What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 262 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (4,966 of 5,819 positive).
Many players praise the fast-paced gunplay and atmosphere, calling it a solid roguelite. [1][2][3][4] Some reviewers note the game feels incomplete or repetitive, with balance and progression issues. [5][6][7][8] Several players criticize a recent update that nerfed fun elements, though devs are addressing it. [1][9][10][11]

One of the sadder "Not Recommends" for me. I think there is so much good and so much future potential for this game, but it feels like an "Early Access" title in disguise as a full release. Bugs are plenty - from weird UI elements like timers that don't move, to health bar desyncs, to being forced to sprint into a wall. And they aren't the kind you can ignore, they actively hinder your experience. Outside of bugs, …

Leaving a positive review to counter the dweebs who think review tanking is the way to go because the devs made a mistake (to a lot of people) with a new update. The devs have already addressed the changes and will be fixing/reverting. Stop trying to ruin an indie game/company's rep, especially during a summer sale where people are going to look at this. Game is easily worth 15 dollars. Smooth movement, fun gunplay, …

There's so much to like about this game -- the eerie underwater tomb atmosphere, the creative enemy and boss designs, the tight gunplay -- but I've rarely seen a better game get in its own way as much as this one. The balance and progression are terrible. This is a tough game that gets tougher each level you progress, which is fine and what I'd prefer, except the difficulty jumps are extreme. Those late bosses are …

Speaking from the perspective of somebody who did not own this game until 1.3, I am having an absolute blast. Looks like some people had issues with the update and that is the reason for the recent mixed reviews If you enjoy roguelite games and are on the fence, just get it. The game is incredibly fun and you can make some absolutely ridiculous builds. Blessings in the game provide a lot of depth and weapons are …

Solid game. It's like if DOOM Eternal was a roguelite. The guns are excellent, the action is fast paced. The bossfights are more of a mixed bag, some are good but some are kind of annoying as they spam a ton of effects everywhere. This leads to me attempting to stat-check them a lot instead of engaging with the mechanics. I've had a blast over these 30 hours and I expect to get around 20 more out of the game before …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well the game was great up to the 1.2 update but with the release of 1.3 basically ruining the soulwheel, relocking my already unlocked items for completing achievements and my dlc items that I already purchased, on top adding no new sense of progression, I would recommend you wait to purchase this game until a better update releases or spend your $25 elsewhere. It pains me to say that because I loved playing this game with my girlfriend but it has fallen far from my expectations.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So. I've played and played this game, its great. love the art style, love the responsiveness of most things. However. there's about 3 things I actively dislike, number 1. the elements aren't balanced in the slightest, you can play whatever you want, as long as you're on base difficulty. as soon as you go up in difficulty, drop out all the fun stuff you were doing, and you'd better grab those % damage stuff, cuz chain lightning isn't going to help you at all. You need to go grab the boring…

neutral · AI labelView post →This is hard for me to give a negative review since overall I have enjoyed the game but I have to echo the sentiments of many of the other reviews. There game overall feels incomplete and repetitive, especially for a game that is over $30. Gunfire Reborn is a very similar game but in that it's repetitive (same bosses, same biomes over and over) but the variety in the builds is more satisfying. I'd pick this one up on sale but not pay full price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could totally recommend it. But let me get straight to the point — it still needs polishing. The gameplay loop feels boring and repetitive. This game offers you eight guns, of which only two or three are usable in the endgame on max difficulty. Blessings are cool, but the reroll mechanic doesn’t work properly. Sometimes I reroll three or four times and still get the same two options — at this point, it doesn’t even feel like RNG, just broken. Let’s not start talking about the charms —…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game should be listed as Early Access, not a full release. Barely any content for a roguelike.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kind of a poor man's Roboquest. It basically does everything Roboquest does but a little worse. But that doesn't mean it isn't good in its own right. The gunplay feels good and it has a nice aesthetic. I will say it's a little barebones as far as content goes and the runs can get repetitive- but it's a solid 7.5 out of 10 for me. Worth a dive into it you enjoy FPS Roguelites.

You start understanding the move-and-shoot thing and it feels great. <3 ~After 2 hours you feel like this game is insanely cool and that the build variety is genuinely so fun to do. ~After 8 hours you realize that the secrets of this game are really fun despite not being too complex. ~After 20 hours you wish this game had more content... and after the 25th hour you will keep playing only to enjoy the different monstruosities you are able to cook.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The unit bullshittery going on in this meme is frying my brain. I need a nap. If I can stay awake long enough maybe I can work out how this works. My PC burns around 500Wh under load, so the time I just spent playing Abyssus was burning about 3 GPT searches a minute, by that estimation. It's still much less than 30, and I can probably figure whatever I'm looking for in much less than that, but still. I wonder if it's supposed to be better or worse if I decide to burn all that at home by…

