What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 18 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (23 of 31 positive).
Players praise the satisfying turn-based combat and creative terrain manipulation. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game lacks depth and polish, feeling like early access. [4][5][6] The desert atmosphere and blocky art style are widely appreciated. [2][3][7]

A fun tactics game that could use a bit more depth. You're limited to three active characters at a time with three more in reserve. Characters gain a main attack, at least one passive, an active, and a map ability that can be used if they're in reserve. Those abilities are great, fantastic little additions that make the crew loadout a little more interesting to build around. The depth ends there. There are modules …

Really fun tactical roguelite with satisfying turn-based combat, great terrain manipulation, and plenty of meaningful choices. Every run feels different, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Highly recommended!

Really fun turn-based tactical RPG with a great mix of strategy, survival and roguelite elements. The combat is enjoyable, and the destructible terrain makes battles feel more dynamic than a typical turn-based tactics game. I also really like the survival aspect and the decisions you have to make with your crew and limited resources. The desert setting and atmosphere fit the game perfectly, and you can tell a lot of …

Recommended, but with some reservations. They nailed the atmosphere: the clay-like models, the sand-ocean and the decaying world aesthetics are all on point. When it comes to the actual game: the approach to the tactical gameplay is interesting, with a fresh take on the cover system and a lot of emphasis on environmental destruction and environmental... creation? (e.g. spawning pillars on the map to mess with the …

A great mix of turn-based tactics and roguelite survival. Being able to create/destroy terrain gives combat a creative twist, with plenty of opportunities to experiment with positioning, traps, and abilities. Managing your crew and keeping the caravan moving adds tension between battles, and the desert setting suits the struggle for survival really well. Blocky art is also great and works well with the desert …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well thought out and implemented tactical roguelite - maybe not as much choice involved in the RNG as would be expected in a traditional roguelite but good fun nonetheless. Worth playing if you enjoy the genres. Will definitely be sinking hours into this.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry, this is a tactical turn-based cover shooter where you cannot shoot around cover?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Superb sense of adventure and exploration with solid tactics combat! Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE the sand-faring aesthetic. Something just feels immensely satisfying about plowing through the sand with a boat. I'm 3 runs in and lost every single one to a boss fight, but seems like I can have some passive buffs and new abilities to start with that'll make my runs easier.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far, so good! It looks like it has potential to be very challenging in some levels - can't wait to get into it even more!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun game! The combat takes a little time to get used to, but that’s part of the challenge. Nothing is handed to you, so you actually have to rely on skill and strategy. The gameplay is addictive, the progression feels rewarding, and every run leaves you wanting to go for just one more.

Managing your crew and caravan adds tension between battles and the desert setting and blocky art nail the atmosphere. Every run feels different. Highly recommended for tactical RPG fans!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting roguelike structure that pairs difficult decisions with turn-based combat helps Dunebound Tactics stand out from the crowd. @raisinbman.bsky.social previews the game. www.startmenu.co.uk/home/preview...
neutral · AI labelView post →It plays like an early access title. Loading screens and very tediously slow travel on the map. The map is "open", in theory, but due to limited fuel and slow travel, deviating off the default course seems like a death sentence. No save feature that I could see. Any mistake could end a run. No "undo" button for combat movement either. For me, having the currency be both fuel and money takes away from the fun. I'd rather they were separate, as it seems to be tight, and spending it makes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting concept and world building. However it currently lacks both polish and content. Core gameplay is fun but is often clunky and unresponsive. Hours of content is also lacking, 5 maybe 10 hours if you are attempting to get all achievements. All in all doesn't feel like a 15 dollar game (even with a small dev team).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun game in current state with potential for expansion in multiple ways to make the game larger/more challenging that I hope the developer keeps working to grow. Many different classes that join the team to fight and a good variety of enemy combinations to encounter. Modules for the characters was a fun addition and the stress of managing the currency as fuel was a nice mechanic. That said it took me 7 hours to finish the game and the combat loop lends itself to cheese the enemy with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dunebound Tactics is a turn-based roguelite RPG where you lead a caravan across the Sea of Sand, recruiting survivors, managing limited resources and fighting your way toward a new home. This review is based on completing Act One rather than the full campaign. Pros ✔️ The party building is easily the best part - New recruits can bring completely different classes and roles, while crew members left in the caravan can still help through support abilities. Changing the group genuinely changed how…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its.... OK (and clearly worth it) 3 Completed runs and a small handful no one else saw and never happened! 14 of the 18 achievements so far. The game itself is fun, and is very much in what you would expect of a rogue-like game. Standard 2 actions a turn, with movement counted as 1 (you can move twice etc) - most attacks end turn however, so developing a team member that can attack twice in a turn can be very handy (or one that can chain a attack). There are a few things that stick out that…
