What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 201 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (4,101 of 4,957 positive).
Players praise the game for its massive card pool and nostalgic single-player campaigns. [1][2][3] Some reviewers criticize the poor user interface and slow, repetitive gameplay. [4][5][6] Many appreciate the lack of microtransactions and paywalls. [7][3][8]

Though the game tries to reinvigorate the classic Yugioh! feeling, the campaign quickly turns into solitaire. That the banlist isn't enforced during the whole campaign does not help this either. I could forgive this, since this isn't the video game's but rather the larger card game's structural fault. However, the game fundamentally does not respect your time. The booster pack rosters (314 cards per roster) are way …

I bought Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution for one reason: I’ve been rewatching the anime, and I wanted something that lets me play the story—especially the original Duel Monsters season. It absolutely delivered that “Saturday morning duel” feeling, and then some. This is basically a huge, playable Yu-Gi-Oh! museum: tons of duels across the anime eras, a massive card pool (10,000+ cards), and the …

Legacy Of The Duelist is an good game that is buried underneath attrocious UX. You can't bulk purchase booster packs. Can't restart battles without quitting to the story menu. Can't cancel most moves (I don't care if the rules forbid it, it's bad UX. This isn't a real comp, I'm playing a single player game against a bot). Everytime you start a duel the game flashbangs you just before throwing you into the duel, …

The greatest Yugioh game ever made. No gotcha systems just duel, win, and earn cards. No wallet needed after initial purchase to buy anything.

This game is perfect for someone who only reads the manga or watches the anime like me. Reliving the old days. No sweating, just build whatever deck I want and beat the bots.

Critics, per Wikipedia
Newsweek said "Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is a must-have for fans of the Yu-Gi-Oh! series who are itching to do some dueling. Putting it on the Switch was a brilliant move, because now you can play a match or two wherever you are". Kotaku said "There's plenty of fun stuff in Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution for competitive players. Ranked and unranked matches, local battles, and plenty of options for deck editing should keep them busy, and sealed play using Battle Packs sounds exciting".

It absolutely delivered that “Saturday morning duel” feeling, and then some. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is way, WAY better than it has any right to be, given how utterly lazy most of the presentation and structure truly is. What you're getting here is a series of pretty damn barebones visual novel-style recreations of the major story beats from the various YGO anime over the years that lead you into a huge selection of duels against decks built more or less off of the matches from those anime, as well as an equally huge selection of custom challenge decks you unlock throughout the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best thing I can say about this game is... it runs great on Steam Deck. And it's decent enough Single-Player experience of the game with Modern Rule-set. This game is just Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist, but with remade boss card animations all around and VRAINS anime saga added in. But guess what? They are still selling Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist. It's just more stuff added on top of what was already there. So this game could've been a DLC instead. It almost feels like a Flash game…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ohhh, I love this game. FINALLY found a 1-player game, with a MASSIVE amount of playable cards, that is NOT a roguelike deckbuilder. You don't have to constantly start from scratch! The main issue with this game is at the very beginning, it's extremely difficult to understand how cards group together, and how to build an effective deck. My advice.... just pick ONE species type (insect, machine, plant, rock, fiend, harpie, etc) and start putting just that 1 species type into a deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolution is an example of a game that is best not finished if you do not enjoy it. This entry takes a fun card game and makes it a slow experience that will waste your time in every way imaginable. Duels are slow, the graphics make the game look cheaply made, and the music is unremarkable. Duels are the worst part of this game, as the animations for summoning monsters, accepting or declining effects, and switching phases add up to a lot of time being…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its fun but oh my god having to say "no" to the game asking me if i want to use an effect every second of a duel makes me want to rip my hair out
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a reminder of what the game is suppose to be like... GoD (Gen 1) and GX (Gen 2) were the only times Yu-Gi-Yo was actually good. Almost no deck mining, no full deck plays in one turn, and certainly no 20 minutes of merging cards to merge cards to merge cards to link, sycro, tribute, link, XYZ summon some absurd 10 star card. A simple back and forth battle of themed decks.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can play all cards up to up to Ignition Assault, Mystic Fighters, Legendary Duelists: Magical Hero, Structure Deck: Shaddoll Showdown, and Duel Overload. The very last single-player Yu-Gi-Oh game ever released. Sad.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game so much. Granted, you will have to duel a lot to get enough DP for all the cards you want, but I'd rather deal with that than use real money for microtransactions. (looking at you Master Duel)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best Yugioh game out there right now. I wish they would update this game but they only care about their trash game "Master Duel" Master duel is a joke!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam is probably the best platform for gaming on Linux right now. Here are some games I recommend that run well on Linux: - Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (the spiritual successor of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night) - Romancing SaGa 3 (retro JRPG that involves non-linear, open-world exploration) - Octopath Traveler 2 (another JRPG; you don't need to play the first game in the series to enjoy this game) - Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolution (not a freemium game!)

