What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 246 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (10,080 of 16,069 positive).
Some players note the remaster introduces bugs and worse character models compared to the original. [1][2][3]

I love this game, but it's getting a negative review as long as the unnecessary, redundant, and annoying Ubisoft Connect launcher is mandated. Doesn't need to be associated with the game at all, and it detracts from my experience.

That was a lot but I finally got all the achievements. I'll go over this by game. AC3R: First off, I loved the original it is my favorite of the franchise, the story was amazing, Connor and Haytham were some off my favorite. That being said this remaster sucks ass. The characters look like a bunch of clay models whose eyes are just one squeeze away from popping out. The lighting got ruined everything is so much more …

Assassin's Creed III Remastered is one of the most underrated games in the franchise. It may not reach the heights of the Ezio trilogy, but it tells a darker, more grounded story that deserves far more credit than it gets. Connor is often criticized for being less charismatic than Ezio, but that's exactly what makes him interesting. He's driven by duty rather than charm, and his determination fits the harsh reality …

This is one of the best AC games I like to revisit before Ubisoft turned the series into Witcher 3 clones. However, this game has a SIX HOUR INTRO.... which almost makes me want to abandon it before I remember how much fun it is to play the game as Connor. It's a shame they didn't make more games with him as the main character. Overall I'd give it a 6 or 7/10. That marathon intro alone knocks off at least a full …

Ubisoft, listen! Bundle the original Assassin's Creed III & Liberation HD with Assassin's Creed III Remastered - because number 1, the character models and their faces looks horrible and creepy most of the time, hence, the enhanced visuals has succeeded in delivering worse experience than the orignal! Number 2, we can no longer buy the original AC 3 since you delisted that game years ago! And 3rd, the remastered …

62% of the 246 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Assassin's Creed® III Remastered. The complaint that keeps coming up: very long prologue delays the main gameplay. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

