Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 190 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (587 of 812 positive).
Players praise the unique mix of golf and roguelike genres. [1][2][3] Some find the game frustrating due to difficulty and lack of progression. [4][5][6]

Despite getting this on sale, I wouldn't recommend it. There's zero meaningful game progression in-between runs, which combined with fairly repetitive and punishing gameplay meant the game stopped being fun fast. I did 2 runs and lost on the third boss, but don't think I'll try again any time soon.

The music is decent pretty good and the premise is ok. Like other reviewers, I found the game to be punishing to the point of undermining any fun to be had. It's not just "test your mettle" punishing-- which appeals to many (but not all) gamers, to be sure. It's a lot of, "Oh! That's what that does!" in a game with very little opportunity to practice or redo anything. So, if you like exploratory runs in …

I definitely recommend the game, although oddly the first playthrough is the worst playthrough, because the boss levels are a pretty big wall. After winning, the bosses don't show up throughout the run, which is a lot more chill and a lot more enjoyable. Solid game overall.

The gameplay can be fun and the music is great, but the game is rather unbalanced. Either you abuse the pins and make most of it trivial or you don't use the pins and bosses become blatantly unfair, nvm the rng on lvls sometimes. A game like this needs a really fine line to feel challenging and rewarding. Losing to stuff that is out of your control isn't part of that. I am still going to recommend it despite its …

This was a fun little game! I can totally recommend this! You play golf with lots of twists and different abilities in a 2d setting. It is a roguelike game, so you always start from the beginning, if you've failed, but the bosses you only gotta beat once and they'll give you permanent powers. You'll be using cards to give yourself abilities, from flying a bit, to having multiple tries for a shot, or multiple shots …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Cursed to Golf received "generally favorable" reviews for most platforms according to review aggregator Metacritic; the PlayStation 5 version received "mixed or average" reviews. Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received strong approval, being recommended by 67% of critics. Prior to its launch, Cursed to Golf had been described as "the Dark Souls of golf" due to its difficulty. Critics universally noted this difficulty, though viewed it differently: some, like Graham Banas of Push Square, found the difficulty curve to be "satisfying", while others, like Eurogamer Italy's Simone Cantini, thought the game to be unnecessarily frustrating. A whole lot of things changed in the final but some things like the golf ball moon were there right from the start.

Ran really well, but not only that I played an entire run through... man, hindsight really is 20:20. I haven't checked it out since I left to start Denki. But, it really is a neat little game, proud of what it became 😊

neutral · AI labelView post →This is not a golf game, it is a puzzle game. It is also not a roguelike, as much as it seems to want to make itself one. There are cards that you have to use in order to actually progress and there are these pins that affect things long-term, but that is about it. There is only a driver, an iron, and a wedge. The game is LONG, SLOW, and overall very unenjoyable. Not recommended, but I'd love to see a different stab at the idea with better implementation and getting rid of the puzzle aspect of…

Reminds me when a game dev podcast didn’t have us as a guest after Cursed to Golf because one of the hosts “hated it”. That would make for a great episode to me! I’d learn where I went wrong & get to discuss my design choices
neutral · AI labelView post →The novelty of a 2D golf game makes this fun at first sight but this novelty wears off extremely fast. The limited vision makes the driver incredibly unfun to use. Apart from that, you never have enough strokes to make it to the hole so you always rely on good ace card drops which is an insanely unfun gimmick.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not really into it, it feels like it's trying to be something it shouldn't and just comes off as overbloated and in gameplay.. unfun. It works fine on steam deck and can be picked up easily, but I didn't find much reason to want to play after going through a couple hours sadly. The OST is sick though
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is absolutely my thing but I can't recommend it, which is sad because it could be a solid 8/9 with a couple minor tweaks. The biggest problem is the game not being sure if it wants to be golf game or a golf puzzle game. The puzzle formula requires a bunch of specific tweaks to the standard golf rules, and this game implements about half of them which makes it extremely frustrating to play. The biggest issue is the driver hitting with so much force that the shot prediction goes outside of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Woah, I literally never post any reviews, but this game is definitely something else. The graphics and the whole idea, powers and stuff are incredible... but everything else is HORRENDOUS. From menus, to never ending dialogues and tutorials, controls in the menus (you fast forward dialogues with space bar, something important pops up and you instantly skip it because its the same keybind), level design, camera, balance, frustrating and unfair mechanics... ALL. Feels like the devs didn't play a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like Cursed to Golf but this game is just tedious. It’s not a roguelike, it’s a physics puzzle game that makes you beat the whole game without failing. There’s nothing about roguelikes here that makes them interesting. Instead you’re left with kinda procgen levels and…that’s about it? And the game is DULL. Characters blabber endlessly about nothing as the devs want you to watch the same “quirky” animations over and over and over again. For a game where each run could take hours…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like most others said. Dead Cells and Binding of Isaac are the top dogs. No matter what else I play I always circle back to one of those two eventually and get sucked in again. But some other lesser known ones that are good are: Cursed to Golf - 2d golfing roguelike, no combat or anything. There’s a bunch of different cards to make the ball do different stuff. From a rocket ball you control after hitting to an ice ball that’ll freeze water hazards to a drill so you can tunnel through walls.…

