they are adding a useless ad-riddled launcher without any valuable update to the game. Could've done achievements and widescreen support instead of a launcher but oh well. https://steamcommunity.com/games/25900/announcements/detail/501717042106204501

King's Bounty: The Legend is by far my favorite in the series. It's so good. This year, 2026 at the time of this writing, they have improved support on modern PCs and Steam achievements are on the way. Nice to see this 2008 game getting more attention!

The game is one of those that just makes you smile. The colorful world, the silly humor, the relaxing yet tactical battles all come together in a really enjoyable way. I first played it around 2009 or 2010, thanks to a CD that came with a gaming magazine. Had no idea what I was getting into, but I ended up completely hooked. I still replay it from time to time, and it holds up really well. Out of all the games in …

King's Bounty: The Legend was not a game I expected to enjoy because it's so different from what I was expecting. I have an appreciation for turn based games, mainly because I am slow and boring, but the first few times I tried King's Bounty's battle system I was left feeling put off. Easily the biggest annoyance comes in learning your limits; it's far too easy for enemies to absolutely decimate your forces, and …

King’s Bounty: The Legend is a standout entry in the tactical turn-based strategy and role-playing genre, marrying old-school sensibilities with modern design in a way that both honors its roots and establishes its own distinct identity. Developed by Katauri Interactive and released in 2008, the game is a spiritual successor to the 1990 classic King’s Bounty—a precursor to the Heroes of Might and Magic series. What …

King's Bounty: The Legend sits at 80% positive across 174 opinionated reactions from 4 sources. Fresh or rotten — where do you land?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The IGN review of King's Bounty: The Legend praised the combat system, noting its depth and the need for players to stay alert. Highlighted negatives included the ostensible lack of balance in the difficulty of fights, with some foes being impossibly difficult to defeat in an area of otherwise relatively weak opponents. Overall, though, the title garnered a score of 8.1/10, and the review concluded: "While King's Bounty has some issues, there's a lot to like about the game". The GameSpy review highlighted the larger variety of different troops available in the game, which along with the role-playing customization elements, help the game to feel fresh. As with the IGN review, the GameSpy…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's one of the first games i fell in love with when i was a kid and somewhere along the line i picked it back up as a web-based game, so it remains one of the 2 games I'm halfway competent at still playing. (the other one is King's Bounty)
positive · AI labelView post →Game Boy Color has these wonderful ports (I guess they can be called official "demakes") of Heroes of Might & Magic games that feel like a missing link between Heroes and King's Bounty. First game is basically Heroes 1, but the second game is more like Heroes Greatest Hits.
neutral · AI labelView post →The psychopaths that own the rights to this game plan to add a launcher to a 17 year old title. For no other reason than they're psychopaths. Just a gentle reminder that 'postponed indefinitely' does not mean the same thing as 'cancelled permanently'. Postponed - Delayed Indefinitely - For a time that we aren't yet sure of So it's been delayed until they think they can get away with it again. Sorry, this review stands.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The King's Bounty game are on deep discount on Steam, and if you like turn based my army of monsters fights yours combat it's really good. The story is such that I click click past it at this point. It's not bad or anything just trite and only sometimes amusing. But the games, solid fun.
neutral · AI labelView post →I've seen someone else mention these, but I have to recommend them as well: **Maniac Mansion** (1987). It's the first SCUMM (_Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion_) engine game that all its successors use (Indy 3 & 4, Monkey Island, Sam and Max Hit The Road, etc). Really hard game play from what I can remember, and it has a sequel too, Day of the Tentacle (1993), which is absolutely hilarious. **Laser Squad** (1988) was among my favourites growing up, they are the precursor to UFO/XCOM…
neutral · AI labelView post →So after opening my steam library today I was greeted by King’s Bounty’s developers or publisher’s (whatever) announcement to implement their “new launcher” to the game – a what.. almost 20year old game at this point? So yeah, usually I wouldn’t give a ♥♥♥♥, yet another useless bloatware created purely out of greed, big whoop... Except for my untarnished regard for those games, despite not having touched King’s Bounty in years AND that tone and how they framed that ad, it kinda caught my…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do NOT want or need another damned launcher. And to add insult to injury, we have to use it just to able to disable it... like, WHAT?? Shame on you. Trash company.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a good game. A really really good game. But the practice of retroactively adding useless ad-bloated launchers should stop. Current IP holders didn't even update the game for high definition and didn't fix stuff like hard to read fonts but they will be adding their own launcher on monday.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The suit who decided to add a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher needs to be beaten like a human pinata. Go to hell.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hi, I'm a 17-year-old Italian guy who first played the game in 2014, when I was just 6. I'm writing this review because I'm very fond of this game; I think I'm one of the most played users in the world, having played about 20 full games. I think it's an incredible game, with a crazy story, a game that never gets boring and keeps you glued to the screen for hours. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 11, the first, and in my opinion, best, title in the King's Bounty series.

