What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 192 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (697 of 744 positive).
Players praise the game's psychological depth and emotional impact, especially its exploration of anxiety and depression. [1][2][3] Many find the puzzles clever and well-integrated, though some become frustrating without hints. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note the horror is more atmospheric than scary, with a focus on tension and story. [7][8][9]

I have mixed feelings on this game. It has a very strong start, but as things go on it becomes quite annoying and tedious. The wandering killer largely only exists to ruin runs where you are trying to do multiple timed puzzles and is otherwise a non-entity. The puzzles aren't bad overall, but if you get a little stuck it becomes immediately incredibly frustrating as you wander the house avoiding the annoying …

Horror in Your Own Head. An extremely niche yet underrated and strangely nostalgic P&C horror gem that I stumbled upon in 2023 and hold dear to my heart. I think I bought it at full price with #NoRegrets. Buckle in, because hooo boy, this is going to take a few paragraphs outta me. Perhaps I bought Homebody because it reminded me of a lovechild between Groundhog Day, Mulholland Drive, The Cabin in the Woods, House …

I knew this game was about anxiety and depression when i started, as it says in the warning before you play this game, but even then i did not expect this to affect me so emotionally. It left me crying for a few minutes after i finished it for reasons i can't or don't really want to put into words in this review. The game play itself was very enjoyable. Felt like an old PS1 type horror game with a few different ways …

To put it simply: it's the best horror puzzle game I've played over the past decade, right before Crow Country. Homebody is reinventing the retro-horror game genre by far. The puzzle and level design are a great fit for the real-time system that serves both the exploration part and the survival one. You'll never have any weapon to fight back, but your best arm is your logic and the knowledge of the space you'll …

AN ABSOLUTE GEM. Unique, clever, creative, fun, intriguing and titillating as all hell. It's ironic how some seasoned puzzle-game developers could only DREAM of making puzzles that makes this much sense. There's a part with a lamp that's a liiittle convoluted, but the use of a walkthrough/tips in-game through characters is so organically scripted, it's easy to trust that you'll find the solution in the game. …

That's a game that's gonna stick in my mind for a while not specifically because of the scares but the way it explored isolation, ocd, and being unable to talk to people about what's really going on with you.

positive · AI labelView post →When we thought about the environments in Homebody, we weren’t afraid of variety. Even though the game takes place in an old house, the story called for bizarre locations. There’s a charm in retro horror games where the places you’d visit were often wildly unique despite a linear/contained story.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those cases where the thumbs up/thumbs down system feels really limiting. I don't want to dunk on a small indie developer who clearly poured a lot of passion into this game, but I also can't in good conscience recommend it. Homebody does have a lot of positives: Cozy atmosphere, cool retro graphics, an original and worthwhile story. While it borrows its look from early survival horror games, it's not a survival horror game. There's no combat, no inventory management and very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall I find this game more annoying than scary or interesting. I think the game gets in the way of itself too often. This is a timeloop game and in theory I should be intrigued whenever I loop resets to see some new interesting tidbit told through a cutscene. But these scenes were way too long, I found the characters dialogues boring most times, and I didn't have any connection with the main character's issues of OCD/agoraphobia. While making progress, I found some good clues to try out…

neutral · AI labelView post →Looking for an awesome Halloween-y game? Never a bad time to pick up Homebody, a time looping survival horror experience with excellent puzzles 👀🔪
positive · AI labelView post →I was enjoying the game at first, but then it just started to feel like a chore and I wasn't enjoying it anymore. The puzzles were neat and keeping hints through deaths was a good idea, but then hints just kept getting stupider, puzzles weren't working for some godforsaken reason, I had to keep exiting and reentering the game just so that I could try to solve something again, it just became annoying to play which sucks because I really was enjoying it for the first hour and a half or so. Also…

neutral · AI labelView post →⚪🤖 INTERESTING! 🔪Homebody is a puzzle game with horror from anxiety. Anxiety from both its story and timer. This combo makes it pretty unique *BUT* I don't know a lot of people who might enjoy that 😂 hard to find an audience 🤔 thanks for chillin chattin lurkin 💛 #vtuber / #horrorgame / #indiegame
neutral · AI labelView post →i am playing HOMEBODY. you know. you wouldn't expect "horror game published by Game Grumps" to be good but.. it's actually good! essentially Time Loop Clock Tower With A Mental Health Narrative And Nancy Drew Puzzles and it works way way way better than i expected from that spiel
positive · AI labelView post →On the other hand, I'm halfway through Homebody and it's great so far. Clocktower inspired game with intuitive/rewarding puzzles and smooth pacing. You try to escape a house through perfecting timeloops while avoiding a freaky stalker. Not quite scary but a nice chill survival-horror experience!
positive · AI labelView post →The fourth card for my indie game tarot deck! The Hermit is Emily from Homebody. I’m not usually a horror fan but the narrative in this game really stuck with me.
positive · AI labelView post →This would be a fun game for someone who wants a high-stress time-sensitive puzzle-solving experience like an escape room but it otherwise falls pretty flat. Any atmosphere or tension vanishes quickly after the second or third respawn and the stalker/slasher basically just becomes a tool to quickly respawn when you want to speed things up. After the first couple of respawns, I pretty much gave up on gaining any insight into the characters too and found myself only interacting with them when I…

