I wish steam reviews had a 'meh' option, because I don't want to recommend this game but I also do not want to say that it should not be played. Pros: So far I think the mech combat parts of the game are okay and the setting is kind of interesting. Cons: The wannabe edgy story is not as compelling as the developers think it is. Unfortunately you will be forced to listen to nonsensical noir inspired dialog that …

6/10 I was a little disappointed by this game. First, this game has incredible qualities. The voice acting is great and perfectly matches each character. All the characters are great, even the training robot with its weird voice. Their 2D portraits were done in a anime art-style that I really liked. It reminded me a little of Cowboy Bebop. The dialogs were funny, witty, easy to read, yet well written. But, this game …

I think it was in middle school. There was this guy in a class parallel to mine, we'd have PE together. He was a bit of a celebrity - the teachers mentioned that he's a writer, received awards for his writing, whatever. You wouldn't know it by talking to him, though; he swore like a f*cking sailor. And that wasn't in English, mind you, it was in a language with swears far more complex (and flowery). He looked down on people; had this arrogant air about him. To my surprise, I was one of the few…

Too much Bebop, not enough game. I don’t hate Wolfstride, but let’s be real. The devs clearly mainlined entirely too much Bebop and then decided to make a game out of poop jokes, Gundams, anime ennui, and long pauses where nobody says what they mean. It's stylish. Weird. And frequently cringe by design. Gameplay is there, technically. You walk. You talk. You do favors for tired men, talking animals, and witches with sunglasses. Most of it feels like stalling for time between cutscenes. The…

I finished this game and I have never been conflicted about a game. The art and music is amazing, the robot fighting is cool (if a bit broken), the most of the characters a really neat. I just have problems with the ways it waste your time, every time you enter an area you have to go through a mostly empty street just to get to the area you want to go to. Probably I would save hours if I didn't have to walk back and forth. The writing is not very strong either, cause sometimes it gets way too…

If you can get passed the tedious running back and forward between locations and the insufferable dialogue that sounds like someone thinks borderlands is the peak of comedy. You'll be happily rewarded with some solid turn based combat. This could have been really interesting, and it's clear that there is passion put into it. I just feel it is dragged down by the writing and general game play loop outside of the fights.

Before playing, I read a review that described Wolfstride as the devs' entire hearts poured into a game with a market reach of, like, 5 specific nerds. Lucky for me, I'm one of them and I loved it. :) It's a GREAT game. Has a few bumps (some typos, some weird balancing, money and the item/skill shops become useless quite soon, a bit draggy navigation, some overwriting) but it oozes style and heart in a way that every game should. Shout out specifically to whoever pitched ZZ Zowie.…

What I expected: mecha battles. What I got: lots of walking. Looooooooooooots of walking. So much walking that the little bits of content I got started seeming insignificant in the face of it. After spending what, two in-game weeks walking through every screen and checking every object to see if there was any change or any reason at all that there was no fast-travel to skip all the walking, I was done. Hell of a game! It goes all in on the vibe, and really nails it; that sorta Cowboy Bebop, mecha anime style. The soundtrack is killer, the voice acting is all names I've not come across before (as far as I know), but they all put in extremely good performances. And the mech fighting is rather solid, even if you've figured a fight out the sheer style of it all keeps it satisfying to dismantle an opponent! I enjoyed the twists, turns, and complexities, and every advanced part or skill I could…

Wolfstride probably would not appeal to me if it was accurately described. Like generally I don't go for visual novels. Or at least I thought I didn't. Maybe I should try more. Generally I don't think writing in a game is very important to my enjoyment of it. I think I'd rather read a book or listen to a song, watch a movie, if I want something "well written". By that I mean the text conveys interesting ideas in a fashion distinct to the work. And videogames rarely can hit that for me. But…

