I honestly can't believe this game recently got added to Steam if the release date with it is true. But I remember this game, liking it as a kid and it always gave me Lord of the Rings vibes, like how one remembers the old Two Towers game and Return of the King, and this games music is just epic. So far this game plays great on my Steam Deck. Thank you whoever decided to bring this back.

This is pure nostalgia for the era of tough, atmospheric D&D action games. I played it almost 20 years ago and when I replayed it — I got the same emotions: adrenaline from the fights, excitement after every completed chapter, and the urge to keep going immediately. This game is quite short, playable in one breath in 5–6 hours on the highest difficulty. The story is delivered easily, without clutter, character …

Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received a positive response from critics. Heather Newman of the Detroit Free Press called the game "extraordinarily cinematic", adding that "the dialogue and story line Salvatore crafted substantially contributed to that feel". Judy Siegel-Itzkovich of the Jerusalem Post gave the game four and half stars. She praised the graphics as "excellent", and the sound, calling the music "rousing and dramatic", the voice acting "high quality", and the sound effects "highly realistic". She concluded by saying that while fans would love the game, it is too short and the hack and slash element becomes "repetitive". Demon Stone was nominated for two awards by the British Academy of Film and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was asked to run a kids (& parents') Dungeons & Dragons game, so I’m taking a little work break to dust off 3.5 this morning. The ruleset vibes with me more than 5E. Thinking of setting the one-shot (and possibly more) in the Forgotten Realms. Feels like the right setting to hook new players.
neutral · AI labelView post →It's a hack and slash action game - similar to The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (made by the same studio) - this one having a bit more to unlock for characters, as instead of just getting different attacks you can also get armor and weapon unlocks that show up on characters. For such an old game it still looks neat, also having nice soundtrack and voice acting that even includes some well known names like John DiMaggio, Patrick Stewart and the late great Michael Clarke Duncan. Having…

neutral · AI labelView post →I am (currently) the only speedrunner of this game, so I have played Demon Stone more than most. It's alright It doesn't look great and the controls are a little awkward. It's pretty short, even from a casual perspective, but there is little fluff and the levels are unique and generally well-paced. There is a shocking amount of voice talent and the music is really good for this style of game. It's obscure for understandable reasons, but an interesting time capsule. This release is vastly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One couldn't help but notice that while the trailer was mostly dark horror, they worked in some 'sexy' horror and one wonders if this was an effort to communicate to the BG3 fans that this game will be BG3 levels of horny. 🤷♂️ But Rivellon is just not as interesting a setting as Forgotten Realms.

It is our B-game for when folks can't all be there for the other game that is on the edge of being done. Worried that this game set in the Moonshae Isles might be darker than our run of Impossible Landscapes.
neutral · AI labelView post →What a frustratingly repetitive game. I get it, it's from an older time, but man.... Every single mission is basically just repeat the same sh*t a hundred times and then you win. With annoying enemies that constantly knock you over. The mediocre story is cute, but it's not worth the frustration of starting over and no way to skip any of the cutscenes...

Unfortunately I'm having the same issue a lot of other players seem to be having where this consistently crashes during just the first few minutes rendering this literally unplayable. I hope a fix is found! Edit: Thanks to the developers for the response. I tried the suggested fixes but it only partially solved the problem i.e. it still consistently crashes but now very slightly later in the first level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't even say that BG3 is a soul transplant. It was a good game set in the Forgotten Realms. But there was nothing about it that made it a sequel to Baldur's Gate 1 or 2. It didn't relate to the story, didn't cover the same themes, didn't use the same version of D&D, didn't play the same.

neutral · AI labelView post →It’s related to D&D or Forgotten Realms only by a couple of names and by the vaguely defined location where it takes place. It’s a three way single player, with two of the characters being under control of AI. It’s an action game with slasher/beat-em-up sensibilities, and unlike Devil May Cry 3 there are no useful combos or cool animations. You just spam the same 2-3 buttons. By the time you get to the scripted spider fight you’ll forget the tutorial, if there even was one. The required…