neutral · AI labelView post →Good, spooky, interesting game. The puzzles weren't my thing but the dialogue certainly was. I really began empathizing with all of Emily's friends and hoping they would make it out okay, that I could save them. Glad I went through the experience of being chased by a horrible knife wielding murderer!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →✨HEY LISTEN✨ I’M LIVE OVER ON #TWITCH!!!!! As many of you know I am a HUGE Game Grumps fan so that makes me all the more excited to play Homebody 👻 Come hangout for a silly, goofy, and probably spooky good time 🥰 💚🖤💚 twitch.tv/thenerdnikki
neutral · AI labelView post →Homebody was one of my first forays into horror games, games that I thought I could handle because I didn't think it'd be too scary. It had a few jump scares that got me and the atmosphere was incredible, with tense existential moments against the backdrop of the metaphysical. Emily and her friends meet annually in a small town to watch a comet storm. However, Emily's fallen out of touch with the group and she arrives late. Pete is nowhere to be seen, Gary and Megan have grown close,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was pretty intriguing at first but I feel like some of the rather on-the-nose dialogue about the mysterious events in the game was ruining that for me. The nature of the gameplay loop also killed off the tension pretty quickly. As in, the hostile of the game ended up being more inconvenient than scary. Not too rarely, I let myself get killed intentionally to reset time. In short, I think the puzzles were fine and the hint tracker is a very good quality of life feature. However, the…

positive · AI labelView post →I think its an interesting idea, and most of whats here isn't bad, some decent puzzles, decent dialogue and story, interesting themes, nice aesthetic, really good notes feature; but the timeloop is less of an integral mechanic to the gameplay and puzzles and more of an inconvenience, and for a game that's whole concept is predicated on this timeloop idea, it falls just a little short of the mark in my opinion. Also the survival horror mechanic(s) is just not good, its super basic and again,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →55) Homebody Homebody is a time loop horror puzzle game from Game Grumps, and I have to remind myself that Game Grumps is a media company with many employees and not just Egoraptor and Danny Sexbang, who did not personally create of this game. It's good! It's Clock Tower with a time loop mechanic.

neutral · AI labelView post →Interesting game, with more psychological depth than I was expecting. Horror aspect isn't too bad, mostly just involves being chased, but can get a little annoying. Puzzles are do-able without having to search for a walk-through, there are hints in-game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished the game Homebody, that was a really fun take on the more escape room end of survival horror with a timeloop and themes about dealing with ocd, depression and anxiety thrown in! Really good.
positive · AI labelView post →Really tries to explain the age-old question, "Why the long face?" Unfortunately, it's done with far too much tell rather than show. This would include some overly childish and just borderline cringey dialogue despite having a story which revolves around mental disorders and serialized death/murder. Still, it's a generally enjoyable and fun puzzle horror game deep fried in nostalgia. It doesn't do anything new or significantly interesting which I haven't seen in other works. The "resolution" if…

neutral · AI labelView post →A good time loop game, with light horror. Ultimately it is only really a looping game in a narrative sense. The environment progresses, and you will generate shortcuts for a couple rooms. The game is short, so the lack of loop-interactivity is forgiven. Sometimes you dont want to play a loop game where you need to keep track of ten npc schedules. There are spooky events that make experience interesting as you explore, changes in the details etc. The clues you find are recorded for you, so no…

neutral · AI labelView post →I wanted to like this game so badly. And a lot of the emotional moments are hard hitting. But by the end the puzzles are just a grind. Having to outrun the homunculus throughout the whole final puzzle, just for him to run away without more than 2 lines of dialogue to acknowledge it is insulting. The ending isn't an ending. Oh and the worst "tank" controls I've ever seen.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You find and input number codes everywhere and there's a fair chunk of dialogue. Not my idea of fun. They do well with atmosphere and spooky vibes, somewhat akin to Alone in the Dark, but the gameplay itself is slow and ponderous.

positive · AI labelView post →Game Grumps did me dirty by advertising their game Homebody as survival horror. Survival horror means resource management, combat, and stealth. Homebody has none of that. It's a puzzle adventure game with a horror theme. I don't like puzzle adventures, even when they're objectively well made.