positive · AI labelView post →I can't even see where my shot will go, should I risk a shot to get a shortcut? Who knows, I can't even tell of the shot is possible. Just allow me to zoom out so I can see where the ball will land, this is ridiculous.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute but torturous difficulty. Needs to have a codex of what each card does. It also needs to have more Roguelite elements to permanently upgrade abilities, not just cards. If you want to torture yourself with zero progression, go ahead. But this one wasn't for me.

neutral · AI labelView post →Cursed to Golf looks great and plays fine, but it's just not fun. The art direction is well done. It follows a cutesy approach with detailed and polished designs and animations. Menus and UI are all coherent but feel like they are missing a touch here and there. Some interactions with level elements are not as obvious or explained as they should be. Character design also looks really good. Gameplay is subpar, I guess. I can't quite put my finger on what makes the game so unfun, but the main…

positive · AI labelView post →Speaking about coincidences | KAMGUSTA's MINI REVIEW 1 year after the release of Golf Club Nostalgia, here comes a 2D game of golf with an arcade gameplay, different obstacles and roguelike elements. While Golf Club Nostalgia was nice, smooth and polished, this one is rough and not as fun and interesting. The difficulty balancing is poor, as oftentimes you won't have enough shots to reach the par. The way the game manages the map combined with an ineffective zoom doesn't help. Only for fans of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended BUT to get on sale. At the original price point it is quite of a high price. The game itself can be fun if you have the right expectations for it. It is a nice combination of genres and can be fun to pick up for a run from time to time. The game itself is challenging and took me 3 rounds to get the hang of it to start progressing properly.

neutral · AI labelView post →Why the ♥♥♥♥ is the tutorial so long? I mean like 90% of it is characters talking or some kind of weird exposition. It could be so much better if 15 minutes into a game you're not stuck in some wack-o tutorial. Not really a rouge-lite either. I paid 2 bucks. I'm not going to refund, there was effort put into this, but damn some of the design decisions are just weird.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A rouge lite that just ain't that fun. Also having rng power ups be the deciding factor of the late game is not good when the runs take more than an hour. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has a text book amount of rules. Your turn is the least important part with all the tons of extra modifiers added to try and keep it interesting I guess. Simply lob the ball through pixelated tunnels, but it's really frustrating when you get only a few tries before dying. Great concept, more like a table top board game or card deck style.... a total mess really, by difficult they mean poorly designed.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a big lover of golf and roguelike games, I really wanted to like this, and I usually dismiss the other kind of negative reviews that talk about bad design decisions or a lack of a tutorial or difficulty as people being salty, but I can really see the problem here. neutral · AI labelView post →The core gameplay is great if u like golfing games. Couple of bugs which are really annoying like bugged empty shops or just being unable to swing. These have been reported months ago, but still not fixed. The lackluster roguelike mechanics don't really excite the roguelike/roguelite addict in me. Overall not worth the pricetag.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here is my summary of Cursed to Golf: The gameplay feels good and rather responsive. However, each hole is really quite hard. You get a set number of hits before you fail, and if you fail you go all the way back to hole one. Each set of four holes increases the difficulty and adds nearly impossible challenge. You do get golf abilities to help give you an edge; however, these aren't handed out as freely as I'd hope. Yet the game seems to focus most on memorizing courses and optimizing pathing.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's more of a puzzle game with a golf aesthetic on top. WAY too much story. The cut scenes are endless and frankly annoying. I'm glad you can skip them but they just never seem to end. If you like golf games, you will not like this game.
