This game is a mess. It shamelessly copies Stardew Valley but manages to implement every feature worse. Entire mechanics could be cut out, and the game wouldn’t suffer—because they already don’t matter. The economy is completely broken, progression feels meaningless, and most systems are either redundant or flat-out broken. Hunting Completely busted. A feather sells for 100g, a pelt for 40g, and meat for 100g. …

This game is what I’ve been waiting YEARS for! Finally, a farming simulator set in the Wild West!! I’ve been playing farming sims for nearly 20 years and I can say with confidence that this is already one of my favorites :) I wanted to wait until I had a substantial amount of playtime before I left a review so I can definitely say that Cattle Country is extremely fun and has TONS of playtime! A feature I love is …

Cattle Country is a western-themed life sim where you build a ranch, tend crops and animals, mine, fish, and get to know the folks in a small frontier town. It pulls from familiar genre staples, but wraps them in a dusty, boots-on-the-ground Wild West setting that gives it a strong identity of its own. Pros: ✔️ Familiar gameplay with a rootin’-tootin’ twist - If you’ve played farming or life sims before, you’ll feel …

I promised the Dev I would write a review after 100% and well, after 131 hours of awesome entertainment, here it is. I cut my teeth back in the day on a game called Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, my first adventure into Farm-Life sims and I had a blast. Naturally as other farm-life sim games came out, I picked those up as well: Fields of Mistria, Stardew Valley, Mirthwood, Everafter Falls, Medieval Dynasty, and of …

so far so good! its giving little house on the prairie had a baby with stardew valley vibes. i could honestly see this game having a following near into the future. I really like that you are able to butcher animals, hunt, and the mining mechanics. I love the art style. it feels so cozy! I would love it if this game were to continue to receive more updates in the future! the minigames are also fun :)

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, so, I was loving this game for the first hour or two, until I started realising how buggy/early access this game is. I can't recommend it in it's current state. No key rebinding. This game has some very strange controls, and there's no ability to rebind them. Actually, there's no ability to even SEE the controls. You just have to figure them out. Splitting a stack doesn't exist. Or at least I can't figure out how it works. Meaning it takes a LONG time to grab 500 pieces of wood…

neutral · AI labelView post →I have "finished" the game so far, and I wish there was a neutral recommendation, but there isn't... This isn't Stardew Valley! There's no love, atmosphere, soundtrack (in fact just 3-4 tracks?) or passion here. It's just a copy-and-paste version of well-known, functioning features. The characters are shallow and not well-staged. There are only 3–4 texts that the people have, and even after befriending or marrying them, the texts won't change. There's certainly a lot to do. It's a Stardew…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cattle Country will feature options to enable/disable enemies in the overworld or mines! 🤠 The game has "cozy combat" so critters will disappear in a puff of smoke rather than blood and gore BUT you can also avoid combat entirely if you'd prefer to keep the vibes CHILL 🙌
neutral · AI labelView post →Cattle Country is charming and unique, however it has a massive issue - the weather effects. During my short playtime, I experienced a few mornings of blinding bright white light across the whole farm that lasted about 30 seconds each time (apparently from a rainbow appearing?) and 2 thunderstorms that shook my screen significantly with flashes of bright lightning. It was physically uncomfortable to look at it, and to my surprise, there's no option to turn off any weather effects. My monitor is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a personal thing for me, but I wish the game had some kind of direction, purpose, storyline?? It would be a great game if I knew why I was playing it. I am all for cozy games but... I still want something to work towards, some story to discover, Something? Its just a personal thing. If you want a game that has no direction other than "Do whatever you want all the time" its great. But there are only so many times you can spend a day digging in a mine or foraging the fields just to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am writing this review because of the review written by PirateQueenCarl (this review should be updated or deleted), I think it's out of date, there is some crying and it's harmful to the game and also I think the game deserved to be noticed and I recommend it. *Yes, citizens say the exact same dialogue when you talk to them daily, but it's not a big deal. *The map shows where the characters are and also game shows what characters like or don't like if you wonder what to give them. *You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a full year of this game thus far and feel pretty confident in writing up my review now. I WOULD recommend this game with a caveat: if you have some extra dosh laying around. Otherwise the price feels a little steep for something that still feels somewhat barebones and requires you to read the minds of the developers to figure out what certain things are for, how to progress and what exactly each event entails. Now it's time for the breakdown (never gonna get it, never gonna…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is completely unplayable unless you’re willing to look up nearly every single major task requirement online or are the kind of person that enjoys grinding every single skill and relationship 100%. Some quests are blatantly incorrect (like joining the wine club calls for crafting 50 bottles of wine but triggers at 5, so I wasted a lot of early game materials making kegs). The dev’s guides are frustrating to try to follow too. I spent about a week in game trying to trigger a heart scene…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels like the devs gave up on this game. Or rather, they only made this game to put their foot in the farming simulator genre and then left it at that. The game is beautiful and the music is nice, but it's pretty bare bones. The characters are not fleshed out, their lines are repetitive and their cutscenes are generic and lack any sort of sparkle. There's a lot of QOL features that need to be added, because there's no guide that helps with romancing characters or figuring out how to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is unfinished and unbalanced. A scaling economy is simply absent. Without much effort I had 4 greenhouses by the first winter and ran out of motivation with over a million dollars in hand. The mines are bland and too small with nothing interesting to find. There are no special fishing spots and the minigame is more like a widget spinner than a challenge. The wild west setting has so many of it's own unique gameplay opportunities but this game doesn't really explore them. The…