60 of 265 · most liked firstThis game has a bug that makes it almost impossible to 100% without prior knowledge. In the mission dead chest treasure there is a full sync objective requiring the player to running assassinate 3 enemies. In the original game this was an easy requirement and was not even the most difficult part of the mission (not that the mission was ever particularly difficult). In the remaster however the devs have implemented a bug that makes 2 enemies immune to assassinations (idk how this works but I’m…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →During the winter steam sale, I decided I wanted to play all Assassin's Creed games. I played Black Flag back in like 2015 so figured I would get every game up to that. Assassin's Creed: Pretty basic, good introduction to the series. Didn't care about Desmond and Altair's decision at the end baffled me but was cleared up by Revelations. Was thankful Steam did not have achievements because I did not want to do the collectathon without maps. Assassin's Creed II: Rounded out the game, made it more…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you are playing this game after playing orginal ac 3 then the controls are different for some reason, face models are not good at all. you need to install a good ton of mods to make the game better and it is locked at 60fps
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft Connect is unnecessary and annoying. If you buy one of their games bundled with another. You have to launch and connect the game from the primary purchase first. It's just dumb and every time I've had to encounter Ubisoft's extra software, I want to buy their games less and less. Even now, I just wait until the games are an extreme deal so I'll hassle with it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A remaster so lazy only ubisoft is capable of doing it. Additionally, if you bought this game using the bundle from AC Odyssey, you gotta download and install Odyssey first before you can verify the ownership of this game because that's just common sense from Ubisoft.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft Connect is UNBEARABLE! Ubisoft please fix your mess. ALSO the original game had bugs but this is SOMEHOW worse.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the game is great and I love it so far (first time AC player) I'm saying no due to Ubisoft's awful launcher. Usually, I don't care but with this game I received it from my purchase of AC Odyssey. The major issue is, this game WILL NOT activate in the Ubisoft launcher without first fully downloading Odyssey and launching it. Ubisoft Connect (or Ubisoft in general) gives zero information about this. Just beware of activation issues if you get this game through Odyssey.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got it as bundle with AC Odyssey. Linked my account with ubisoft connect but it did not registered the games. Way too much effort ust to play a single player game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This "remaster" is awful. The only reason I considered it was because the original version was broken for me. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for people who never owned it and now can't get it. I'm not sure if they are new or old bugs, but it's completely bug filled, especially music related ones. Looping viewpoint music, combat music that gets louder each time you get into combat. Subtitles that turn themselves on and off whenever they want, even if you turn them off in the settings…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought Assassin's Creed III Remastered mainly because of nostalgia. I spent countless hours playing the original version on Xbox 360, and I was excited to experience it again. Unfortunately, the remaster left me disappointed. The game still suffers from various bugs, including animation glitches, strange NPC behavior, and occasional mission issues. While the visuals are improved in some areas, many old problems remain. The gameplay also feels clunky and outdated compared to modern titles.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A legendary historical epic trapped inside a broken, deeply frustrating "remaster" that honestly breaks more than it fixes. When it launched in 2012, the original Assassin's Creed III split the fanbase, but time had actually been quite kind to Connor Kenway’s brutal, heavy-hitting frontier saga. Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed III Remastered manages to fumble that legacy by being an absolute technical mess on modern hardware. While the marketing promised a definitive 4K overhaul, the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get Rid of the UbiSlop Connect Launcher It's not needed! Assassin’s Creed III Remastered remains one of the more curious releases in the franchise, largely because the original game never really needed a remaster. Assassin’s Creed III already held up reasonably well for its age, both mechanically and visually, and while it certainly had pacing issues, its ambition and scope were never in doubt. The remastered edition doesn’t radically improve that foundation, and in some areas it arguably…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This will probably be quite biased since it was the first main Assassin’s Creed I ever got as a kid, but this will likely always be my favorite AC. I love everything about this game, whether it’s the open world, the story, the main character, the combat, the music, or the naval battles. This is where I truly became a fan of the series. For many people, it might not be the best entry in terms of quality, but I’ll always gladly come back to it. Connor might be a bit of a grump, but I like how…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was nice to see AC3 again but it's a poor remaster where everyone looks like they're made out of wax and all the glitches are still there. My favorite was during the Valley Forge stealth mission in Tyranny of King Washington one of the checkpoints starts you off already detected by a firing squad, causing you to fail the mission right away. So your only recourse is to restart the mission if you get detected past that point.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had mixed reviews on original release, thought remastered would solve some of those things. Honestly the game just has not aged well, and after 12 hours of giving it an earnest try, I can't bring myself to continue. Long term franchise fans will likely find it nostalgic. Personally it felt like being expected to undergo a humiliation ritual in the name of brand loyalty.