neutral · AI labelView post →See, this is how you get bad reviews. Just retroactively add a bad launcher to a decades old game for absolutely no reason. Do not buy, it's likely none of the money goes to the original developers if this is how they act.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great :) ----- original negative review below, changed because of the developers rolling back decision to add a launcher to the game ------ Adding a launcher to a nearly 20 year old game (even if you can just disable it) is just a bad move. Future games, sure go ahead and let people decide on it going forward, but keep it away from old or existing games. Why would you ever use old games as a testing platform for something you know people will hate (admitted by the fact a…

The update with the negative review included will be rolled out on Saturday. Don’t panic! positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew up watching my dad play this game, so there's definitely some nostalgia involved, but even without that I think King's Bounty: The Legend is still one of the best fantasy strategy RPGs out there. What I love most is the freedom in how you can approach the game. The three classes (Warrior, Mage and Paladin) all play differently. I usually gravitate towards Mage because of the insane spellcasting potential, especially with abilities like Higher Magic letting you cast twice per turn. It's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fantastic mix of light CRPG progression and HOMM-style resource management and exploration, King's Bounty: Legend is a great, satisfying RPG with a few rough edges that are mostly evened out in later entries. Two things I wished I knew sooner that will help newer players: 1.) You can right click enemy units to gauge their strength 2.) You can make notes on the map to help mark points of interest, very useful to help monitor where quest-givers are +3 classes that diverge meaningfully +Lots…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not necro old games just to add adware launchers to them. This game was great before; leave it be. UPDATE: They listened! So for an actual review: It's a tactical turn-based game with a whole lot of charm. You can tell the original devs (1C) put a whole lot of love and hard work into it. Maybe not the most polished game ever, but it's great in its own special way. Also, you can choose to turn a lady into a zombie so she can be with her lover forever. 10/10

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't recommend this game. Why? Because if you played one King's Bounty game you've played all of them. The first game I played was Armored Princess and it is a lot better than this one, though the UI is relatively the same. I managed to beat Armored Princess and it took me awfully long time to do it (around 70+ hr), and I'm not saying it's a bad game, on the contrary I think it's a great old-school RPG, but these games are becoming overwhelmed as the time goes forward, some would even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like to think of the King’s Bounty games as the RPG version of Heroes of Might and Magic. If you enjoy the character-building aspects of HoMM but could do without the town management, individual maps as well as map-based missions, this franchise might be for you. The greatest strength of these games is the sense of grand adventure, they tend to nail the feel of a zero to hero journey. I haven't played King's Bounty 2, so I can't speak on that one, but the other KB games have that going on…

There is no autosave, so I probably lost about an hour of work. I do not want this game anymore nor the security issues it is popping up. I got this on sale, and I want my 3$ back. I did not hit 2 full hours, and I'm not touching this game or series again, even for free.

But using it for meaningless achievements and community posts for a 20+ year old game feels like sprinkling dandruff and powdered piss as a garnish for an otherwise totally serviceable meal. Why even do it in the first place?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll compare this to the last strategy-turned-RPG from 2000-2010 I played: Etherlords 2. It was truly a golden era of beautiful units, worlds and icons and you could immerse in a fantasy world after hard thinking about some intresting numbers. This game is nowhere as deep (which is better for people filtered by Etherlords 2): the fights feel similar to each other, and it doesn't even matter that much which units you put into your army, although there are some cool synergies to discover.