neutral · AI labelView post →I thought i would like this game since i enjoyed games like Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper and Red Dead Redemption. Sadlym i have to admit i didn't have much fun with this game during my few hours playing it. The mines felt very boring, the progression felt confusing and didn't really know where to go or what to do for the most part. Another thing that i found weird was that a specific villager was selling an item that was apparently a great gift for her, i could just buy and gift it to her…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've given this game a fair whack. Even though I'm giving the game a thumbs up because I do have fun, it's a very, very tepid thumbs up and I would say - be careful buying this, especially if you're into Stardew Valley. Consider why you play Stardew. Is it casual play, building farms and ticking boxes? Then Cattle Country is a good alternative. Is it because Stardew Valley has that but also challenging gameplay through the combat and late game content? Then... maybe not. you'll have to see…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh my, oh my. I really like the premise of the game – it’s basically Stardew Valley with a little western twist, and I’m into it. I’ve played for about 10 hours and I’m still enjoying the classic grind. But there’s one major issue I want to highlight: progression. Something just feels off about it. 1. Uneven character leveling – I’m still in the first season and I’ve already almost maxed out mining and foraging, yet I haven’t even upgraded my tools once or placed a single new building. 2.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Literally TL;DR: - no character stats or menu, no perks, no skills, almost no nothing except craftables to soften the grind, just mining/farming/etc class exp & recipes - horrible handling of tools, especially watering can and fishing rod (fishing in general is extremely slow and clumsy) --- that shootout minigame / bandit encounter is terrible and unnecessarily forced, and in the surface world you can't just aim at bandits like you can shoot at wild game or 'monsters' in the mines - spawned…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Isn't possible to play unless you have a keyboard despite the Devs lying and stating that you can play on Steam deck, Asus and the like. Doesn't matter if it's potentially good or not when it isn't playable. Refunded and I'll wait to see if I can find it some other way. They clearly don't care for me so I won't give them my money.

neutral · AI labelView post →It's cozy, you can have pets, make friends, get married, build both the town up as well as your own home. Decide to be a rancher, farmer, miner, whatever ya like. You can even make good money in creative ways, the game doesn't box you into a specific thing. For example I decided I was interested in playing the game as the owner of a Winery, with my own vineyards. All doable! It also runs PERFECTLY on the steam deck. I turn the FPS down to 60 and the wattage down to 9/10 and get about 10 hours…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is tough because I enjoy this game and am definitely still playing - that said, the bugs, the lack of direction, the crazy gameplay imbalance - it is shocking that this game was released on all platforms and is not currently in early access/beta or even alpha testing. It feels like the developers did their own testing and did not conduct real end-to-end or user acceptance and integration testing of the entire game. And that is completely beside the almost total lack of quality of life…

neutral · AI labelView post →There are a number of things I enjoyed about Cattle Country! Gatherable resources are abundant and diverse (trees for wood/fruit, flowers, mushrooms, grass for hay, etc.), which makes the world feel full and vibrant. I LOVE the mine setup. The art for dawn/morning is breathtaking. What I liked less about Cattle Country is more reflective of my personal gaming style than the game itself, so keep that in mind! I maxed out my mining skill early on and expected to unlock the recipe for dynamite.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls are a nightmare. (right click for jump, you have to click DIRECTLY on doors, tool button and interact button are BOTH mapped to left click, etc.) The keybinds make no sense, and there is no way to customize them. Furthermore, there is too much going on at the start of the game, and there is a lack of tutorial. I'm very disappointed as the concepts in the game were interesting. Hope the devs polish the game more, but for now, play at your own risk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish there was a better way to differentiate between romanceable characters and your npc nonromance characters. Cause so far I haven't seen a noticeable difference. Usually in these type of games it's a color changing heart to signify a potential bachelor/bachelorette. I talked to the sheriff and literally the first sentence he said while meeting was that he had a kid. But from what I can gather in the discussion forums, I think he's a romanceable cause he has heart events? There was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely *loved* this game. I'm not a completionist, so there's still a lot of stuff to do, like upgrading the railway and such. But I just finished the main quest of getting the town recognized, and just! This game has so much love in it! The characters have hobbies and routines! And not just hobbies that they *talk* about, you actually see them doing their hobbies and their jobs. There's an astronomy club, and everyone will go to the mountain carrying their little telescopes, and there's…

