Playing A Void Hope was a truly saddening experience. Firstly, you've got the developers who made the Alwa games which are really, really good and solid, engaging both my brain and my reflexes equally, games with great presentation and content that were extremely satisfying to complete. A Void Hope dishes out presentation in spades. Amazing pixel art, wonderful soundtrack, from the first trailer it just oozed spades …

I don't want to be the negative review here but I can't recommend this game. Let's start with the positive: - Beautiful art style - Incredible soundtrack by Waveshaper which brought the game to my attention in the first place - Nice atmosphere and setting - Like that we play more than one character That being said: - The gameplay is boring, it's a platformer without a real challenge. The puzzles are only wait for the item to unlock and backtrack - The gun mechanism on controller (Steam Deck)…

I do not often write negative reviews, but in this case I'm making an exception. I am a fan of Elden Pixels other works, specifically the duo of Alwa's games, these have always struck me as exceptionally good examples of a Platformer done right. This is an exceptional example of a Platformer done incorrectly. The biggest sins this game commits is in having no interesting mechanics and a simple and boring story, that alone should disqualify it for purchase. But I will lay out all my…

A Void Hope is not your typical platformer. If you came here expecting challenging and/or satisfying platforming, you may be left disappointed. The platforming is serviceable but doesn’t evolve that much throughout the game. So… that must mean the game is mediocre, right? Well, not exactly. A Void Hope is something else, and shouldn’t be treated like your typical video game. In my opinion, the biggest draw this game has is it’s story and atmosphere. I’m one of those kinds of gamers who views…

A narrative adventure this is not. This is a story outline with block pushing puzzles and occasional cutscenes about a couple that aren't fleshed out enough to be real characters. How do characters know where to go? Or what their objectives are? They just do. It's not well explained. Why is the main character needed or even suitable to be used to find a cure? She just is. How did the husband get infected? How does anyone get infected? Who knows. Where is this child the entire time all of this…

Ok, maybe it isn't for me. Don't get me wrong, I really like the artstyle, story and atmosphere. It isn't a bad game. But there are just a few story peaces to discover as a memomry. It doesn't feel enough to get attached to the charakters. The enemies are really annoying, because they spawn directly in front of you and the gun controls are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow. I died too many times with no chance to fight it. And one of my most hated things is the ways that you have to go. You have to walk through…

Man, how is this game so well made, but also lacking ANYTHING interesting? I'm not a huge platforming fan- but I could tell this was underdeveloped almost immediately. The levels consist of gaining height by jumping up, finding doors to open, to open other doors, as you progress past monsters that telegraph themselves for a long time. I got about halfway through, and I'm done. There's no flavor text, environmental storytelling, or anything- in fact, most of the environments are VERY samey.…

A slightly non-linear sci-fi horror adventure that nails the 80s retro vibes. Maybe a bit simple (especially considering these are the folks that made the Alwa games), but i enjoyed the spooky brevity. Killer synthwave soundtrack.

here's a little fact about me: I playtested two commercial games. First was Alwa's Awakening The 8-Bit Edition, you can find my name on Elden Pixels' website. Second was A Void Hope from the same company, you can find my name in the in-game credits. I think I did good on that last one. FACT OVER.

Narrative platformer Steam Deck: Playable - although the page and dev says Verified, it only worked correctly for me after changing the resolution to 720. At higher resolutions part of the dialog window would remain on the screen full time (at first I thought it might be a stamina or health meter) With this game, the creators of the Alwa games bring their platforming engine much more narrative. The result a desolate and lonely experience, which is both its greatest strength and weakness. In…

This is a highly enjoyable pixel-art style puzzle platformer with metroidvania elements (in the form of map areas that can only be opened after additional equipment has been found in other maps), let down by appallingly clumsy aiming against most enemies (with mouse and keyboard), and a plot that..................wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll............is just simply not really explained. I had no heard of this Elden Pixel game before, but I love their games, so I gave it a go. A game where people are losing their memories and becoming monsters. The heroes travel through the city, one trying to remember and one trying to find a cure. Like most Elden Pixel games, it's a bit of a vania and you never know who is going to turn into a monster and sometimes you don't even know which monster they'll be. The more dog like are quick, but you can jump over them, others fly and are the…

It’s a simple pixel platformer focused on jumping and climbing with a sad family story. It took me an hour to get almost to the end. There are several areas but they are similar, once you’ve played the first one you’ve seen everything, just shooting switches and zombies and doing more climbing up and down. I played as far as I could but eventually the only path led to a dead end with a panel showing locks. I assume it's a hint to go back and replay previous levels but I had no interest. The…

Fields of Mistria is easily my GOTY. I mean, what else is there? Froggo's Adventure: Verdant Venture? I mean, that's a good game... or A Void Hope? Pretty unique, I suppose. Or Selaco? It seems decent. Or Songs of Conquest? Well, I haven't played that yet... Or... or... actually, nothing else.

Let me preface this review with saying that I did receive this game for free, but otherwise received no other compensation for playing it. Genuinely I have nothing bad to say about this game. I loved a lot about it and I felt like the platforming, story building, and progression were all really well paced. As someone who typically really struggles with a game if there isn't an actual map of some sort in place, the game was very intuitive in it's design. The puzzles and map was streamlined…

A Void Hope is an OK puzzle platformer, which did keep me entertained enough to finish it, but this game does not really offer anything special. The visuals and the soundtrack are great and the platforming is decent, but the story is pretty shallow and disappointing. Also, I could have done without the enemy encounters -- they're not hard or frustrating, but I felt that they were more of a nuisance. Recommended. A brief 2D puzzle platformer about a memory plague where friendly NPCs and hostile ones look identical until they move, and the soundtrack carries a neon melancholy that never slips. Every district's tool (crowbar, keycard, rope, fuel siphon, shotgun) unlocks progress somewhere already visited, shortcuts keep returns painless, and hidden memory vignettes build the couple's story toward a finale that inverts the rescue. The grey-versus-blue art direction quietly reinforces the…

Surprisingly high quality, well above the average for a small/solo studio. Pixel art does a great job creating mood, joined by a legit synthwave soundtrack. The game, and story within, is well paced and evocative. Minor issues are the scrolling being a little jank (it tends to become jerky every so often instead of staying smooth) and the difficulty being a little low, which could just as easily be a good thing. (To explain, it's easy to buy into the atmospheric tension the game creates…

A Void Hope is a haunting and emotionally driven adventure that demonstrates how atmosphere and storytelling can carry an experience even when the gameplay itself remains relatively simple. Developed and published by Elden Pixels, the game abandons the colorful fantasy style many players may associate with the studio’s earlier projects and instead embraces a bleak dystopian world consumed by fear, disease, and mysterious shadow-like entities. The result is a slow-paced but deeply immersive…