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent yugioh game. But the game's UX is not very good, especially the deck builder menu and effect activation prompt settings

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good Card Game Simulator, very meh video game. Alright, allow me to explain. I've been a fan of the card game since the earliest days. I also really like the manga. Thing is, I don't really get to play the actual card game, for a few reasons. Money is the biggest one. I don't really want to sink dozens of bucks (minumum) into collecting cardboard until I have like one decent deck. I love the cards, the designs etc, but not that much. Second reason is the lack of opportunity to actually play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The penultimate single-player Yu-gi-oh experience. Play through the entire storyline as either player with story decks, or build your own. Extra fun if you play through it while watching the show
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is actually decent right up until the Vrains campaign from there onwards the game expiditiously hot doses itself with pervitin and strings together the most ludicrous link summon sequences imaginable. Reason and strategy are completely abandoned, you will be waiting 5 business days for the AI's turn to end, you will see more ludicrously luckily drawn cards than the exodia match, you will see the game openly ignore card affects regardless of card speed. Of course this can be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legacy of the Duelist Link Evolution is one of the better Yu-Gi-Oh games that delivers a solid single player experience. It covers all of the iconic duels from the anime and has a solid 6 seasons worth of content to work through and even offers reverse role duels once you beat it. There are thousands of cards to collect and nothing is locked behind a paywall of any kind unlike some of the newer games Konami has released. The deck builder while not the best I've ever experienced is still pretty…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game if you're searching for a good 1-player yugioh experience. You can get most cards in yugioh without paying more than the base game. You're not pressured to build the most meta decks, you can easily build weird decks and combos, and still have fun and win (tho only against cpus). A tipp for anyone struggling against the pop-ups of "want to activate the effects?". Press and hold the right key on your mouse, it will stop the pop-up to even show up. But remember to let go WHEN you do…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The UI is awful, who gave this an approval?! I wanted to play Yu Gi Oh because I really like the art style of the cards, but the way it's made you can barely see the cards, and even if you could, the UI is so bad that it makes the game feel super lame, I'm back to playing solitaire.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone whose TCG experience is like, 90% M:TG, the existence of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist games feels insane to me. 10,000+ cards and a fully featured singleplayer campaign alongside (now sadly non-functional) online? M:TG would *never* do something like that.
positive · AI labelView post →I should go to sleep but I've got a newfound enjoyment in Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist. そろそろ寝たほうがいいんだけど、『遊☆戯☆王 デュエリストの遺産』に新たな楽しみを見出してしまったんだ。
positive · AI labelView post →Good game, but it has annoying constant pop ups for if you want to activate a card. No game, i want to use my card later. Singleplayer gameplay pretty good, i recommend if you know nothing about playing yu-gi-oh- this game will teach you all the mechanics and basic knowledge. Online is dead, you either need a friend with the copy of the game or get lucky to find someone online (good luck with that lol) When it comes to getting cards, the whole process is pretty grindy- but i don't mind it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →9/10 Great game! This is the best Yu-Gi-Oh! single-player game you can play offline without worrying that Konami will shut down the servers. Even though Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links and Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel are the games people tend to prefer, it’s important to remember that those games require a constant internet connection. Otherwise, it would end up like Yu-Gi-Oh! Cross Duel. It’s great that you can relive the story modes from various Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series, but the story mode in Yu-Gi-Oh!…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yugioh Fan For Life and man does this game cure that itch when i want to play yugioh and have no one to play against. XD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After beating very campaign with story mode only deck (yet to beat all in reverse), if you are wanting to have the full yugioh experience without having to play master duel this is the best thing to play. Every Archetype pre 2020 is here to where you get to experience a lot of era's of yugioh seeing how it evolves from slowly playing a few monsters at a time to summoning 20 monsters in a single turn near the end. The only thing bad about this game is the online scene is pretty much dead so its…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Without question, the best game to play if you're just trying to learn how to play Yu-Gi-Oh I suggest players who are new to Yu-Gi-Oh play this first before trying Master Duel. I understand that the UI is a bit dated, and the card pool is kinda lacking compared to Master Duel's current format. However, I believe this game brings in the love of the lore brought by Duel Links and a format similar to Master Duel that lets new players dive deep and fall in love with the game AND its lore, and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely awful game. Using story decks you, just brick your hand constantly until you get lucky and win. Problem is, you'll be using story decks in the beginning. The entirety of the game is just RNG of your first hand.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels cheap and like the bare minimum for some reason. The CPU is really dumb. What makes this review positive is you can (could) get this game for 5 dollars and sort of learn modern YuGiOh or get into the card game at your own pace without feeling overwhelmed since you can select between generations to play. So if you're a Duel Monsters kind of guy (you like YuGiOh before it got "complicated) then you have alot of choices from Duelist Kingdom to Duel City to uh um idk man. If you were okay at…
