It's a cute and well-designed dungeon crawler / roguelite deck builder, but the lack of meta-progression on failed runs means you can be 2-3 hours into a deep dungeon crawl and lose all the accumulated rewards. If that doesn't turn you off, it's worth checking out, but for me that's too big of a downside to overlook.

Dungeon Drafters is an absolute gem of a game. It oozes charm from every pore of its being. Dungeon Drafter's is a perfect example of why no matter how good your core concepts are, you need to pay attention in design school. This a perfectly solid deckbuilder RPG with a somewhat generic fantasy world and some fantastic card design that really appeals to Johnnys...but everywhere else the game makes wrong choices. Enemy attacks, especially those for boss encounters, are not cleanly explained to players. The tutorial boss is a mandatory loss but it's vague enough that many players…

I'm surprised at the number of reviews saying that the tutorial is difficult to follow (and the one guy who quit on the fakeout boss that you aren't meant to beat). I personally really love this game and I should note that its not a card-drafting game, its a DECKBUILDER. There's some misunderstandings regarding that. Because you're building a personal collection and assembling them as a you wish there's a real feeling of progression as new kinds of deck become more practical to use, and its…

First, this is NOT a draft / Roguelike game like the titleimplies, do not buy expecting this to be the case. This is barely a CONSTRUCTED card game. In fact, this is just a vanilla campaign "kill 5 bosses" trash RPG masquerading as a card game. These devs had decent ideas but could not deliver a real card game and ultimately settled with a mediocre RPG. However, the devs still falsely advertise this as a card "drafter" game. This game should not have been released in this poor state or…

On the surface this game looks excellent. Lots of interesting design space, the four "elements" really come through everywhere, some combat moments that really make you feel smart. But after a while, parts of it start to grind on you, heavily. This is the sort of game where once you know the enemy movement patterns you can sight read the optimal play...and shockingly often for a card game the optimal play is "don't play any cards" or even "do literally nothing and wait a turn". Part of that…

This has one of the most profoundly worthless tutorials I've ever seen in a game, simultaneously drowning you in paragraphs of worthless text for things typically summed up with just "Move using cardinal directions" while entirely passing on explaining things like "What about all these keywords on my surprisingly unintuitive starter deck?" or "Wait, does that symbol mean they have extra life bars? Sometimes they stack, sometimes they don't? Buh?" After an intensely boring starter dungeon where…

The bad reviews turned me off for this game but I got it in a charity bundle and I must say, all those guys who said the game was unintuitive were so wrong because you can hover over enemies to see their actions, buffs, and debuffs. You can also hover over a card's effects and symbols to see what they mean or do. I also thought there wasn't a lot of content but there is a lot of fun replayability to every dungeon that I found myself first timing bosses, it wasn't easy but it was doable because…

I want to give this game a positive review, but the good design the game has is mired in a lot of irritating decisions. The good parts of it are wonderful. opening packs and getting new cards is satisfying, tons of trinkets for passive effects, very distinct play styles, the progression feels satisfying, and the art is beautiful. The bad bits of the game are few, but weigh heavy on the experience. The ui is very poor and interacting with the game feels very clunky. I've accidentally moved…

Returned after playing for 2 hours. I am disappointed with the combat system and card collection. It feels like you're punished for learning to play the game. The tutorial faced you off against a boss that could 2-3 shot you, took 45 minutes to get to, and gave no rewards for facing. I played a few more dungeons, but for each run to take 45-minutes and possibly be wasted -- it feels like the devs don't want me to enjoy playing the game. I really dont know how to rate this but I've played a lot now and the enemy intent system is absolutely infuriating but I otherwise enjoy the game. Having to check enemies individually is one thing but look at the bosses, I've tried the library boss a few times and it says that it will do an action that does 1 damage, fine. I really wish there was a "mixed" option for reviews. the game is good, but the card pool feels too shallow, and it feels like too many mechanics get a kinda half-assed support, not enough to build a real deck around. for reference, the entire game's card pool is less than a single MTG set. If I could I'd give it like a 7/10, but I'll settle for positive.

Fun game but it has some pretty serious UI bugs that can ruin your experience... The good: - One of the playable characters is a cute fox girl and many of the characters in the hub world are foxes too. Should've won GOTY for that reason alone. - Varied music ranging from retro chiptune/tracker-style beats to jazz and a few other genres. - The artstyle is pleasant and has a nice coherent palette, reminds me of some GBA games. - No "forced ugly" characters and NPCs. Art is cute, music is catchy. Some of the concepts with the cards are cool, like being able to push all of the enemies in one direction. That's where my praise ends. Picked the Monk and started off with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ deck. Only valuable cards I used were one that makes a wall across the game board and one that swaps enemies' HP. > First boss casts room-wide petrify. Gain another and you'll die instantly! > Discarding petrify gives you 1 petrify. > Boss casts room-wide petrify again. Die instantly. I was really enjoying the groove of the game, but giving the first boss a mood-killing petrify mechanic and telling the players to redo the entire dungeon just puts a horrific taste in my mouth.