neutral · AI labelView post →Overall, the game is decent, but it gets pretty boring after 3-4 full runs. The locations feel empty, with very little content. The vault keys issue is particularly confusing: keys are found quite often, while vaults are quite rare.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ive never written a review before. This game has so much optimization issues its not funny. I have a 3090 and this game was skipping all over the place. It got recommended to me and looked good, so i gave it a try. I was super disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The games alright, i feel like the atmosphere is really awesome. The enemies dont really feel that fun to fight. I think if they improved the variety and also the way they fight as well as the feel of gunplay then its gonna be a fantastic game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, I may have wrote a song for a game I have been playing. The game is Abyssus, the song? "Iron, Steam and Brine". Want to hear it?
neutral · AI labelView post →At the moment I can not recommend this game because the (boss) AI has no logic. Always tracks one player and the rest of the team isn't targetted. Whatever the logic is, it's too monotone. For a multiplayer game it's a big oversight. AI should periodically re-target, with logic to prevent changing target in the middle of a charged move targeting player A but then executing player B. Further the game is way too easy for roguelite. Even tho it doesn't seem to scale the mob counts with player…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now hear me out I really do enjoy this game. I loved the difficulty, the performance was great, you can play it OFFLINE, no game breaking bugs, and I had no issues with the controls. It basically does everything so right that other Indie Devs are probably pissed at them for raising the bar so high... BUT there's just a huge lack of replayability... in a roguelite. A lack of content is one thing but right now there's so little content variety that even if the difficulty scaling wasn't so bad…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks for making game that is good and for the price that is affordable. What more can i say. Well Done.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can absolutely 100% recommend Abyssus. I have enjoyed every single moment I've played, even when I was frustrated and annoyed at learning the boss' movesets. Each gun has it's own unique playstyle, and for the most part was enjoyable. Except the shotgun...it suffered from the generic "Video Game Shotgun" syndrome of the spread vanishing because you were a step too far away. I've just completed 100% of the challenges and unlocked the Admiral, but I have a few weapon mods to choose to fully…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of recent negative reviews are upset at the skill tree rework, however the developers have announced they're working on completely reverting the controversial changes based on community feedback. Kudos to them for understanding what ultimately matters when making this type of game (it being FUN), and being willing to walk back decisions that ended up being misses instead of doubling down. Game's good, try it out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Isn't it great when developers nerf all of the fun out of their PvE game? The new soul wheel skill tree is a downgrade in every way. The devs listened and are fixing this!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was good until the update. The update absolutely ruined the game. You literally just flat-out nerfed the skill tree. There is nothing positive about this update besides the new area, everything else is just a flat-out nerf.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I highly enjoy Abyssus and truly got excited to play this gem, especially since I had played the demo a year ago and absolutely enjoyed it. Immediately fell in love with the nautical setting, the gameplay speed, and the variety of enemies and their patterns. Normally, I'm like: "Give me a gun and fast-paced gameplay, and I’m going to have fun forever", but as soon as I dove deeper into the elemental combinations and discovered some really broken builds that melted every room, Abyssus truly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fantastic however it suffers a critical problem with its co-op core. it makes exactly zero effort to help anyone find any party that isnt one of the people that recently finished a run and is afking in their lobby. I find a 1 in 4 chance at jumping into a lobby and being able to play with them. The pre-run lobby limbo hip hop game demotivates from moving from run to run.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Writing this after having just completed brine level 30. The difficulty of the game goes up indefinitely, but it treats this amount as the true "final" difficulty level so I feel like I have some amount of authority to give a review. This game is incredible. Up to four player co-op and at $25 is a steal. Going back to other FPS games after playing it will make you feel like you're in slow motion. The only complaint I have is that the rouge-like elements hold the game back in fairly major…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who plays a lot of these types of roguelike fps shooters, I came into this expecting what i normally get from them. Variety throughout weapons, upgrades and modifiers that keep the game fresh. This game absolutely blew my expectations away. The art direction of the game is absolutely beautiful, the first few runs feel really good and its fun to test out the wide variety of weapons and abilities the game provides. The upgrades feel good and impactful which is super important for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Deadzone Rogue but worse. I played a few hours and it was so repetitive. Not enough weapons, not enough mods, only a few builds really. Just felt half cooked.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game that has Risk of Rain 2 vibes and is a lot of fun. Unfortunately, there are hardly any public lobbies, so without friends, you won't be able to play much multiplayer. The game itself also has a few bugs, some less annoying and some really game-breaking. For example, the final boss doesn't trigger. You stand in his arena and nothing happens, so you have to kill yourself. That's anoying. Otherwise, it's fun. I played through it for twelve hours right after buying it.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🔰SHREDVIEW🔰 - From someone who actually plays and finishes the games before reviewing. 🔷 ABOUT THE GAME & LORE 🔷 In the world of underwater tom-foolery, we find Abyssus. A modestly honest and user friendly Roguelike FPS title which is awaiting more drowning enthusiasts to the teeth-grinding olympics. How much repetitive chaos do you want with those sunken hours? Yes, please! The story of the game is not really that relevant, typical to the genre. Lore entries are scattered around the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#2099Spoilers Abyssus and Mephisto make a game of their respective battles for survival. Spider-Man 3099 switches sides but that costume still looks hideous to me. I thought the fight between Red Hulks was amazing! I hope if this is actually the end of 2099 it's just Orlando's and not the original.