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Getting the Remastered versions through the Odyssey Season Pass is a great deal, but playing them reveals a mixed bag of quality. Assassin’s Creed 3 features a story that feels like a long wind-up only to end up lacking by the finale, and even years later, it is still surprisingly buggy. The parkour system feels clunky and inconsistent, though the addition of tree parkour is a genuine highlight. While the Homestead missions are a great addition that adds heart to the game, the AI is incredibly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a person who has 100% completed this game, loves the Ac series and also hates Ubisoft, I can confidently say that this is by far the worst achievement hunting experience in my life. Pros: -The homestead mission were very good and gave a new light for Connor -The gameplay is a clear improvement from the Ezio trilogy -The game is beauitful in some areas -The introduction of tree/rock parkour -Setting the start for the naval combat for Ac 4 Cons (get prepared) -Countless Npcs refusing to walk…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do NOT buy this game. It is free with the gold edition of Assassin's Creed Odyssey (which you can have for around 20€ when it's on sales) and there is a reason why this game is free with that bundle. My honest opinion (and i will share solutions for bugged missions at the end of this) : Oh boy, i didn't even want to write down a review for this game because i don't judge it worth my time but after 38 hours in the game now, countless bugs, bad AI, inconsistency issues and some more i think…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Original Player achievement in Assassins Creed 3 Remastered is the hardest I've ever gotten in my life... It consists of three tasks. But only two are a real challenge. You have to win against Achilles in the ancient Madagaskar board game Fanorona. It's extremely difficult. Because Achilles doesn't make mistakes. His style of play is perfect. The second task is to beat Oliver in the 3000 years old game of Nine Men's Morris. I thought I was going crazy and that I would give up when I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Assassin’s Creed III is, hands down, the best story Ubisoft has ever told. Connor’s journey is heavy, grounded, and unapologetically tragic, and the way the game challenges ideas of freedom, loyalty, and revolution still hits harder than any other entry in the series. Haytham alone makes this narrative unforgettable. While Black Flag is my technical favorite with deeper systems and pirate gameplay, Assassin’s Creed 3 laid the foundation by introducing naval combat, which was one of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is essentially how NOT to do a remaster. Bugs present in the original game are still present, PLUS some new ones. Things like weird hitboxes for freerunning and enemies who seem to spot you instantly make this a very frustrating experience more than anything else. A lot of the problems are issues the original game had, but you would hope a remaster might touch up a few little things here and there. Not so here. Shameless cashgrab.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played the original version back when it came out in 2012. Picked up the remaster on steam to relive that same feeling again. A very good game with a solid protagonist; Connor. In my opinion, this AC has the best and coolest combat out of all AC's... even to this day. The only thing that i kinda forgot about, was how insanely long the prologue is. Literally 5 out of the 12 sequences, you play as Haytham and as Young Connor. That burned me a bit. Didnt realise that half the game is a tutorial.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing ac 1, ac 2, brotherhood, revelations, this is my most favorite of them all my num 1 game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing this game after the Ezio trilogy to finish the story felt terrible. The whole game you’re getting teleported left and right. You don’t even know what’s happening, and BOOM — you’re teleported into the middle of a fight and you don’t know how you got there, or why, or who or what you’re fighting for. The most important fight you didn’t even do; you just got a cutscene of killing the last enemy. The whole game they were saying “he is guarded by thousands of soldiers,” and then BOOM —…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 5th Assassins Creed game that I have played now. I really like Connors combat ability. He makes you feel strong and the addition of parkour through trees and windows added an extra level of fluidity I enjoyed. I didn't have any game-breaking issues with bugs whilst playing, though at times I did encounter the occasional jiggle of a dead enemy, or late loading times for certain locations/assets. Overall though, I enjoyed the story and the tone this one struck. It felt more visceral and I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 AC3 is a beautiful game with a really compelling story that unfortunately kicks in far too late. There is a lot to love about this game. Everything from Boston to the Frontier wilderness was designed with such incredible detail that it was hard to not be immersed by it all. Connor's story was the highlight of the game for me, even if it only really got going in the last half of the game. AC3 has all the qualities of a great AC game while also adding some new features that are simply…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People seem to be disliking this game on the internets, but I just can't see it. The game is a very good classic Assassin's Creed game. Genuinely good story with American Revolution as a backdrop. Great, fleshed out characters, very good, at times pretty cerebral, dialogue. Very impactful cut scenes, with top notch voice acting. Mechanics has been upgraded and expanded since Ezio trilogy and you now have much bigger arsenal of methods in your disposal to achieve your goals. There is hunting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this. I really did. Connor deserved better and so did I. The remaster slaps a coat of paint on a game that needed more than a facelift, it needed therapy. The first few hours feel like a chores simulator where you unlock more chores. Combat is fine, the frontier is genuinely cool and the naval sections absolutely slap. But then the story decides to exist and suddenly you're back staring at loading screens wondering what you did wrong. Play it if you're a completionist or catch…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The remaster boasts improved graphics, with cleaner visuals, enhanced lighting, and 4K resolution support. However, the upgrade is inconsistent; character models and animations can appear outdated, and some areas lack full modernization. AC III Remastered retains the original's open-world action-stealth gameplay, with satisfying parkour and combat. Hunting, naval battles, and exploration add variety, though their engagement level is debated. Refinements like an updated HUD aim to modernize…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remembered AC3 more fondly than it actually plays today. I genuinely loved this game back in the day, so returning to it after just finishing AC: Odyssey felt surprisingly refreshing — finally playing an actual assassin again instead of a full‑time demigod. After completing the base game to 100%, though, I’m left with mixed feelings. The American Revolution setting still creates a great atmosphere, and the combat is stylish enough to make you feel cool even when enemies politely wait their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS. It does not look better, it looks worse. The eyes alone are a horrorshow. Bugs, not gamebreaking, but worse than the non-remastered Version. Cashgrab. DO NOT BUY.