Don't take this pseudo JRPG in stride... I can safely say that Wolfstride is unlike any other game that I have ever played. Are there others like it out there on the market? Most assuredly. But none have as much thought or attention to detail put into them, if you ask me. I won't be providing any kinds of spoilers here, other than to say that this action-packed visual novel perfectly encapsulates the experience of playing an anime protagonist with a shadowy & tragic past. A bumpy but extremely enjoyable ride. More of a visual novel with proper gameplay than anything else, but there is so much to like about Wolfstride. The No More Heroes like structure moves along the plot, going from grinding minigames and sidejobs to upgrade your mech and get new attacks for these fun clashes against other mechas. Initially the premise is super entertaining, but sadly, you eventually will encounter loopholes within the combat system, and its very easy for the daily tasks to…

This game is mainly a story driven game and it's cool as ♥♥♥♥ with maxed out style points. My two negatives about it is that this is a game that should've had a fast travel or at least a quick exit from an area, and the difficulty being too easy once you figured it out. It had it's challenging moments, but that was me beating enemies I shouldn't have been fighting until I got some of the later parts but I managed to defeat them before even getting the late game parts anyway.

Wolfstride is a slow burn, from movement to combat to story but still pulls you through to the end with a fun story. The presentation of pixel art and a black and white art style is confusing since it don't really do anything for world building or having the premise being anything noir, but still a different choice that makes the game unique and adds a bit of grit I suppose. I kinda just poured out my feelings of this game so be advised there might be potential spoilers but no plot points spelled out. I'm a bit divided, I'll review it as positive to help the developers, but it's borderline. The game is a visual novel with mini-games and a very simple turn based mecha fighting, but most of the game loop is walking around town checking if there are events or not. It has a unique charm to the characters and you can tell the developers love video games with the references they added. This one of a kind game has become one of my favourites. While you have to accept that at the beginning you are not meant to win as the game puts you in two unwinnable fights (pretty sure the second one is honestly) once you start to win it feels incredible. Amazing story, though it drags a little at the 3/4 mark. A little polish could've made this one of the best narrative games ever, but as is, it's still really great.

This is an rpg from the point of view of Shade, a fellow with one hell of a checkered past who is.. in some ways, trying to find his way. It's hard not to delve into it without spoilers, but: Very solid turn based combat, mecha style using preset moves and AP (action points) and MP (move points) Four parts of a mech; both arms, chest, and head. Losing one disables stuff and attacks associated with it. Losing the chest loses the match. Extrapolate that to a movie like set of cutscenes and…

Well, I love the art style. Characters are very good, and music is amazing. But there is too much of "Sh*t" and "F*ck" in the game. Characters keep saying it, almost constantly. It grew old before the first fortnight ends, but they keep saying it over and over again, like an edgy teenager who've just learned bad words. There also a sub-plots which are not related to mecha fights at all. And the ending is all over the place. I've expected something like Redline (2009). And it was there, in all…

It's been a while since I've tried out a mecha game, but Wolfstride will be starting on Friday! #SeedlingSchedule

30.8 hours is how long it took me to 100% the game, to do everything that has an achievement and even the stuff in-game that doesn't. I've never been so engrossed in a game narrative before. For a general idea, imagine this game as Megalobox meets Real Steel, with a dash of Neon White sprinkled in. I never wanted to stop playing. The game offers a cast of goofballs I could never get enough of, with gameplay that while admittedly is rather simple, is still super fun and addictive. Getting this…

After many years I decided to push through and actually finish Wolfstride, I fully understand that this game is "Story first, game second" which I fully get from the start but I decided both to restart from scratch and fully re-experience Wolfstride for myself and to accomplish it, I have to admit it wasn't easy for my ADHD brain but I fully completed the game and 100% except for one achievement, and no I am not doing it if you know what I mean. Tbh I would absolutely loved to see a sequel to…

This game is kinda hard to review. It's black and white style are awesome, it has legitimately great voice acting, the mechanics of the fights themselves are surprisingly engaging if limited, the story is melodramatic (but that's the point.) Honestly, it I had to compare Wolfstride to any other games it's be No More Heroes or D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die. It has that uncanny creativity to it, that's consistently inconsistent. This isn't to say the game is perfect, running around the city can be…