positive · AI labelView post →Really fun farming sim. Really love that it takes place in the wildwest. The characters are quite loveable. The cutscenes are pretty good so far. Though I do wish there was a bit more interactions/more cutscenes since it does get a bit repetitive their dialogue, since they say the same thing everyday in town. Another thing that would be a cool fix, is when you go out in town and you speak to the person you married they awknowledge you in some way, it only happens in the farm and there seems to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll start this off with a simple statement - I want this game to improve. I think it holds some potential to be a better game than it is in it's current state. That said, there's one overarching issue about this game... it's kind of boring. I've put hundreds of hours into Stardew Valley. What keeps me going back to that game? I'll nail down a few points and give a contrast to what CC does differently. 1. The sound: SDV has a fantastic sound track that both motivates you and allows you to get…

There has not been a game since Stardew Valley that has captured my attention until Cattle Country - and I've played so many similar titles. At first, I thought "meh, it looks cute, but it's probably mid." I'm glad that this game proved me wrong! It has many unique features that does set it apart from other relatable titles. And I still have much more yet to do in the game! What I love: - The wild west theme. It gives this genre a fresh…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've spent a good chunk of time playing this game and I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far. The western theme is cute, no "your Grandpa died so now you gotta take over the farm." The music is really nice and pushes the theme a great deal, (wish it would play the entire time, not just every few minutes.) However, there are a lot of QOL changes that would really solidify the game. PROS: -Fishing is fun and easy. -The NPC cut-scenes are great! Some are even interactive to complete the heart event.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played through one year in this game and I'm loving it so far. I've not encountered any bugs at all - just the occasional quest that doesn't match with what the NPC said. Like Mabel said to raise 8 cows, but my journal said 4. Not a big deal as I'm always checking my quests in the journal anyway. Other reviews claiming the game is unplayable without a guide - I haven't used any guides at all. The NPC screen gives so much info. It shows all their liked & loved items for romance. It…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute game, I have put quite a few hours in to it and by now I can say it's NOT stardew valley, is it pixel art? Yes, Does it have farming? Yes but it's NOT stardew valley. The mine is completely different, the characters are completely different, you get letters from "Arthur Morgan RDRD2" throughout your life in the wild west. There are bandits that attack, creatures that attack that you must shoot with various guns. The mine is good imho, the mine is more like terraria which I don't mind…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First and foremost, this game really should be classified as early access as it is in development still, and some large elements you might expect (meaningful relationships for example) are still not in the game yet. With that said, the game is pretty fun, its star dew'esk, with a strong western feel, that is well done, and does well at give the vibe of a small western town. I'm only 10 hours in, and if opinions change will update.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would love to recommend this Stardew Clone, however, it is sloppy and soulless. There seems to be one or possibly two music tracks that constantly loop. The townspeople don’t seem to be well fleshed out. Everything about this screams “I want to be Stardew Valley, and we will rip it off (poorly) and call it an homage”. Maybe after a few updates it will be worth it, but I’d recommend passing for now.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →YEEEEHAAAAW! Loved this game from the very beggining. Love the classic pixel-art style, cozy feeling, plenty of things to do and many more that i cannot count. Stardew younger brother went on wild west. But tbh it was ARHTUR MORGAN who BOUGHT ME. <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yehaw Stardew but with its own charm. Super comfy with no real pressure, progression holds your hand and fishing could use some love but overall fantastic. Plus Aurrrrrthur Morgan!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game. BUT I feel like it's not polished enough in terms of characters and quests. all characters have like one line they keep repeating which make them boring and uninteresting. I hope the developers make some improvements to the dialogues in future updates. it's such a waste to neglect such minor yet important aspect of the game when you already have a game with great fundamentals.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like an ungraded version of stardew valley. The controls/interface is basically the same and so are a lot of the concepts; town projects, building relationships with NPC's, town events, foraging, farming, mining, etc. This is not a bad thing or a dig at Stardew Valley, it's actually a good thing. Having played Stardew Valley previously navigating this game was a lot easier. Some short comings: Very little guide/instruction available for new time players not familular with this…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an amazing game! It has mining, hunting, farming, relationships, and just so many very cool details that make this game endearing. You are in the wild west and there are some very cool conversations with the characters who are all like you just trying to survive out here in the wild. For those who prefer more chill game play you can turn off enemies in your settings. I got shot and robbed at one point and decided to try that out. Totally chill!