neutral · AI labelView post →Good game to play with friends, thought it was a mindless shooter at the start but after i got to higher deep it become a real challenge The only thing i dont like about this game is the gun roster is kinda lacking and game will become a little repetitive after a while becuz all of the boss room look the same and the normal room variable not many either, hope game will add more guns more blessing with more room variable in the future
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this for $20 when it first launched. I played a bunch, then put it down until recently with the cross-play update. I was already super happy and satisfied with what I had for 20 bucks, but they added a bunch of content and its such a fun time. If you like Gunfire Reborn, Bioshock 1&2 (we don't talk about 3) and lots of weapon loadout combinations you've chosen the right diving bell.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10 hours in and can’t wait to play more. If you liked RoboQuest, welcome home. It is very much a similar game but done differently in its own way. For those who say the bosses or objectives are too hard, I disagree. Level up more, and get better. I’ve enjoyed the difficult progression. I am on the third boss now. Update: Finished the final boss. A couple of more guns to unlock, and some end game difficulty mechanics yet to mess around with. Lots of replayability ahead. Looking forward to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easy to learn, hard to master. I don't think it's too particularly difficult now that I've beaten true ending, but I keep finding myself wanting to dive back in for just one more run ...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game WAS so fun, and felt great. Several updates ago the difficulty just became asinine. I play roguelites/roguelikes religiously and I have no clue what they did to just make it impossible levels of difficulty unless you run the dev's favorite combination of blessings and weapons. It isn't unplayable don't get me wrong, but I think its so much worse that its playable but wholly unenjoyable. Nothing worse then something still living and breathing but so helplessly different that you'll…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey cool game, can You make enemies less spongie after adding endgame modifiers, it' s not fun ;c Until then game is fun to play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game exists in a weird space where it's not quite bad, but it isn't quite good, and ultimately if you make a game that's almost identical but slightly worse than existing entries in the genre, I gotta downvote even if, in a vacuum, the game is respectable. Just play Hades or Gunfire Reborn or Deadzone Rogue. The only really interesting and new idea in this game is the way that upgrades get tied to your weapon (So you commit to having a Fire Grenade and then every Fire upgrade is applied to your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a solid little game, maybe not something you'll play forever, but what's there is a thoroughly good time. And visually this game has some amazing things happening, It is rare for me to be blown away by art direction
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly. I think this is one of the best rouge-likes of this decade. Fast-paced, fun builds, great weapons, good bosses. Cant complain about anything else than it's too short ;) It's an EASY buy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels unfinished and gets repetitive fast. You have to run the same areas every run, like Hades. Clunky, feels like early access. Doesn't look great. Get Witchfire and Deadzone Rogue, then if you REALLY want another "roguelike FPS" I guess grab this one but it's not on the same level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abyssus is a great co-op roguelike FPS that's well worth getting if you enjoy roguelikes Plus, it runs well on the #SteamDeck: A copy was provided by The Arcade Crew for review. steamdeckhq.com/game-reviews...
positive · AI labelView post →Surpirisingly fun and complex game....until you crank up the difficulty with brine... Then it just becomes "you use one build and one build only to scale up" type of deal.. So 95% of the upgrades you get are fun but not useful. Shame, really. I would have liked to use more builds than one. But, apart from the balance issues the gameplay loop is very addicting and with a friend it's a blast to play. Finding all the damn secrets is a pain in the butt tho. You can't know which rooms you have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game i absolutely loved, as seen above i have a few hours in the game and beat just about all of it. i was so excited to play the new update and after seeing the skill tree butchered i have no desire to play now. the skill tree added ( in my opinion) the only way to make some builds viable, and taking it away as a "rework" isnt helping or making the game more replayable. They took away the fun of being able to become a god in the game. if people wanted to limit the skills on there own…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, it's a blast, especially with a friend or two (the more the merrier), though it's still fun solo. Every weapon is viable as long as you pair it with the right blessing, and usually multiple blessings work well for any given weapon choice, so there are tons of satisfying weapon/ability and blessing combos to discover. My one complaint is that the main way to get really powerful builds seems to be going all in on a single blessing and ignoring the rest (unless you're in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game full of so many legitimate "This is BS!" and "The devs need to learn to tune bosses." moments where you or your team fail, take a cigarette break, then look at each other and say, "Go again?" At Deep sea 30 you'll hate every second you play as you'll constantly be role playing the underpowered victim. But you'll keep coming back.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not enjoy the gameplay and the early stats you can improve has very little affect on gameplay. Maybe the game is balanced on co-op also trying to make stats effect gameplay to a minimum.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a good game here struggling to get out and it's not worth the price of entry. I've no doubt that it's fun once things get going, and you have a bunch of unlocks. But the starting experience is rough, and there are way more 4 player co-op games than there were a few years ago, and most of them are actively trying to do something different plus are fun from the get-go. The boss fights here are okay, but quite punishing when you're starting out, and healing is extremely scarce! Play it…
