for the player to express themselves as fucking Ultra Age

A low-budget hack-and-slash action game that can be fun if you don't expect much from it and the game doesn't demand much of your time.

would be an amazing nier automata/dmc clone if it had more polish, enemy animations are very abrupt with little wind up making perfect dodges and parries a little unreliable overall a good experience, definitely pick it up on sale

It's a cheap knockoff of nier automata with the same bad nonsense combat, empty characters and bland visuals.

The main characters animations are horrible. His run animation is laughably bad. The key posing is just amateurish and awkward. The voice acting is really bad too.
