Addictive & poorly balanced. Fun until platinum-rank & then the rank-clamping kicks in. Winning isn't good enough anymore, you have to dominate, usually against cookie-cutters following build guides. Many of whom lack an understanding of basic game mechanics & likely never will, by choice. Balancing is questionable at best, focusing too much on buffs (thus causing power creep.) With little-to-no consideration for …

This game is so fun and satisfying to play. As a dad of two young children, it's a great game to play since it has async battles and I can get up and do things while playing. The art and sound effects are amazing. One feature I'd like to see is a key to press that temporarily hides or fades out all the items in your backpack so that you can view all your bags and hover over your bags. There are times where it's hard …

If you are choosing between THIS GAME and Bazaar, Turnbound and other autobattlers, choose this one without any doubt Amount of ways this game allows you to be creative and have fun is endless. Very deep and strategic, but never boring

I love this game. I love getting +0 ranking points for going 9/5 and getting -10 points for going 5/5. I love this game. I love making a whole build fishing for one item which I get to gather reagents for right before I lose my last life. I love this game. I love losing to a 3000 armor engineers. I love this game. I love making up tens of builds just to fall back to food necromancer. I love this game. I really do. …

Addicting gameplay loop but I'd play this game a lot more if the art wasn't so horrendously ugly.

Critics, per Wikipedia
IGN reviewed Backpack Battles shortly after its early access release and awarded it a score of 6 out of 10. IGN described the shop phase of the game as "an enjoyable process that tickles the part of your brain that fires off in other games like Unpacking or just neatly fitting a bunch of your stuff into a closet," but warned that the game lacked enough items to make doing multiple runs interesting. Ali Jones of GamesRadar+ wrote prior to release that he was "already locked in" to the game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get me wrong, game itself is really fun to play, but matchmaking is screwed up and devs don't want to address the issue - you just get banned from their Discord if you mention it. The way matchmaking is designed, causes insane power creep of the opponent boards, the further from big updates. Right now, if you are at master rank or above, it is almost guaranteed that you will struggle a lot(unless you're insanely lucky), also will most likely face an engineer with power armor + golden…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game itself is nice, fun for the time when you have no other things to do. Downside of it are the devs that are overly sensitive. If you say that in your opinion art is being ugly - instat perma ban on the forums so can't even disscus other things. And for that childish attitude - a proper response. EDIT: Because some people think I went to their forums to get people offended. I actually went to the forums to say the game is nice, just the artwork isn't good - right after the new cover image,…

neutral · AI labelView post →It was fun at first, but I can't recommend the game in its current state. I can't shake the feeling that there is some kind of forced 50% win rate system similar to the one people often talk about in Dota 2. You can put together a strong build that counters multiple mechanics at once, only to then get matched against 4-5 hard counters in a row during your extra matches. Running a healing build? Suddenly you face opponents with 3-4 cursed helmets, sometimes for two games in a row, making your…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is excellent. It feels genuinely unique—you can play it competitively or just relax and experiment with builds, and both approaches work. That balance is rare. That said, I think the ranked experience could be improved, mainly around matchmaking and build consistency. **Matchmaking (main issue)** Right now, it feels like matchmaking doesn’t properly account for the current state of a run. In a game where players start with 5 lives, remaining lives are the clearest and most…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a muscle disease that makes it practically impossible to play first-person shooters. My feeling on the matter is that the amount of accommodations I would require would suck all the fun out of competitive play, despite the fact that I used to love playing Counter-Strike. Almost no two disabilities are equal, even if they have the same name. Creating a system to set accurate handicaps for a fast-paced competitive game would be a herculean effort. There are objective measures for things…
neutral · AI labelView post →Bloatpack battles. The devs kept adding more stuff, diluting the item pool, and didn't bother properly balancing what was already there. Have fun playing against the same builds on anything above diamond. Really saddens me to see the state of this game and give it a negative review.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can see why many people love this game. The build variety is insane. Almost every item can combine into something else, and the number of possible strategies feels enormous. There is clearly a lot of depth here. The problem is that the game constantly asks me to remember information instead of helping me use it. I spent most of my first hour opening the recipe book, scanning through pages of item icons, trying to remember what combines into what, then opening it again a few minutes later…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game used to be fun... back in beta, when it wasn't so overwhelmed by RNG and a million items. Random synergies just happen now; nothing is planned anymore. You just hope your backpack is more randomly put together than your opponent's. It's chaos, not fun. What used to be a chill experience has become absolutely unsatisfying. Adding new content is killing the game because it's no longer about strategy. Instead of interesting events, balancing, or seasons that subtly shift the meta, it’s…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very much enjoyed this. For a game that has you spending the majority of your time in a shop thinking about what to buy and how to order your inventory, it's always satisfying to see how that all pans out once you get into the battle. The game has an excellent replay and recap system as well, letting you go back and see how each battle panned out for you to see what you could have perhaps done better either item-wise or how your items were organised. The simplistic art style adds a lot to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play this game around one or two runs a day mainly on Berserker and I somewhat hit a wall on diamond 60. I enjoy playing it but also i can't stand horrible balance that hits you in the face if you don't play meta builds. There is so many possibilities to do a fun builds but nope, either you play whats absurdly too good or you lose rank points. I seen builds that kill Berserker that has very good sustain and survivability in less than 2 seconds. Dmg taken in this game is just too big, and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've spent almost 1k hours playing this game and unfortunately the metas never change. I wanna discover new builds and have fun with different combinations but i always end up going against snowsticks + corrupted armor (reaper) or holy spears with genie lamps (engineer) or literally every iteration of eggscalibur constantly destroying me in games. At this point you HAVE to play meta builds in order to climb in ranked and its boring. I'm about ready to uninstall at this point.

neutral · AI labelView post →Excessive RNG overshadows player agency and progression I have decided to uninstall this game and remove it from my library due to an over-reliance on random number generation (RNG) that ultimately undermines the player experience. Initially, the game creates a strong first impression. During the first few runs, players are frequently rewarded with high-tier builds and discounts. However, this creates a false sense of agency. After extensive playtime, it becomes clear that success is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love autobattlers. Backpack Battlers is just very, very sweaty. I've hit some kind of meta wall where I'm forced to either spend a lot of time researching the meta, what is optimal, and still possibly losing runs... or not playing the game. It's too much of a commitment. Fun game until you hit the wall where the algorithm throws you into a blender.

LOOTPLOT just dropped on Steam today, and it’s one of those games that feels simple on the surface but worms its way into your brain. But I consistently find myself coming back to this game over the years. It's so calm, self paced, and really gets the brain working and thinking and strategizing. It's a fantastic game that I think i'll continue to come back to for a very long time. Also I don't leave reviews, but this game just deserves it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring, the game gets more and more unbalanced with each update.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As fun as it is in the beginning. it cheats and at a point it will give you fake player AI builds that are literally the same and they will always be better unless you keep playing over and over till the game thinks you played enough then it will let you win. the game knows that if you get to the next rank too fast you won't need to play anymore. So it forces you to keep playing and losing until it decides its time ( i used the same build with pyro) the same build over and over to see when it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the art style is typically not what i would go for in a game the actual game itself is incredible. I played this game first at GDC 2026 and was so roped into the game i forgot to blink and had red eyes for the rest of the day. It scratches that itch for management and numbers go up at the same time while rewarding multiple replays. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun auto-battler. It has a lot more depth than i expected, hence i play it a lot more than I'd have imagined. I was almost a bit shocked to see that I played it for 50+ hours already at the time of this writing, it's easy to get lost (in a positive way) in this game.

Yet the one thing that kills enjoyment for me is the matchmaking from master onwards.