Death penalty is you lose hours of progress. This would be okay if you had the ability to exit the dungeon any time, but you can only exit BEFORE seeing the next dungeon and easily can get in an unwinnable situation. The boss is very different than the usual monsters, and I was not using a guide, so the only way to find my build didn't was was by meeting him and losing everything from the entire dungeon. Your time is worth more than this, get a better game.

Game is a hidden gem. I get to actually build my deck with the card I collected. For some reason that isn't common in indie card games, because they usually copy Slay the Spire way too much. I also have no idea what action the enemy monster or boss is going to take at a glance or at all. The core gameplay is rewarding, and the soundtrack and art are great—but try not to have too much fun or you might find a balance patch on the way. Early game is extremely boring, being limited to 3 actions per turn makes it so you can move about 2 centimetres before you turn ends. This game deserves a higher rating than mostly positive honestly. I get some negative reviews about sometimes, the best move is no move, I also thought this a few times in the beginning, but you get used to it. The cards at the beginning are quite weak really, but once the tutorial part is over, you can tweak your cards as you wish and you will get better cards pretty soon. That being said... This game is amazing. It's a perfect blend of turn-based tactics and includes incredible depth of…

Start out with a boring set of cards and fight against boring enemies. There's no tactical aspect, no excitement, no clever combination of cards that you might expect after watching the trailer. Dungeon Drafters might get good later on, but in the beginning it's definitely far from exciting.

Extremely unintuitive. I don't need everything explicitly spelled out but this game leaves everything for you to figure out. Also a bit of a misnomer as you're not drafting - strictly a deckbuilder.

This game is great. Was a little concerned with the recent mixed reviews but found myself really enjoying the core gameplay loop and playing around with all the different deck archetypes. My only real complaint was that the default game speed felt way too slow, I would recommend turning it up 25-30% in the settings once you get going. Overall, would recommend if you enjoy card games.

(Reviewed after 1.1.1 patch but majority of gameplay experience was on the patch before) In short, Dungeon Drafters is one of my favourites in the mystery dungeon genre thanks to how fun the cards at your disposal are and how well they play off eachother and the enemies you are up against. It is only hindered by a few technical and clarity issues but is otherwise an easy recommendation to even those with a passing interest. The game is an SRPG + Mystery dungeon game with player and enemy…

Great Roguelike once you understand it. Play the demo and see if it clicks.

Game seems solid mechnically, but way WAY WAY too much NPC yapping and no suspend save which is by far the biggest issue especially since the gameplay loop is both involved and lengthy.

Pros: -Versatile deck building with definite means for perfection, aka skill ceiling very high. -cool cards I spent hours using and inspecting and even built a tier chart for. -combat is like a puzzle and low level combat is very thrilling. theoretically you can get by using a crap deck with enough planning, at least for a decent time. -different locations offer different enemies, environmental situations, and puzzles that make them stand out and feel satisfying to traverse. Cons:…

I want to like DD. It's got some neat ideas and it seems like if you can get back the initial slog it's better. It paints an interesting story when the bulk of the negative reviews are grouped in <2 hours of playtime and ~7 hours, while the majority of the positive ones are 20+ hours. Honestly I have a ton of stuff below this (in hindsight) that can be TLDRed as "the start of the game doesn't really feel like it respects your time" and "It probably gets better but I'll never find out". With…

Absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ design choices that prevent you from having fun. 3 AP per round, barely enough to do any combos. You spend your time running away from enemies rather than fighting. The bosses are absurd compared to the enemies you face prior to reaching them. Bugs that sometimes stop you from casting entirely, even though you have no debuffs. Massive town hub for no reason that takes way too long to get around. All of it could be put inside a single room. Solid 4/10 would not…

one of the best card/strategy games ive played the demo had me hooked instantly and telling my friends, "this game has the sauce" a perfect blend of pixel art, deckbuilding, strategy dungeon crawling and high fantasy magic pros: - fun variety in deckbuilding - satisfying and strategic gameplay - varied and unique enemies and dungeons - amazing art and music - interesting lore and world - extra gamemodes, challenges and fishing cons (if you can even call them that): - the hub town is a bit too…

Neat Tactical Crawler Alert! Spot on art direction, from the pixel art to the music, it's all blending in well together. The deck builder part is super open and lets you mix and match cards from different classes, allowing you to change the way you play between runs without a cost. The hub is a cute town where you can also play a fun fishing mini-game and a more involved "math and slime" game. Many characters have missions to offer that work like tutorials for the many advanced mechanics you…