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great. but ubisoft remaster made it like ♥♥♥♥ it is buged not playble.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AC3 Remastered is a tough one to call. Kicking off the Kenway saga with new technologies, graphics, protagonist and many more additions was always going to be difficult to pull off. The result is what I would call a deeply flawed masterpiece. Something that could have been amazing but falters on its way up the stairs to greatness and bloodies it's knees many times. There's so much to like and yet so much to infuriate. (some of those full-sync objectives are absolutely ridiculous) The outcome…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having 100% on both Assassin's Creed III and Liberation was not a great experience. But that comes from a completionist point of view. As a game, with its story, visuals, combat and mechanics it's improved a lot from the previous entries. Especially parkour and combat with their fresh animaitions looked stunning, unless you were at the Frontier, where terrain looked less than good thanks to low LOD. This was my first time playing LIberation as well, and at it's core, it's a good game. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 50+ hours of parkour, tomahawks, and awkward horse controls, I can say one thing — the history of the American Revolution in this game is fantastic. You’ll meet legendary figures, sneak through famous battles, and realize history class would’ve been way cooler with hidden blades. I’ve experienced a small amount of bugs here and there — nothing special, just the usual `hidden caravan` or moments that make you smile more than rage. I seriously recommend anyone playing to read a bit about…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is buggy and way too easy
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →had to make a ubisoft account to play the game and ubisoft is so ass i couldnt even make my account
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a great time. The updated visuals look really nice, brighter, sharper, and the frontier especially looks gorgeous in motion. It’s still got that classic Assassin’s Creed feel, with satisfying stealth kills, cool parkour moments, and some awesome historical set pieces. Yeah, some missions are a bit dated and the controls can be stiff, but once you get into it, it’s super engaging. Overall, I really enjoyed revisiting this one. The remaster gives it a fresh coat of paint without losing what…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks awful. They completely ruined the look of the original. The characters look so bad I don't know if I should laugh or cry whenever they're on screen. Takes me out of the story entirely.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MY HONEST RATING 8/10 (Good game) AC3 got a lot of hate, but I don’t know I really enjoyed it. I loved the old American setting, the Redcoats, the wooden docks, and everything around it. The story is also pretty solid, especially if you’ve been following the series since AC1.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →meh, has so many glitches compared to og, somehow feels worse movement wise, and overall gameplay and story is just alright... it has its highs and lows 6/10, og 7/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating: Hard Neutral Ah Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered, this is not a game. TLDR: This feels like I am raising a kid, having twin boys and a daughter, and they all left me in the end to pave their own ways... (Figuratively). Note: This is a long ass review. Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered (AC3R) is a big chunk, and I meant it. AC3R was obtained free via the purchase of AC Odyssey on steam. This series is made up of the main story, three medium sized DLCs showing an alternate perspective and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →awful remaster for an already awful game, feel free to just skip over this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review is not about the main game Assassin's creeed 3 Remastered, but about its sub game Assassin's creed 3 Liberation HD Remastered. Once starting the 8th sequence in New York, the game constantly crashes and makes the save file unable to be played for the other actions of the game due to an auto-save happening directly when the sequence starts. I have tried disabling the overlay, disabling cpu 0, running it with administrator permission, disabling full screen complexity, reducing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Age has not been kind to Assassin's Creed 3, though the backlash the remaster is getting is out of hand. There's the usual fluff regarding the main game: you will get intensely frustrated at the amount of tailing missions, lack of places to parkour on and a surprisingly shallow main character. The very hard optional objectives will keep taunting you for missing them, even when they're insanely difficult and practically impossible to get on the first go. For some obnoxious reason, they went…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having played through the first couple of games I have to say I liked the story still in ac3 even though I heard a lot of complains about it. The biggest thing that I was really frustrating was the ungodly amount of bugs in this game compared to previous games. Things not showing up on the map even though not in fog. People randomly disappearing. People straight up floating or inside a wall. There was several times I had to restart just because an npc got stuck in wall somewhere. The lock on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, I finally completed this great story of Connor Canway, who was born in such important for world times: American Revolution. First of all, strong part of this game if not even the strongest is ambience. During the playthrough I caught a vide of RDR2, and it wasn't coincidence, because developers of it in the future will create this incredible game. I really love RDR2, and it was really a pleasure to feel some vibes from it. I really like how the environment changed from summer to snow,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a nice game, the fighting is much improved over the previous editions, but I can't get over the fact that Haytham Kenway is a much more interesting and likeable character than Connor, who is just......a brat. There's little to like about Connor, he spends the entire game complaining and threatening people. Not like Ezio, who was charming and deadly. So yeah, play the game and enjoy it (the sailing sequences are really good fun), but don't invest yourself in Connor because he ain't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Assassin's Creed III Remastered has pros and cons. The game itself has a great story and an amazing open world. The frontier is awesome, and Boston/New York is also great to discover. The story is raw and engaging. Connor is a menace and has the most brutal finishing moves. The soundtrack is top-notch. It is definitely an underrated entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise. It also contains Assassin's Creed Liberation, which is a fun spin-off game. The remaster aspect of the game is sadly…
