What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 171 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (1,902 of 2,483 positive).
Players say the collection includes the weaker entries in the X series. [1][2][3] Some posters complain about poor PC optimization and input lag. [4][5][6]

Someone here wrote "The Bad Ones" to describe this collection, and I would say they are somewhat justified in holding that position. While I am recommending this collection, objectively these games are worse in comparison to what came before. However, that does not mean there is no value here (well, at least for three of the four available games). X5 Mega Man X5 is one of the best 7/10 games I have ever played. The …

Excellent ports, mixed games (in terms of quality beforehand) X5 and X8 are fantastic as they always have been, X6 and X7 can suck a lemon. Losing my marbles trying to 100% this collection simply because of the tediousness that X6 and X7 provide in general. Overall it's a really good collection and I feel the presence of X5 and X8 balance it out.

Decent emulations of the "downward spiral" of the Mega Man X franchise. The emulation doesnt seem to have any of the latency issues that collections of these usually bring. Its got that going for it. Would have been nice to have some more shaders/filtering options but this is barebones stuff meant to make a quick buck so no surprise there. The extra features/challenges are worthless unless you are a masochist or …

Play this if you enjoy Megaman. This collection's soundtrack is OUTSTANDING. But BEWARE - X5 and X6 failed to expand on our heroes' universe in any meaningful way. X7 and X8 are criticized as poor attempts to evolve Megaman's traditional two-dimensional gameplay into something worthwhile on Playstation 2's 3D library. MMX4 (on collection 1) was franchise defining. It was the first Megaman X title on Playstation 1, …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is so much about these games I can say, but I think everyone else has said it a hundred times over. As someone who is a massive Megaman fan, I admit that I never tried the X series past the SNES before this bundle. After playing Megaman Zero/ZX and loving them to death, I wanted to see what the Maverick Wars were all about. What could possibly be so bad that it ended all of humanity almost? Oh. My. God. It was these games. Let me just give you the experience. I boot up X5. Love the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, X5 and X8 are 'ok,' and X6 and X7 are flat out horrible. Unless you want to see what they're like or have nostalgia, play the first X Legacy Collection instead and leave this collection alone. If you can get this on sale bundled with the first X Legacy Collection and are curious then go ahead and grab it. Making a Mega Man game where you can miss any upgrades permanently is a very poor design choice, and tying achievements behind that is just as bad. For me, X6 and X7 were not worth…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a collection of the worst games in the series As a kid I played a lot of X5 and X6, so I still have fun even though the games are inferior to the previous ones, but X7 and X8 are just terrible games with no good parts. Here is my detailed review of each game X5: - the bosses in this game are kinda weak - if you get bad RNG you can simply lose to ability to play as Zero - if you start the game as X Zero will be a bit worse (he loses his cannon), but If you star as Zero X will…

neutral · AI labelView post →While I'm happy to see the latter half of the Megaman X series preserved, I personally can't recommend anyone actually play them. X5-X8 don't quite hit the same as the X1-X4. X5 feels like watered down X4, X6 is watered down X5, and X7 is so watered down, it only barely has any remnant of what it originally was. X8 almost hits the mark, but it almost felt like too little too late. Only buy this collection if you either; A: You want to be really thorough with going through the Megaman series…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a collection of mediocre games. I liked X8 the most because of how different (and better) it is compared to the others. The games in the first collection are leagues better than the ones in here. If you skip these, the only thing you'd be missing out on is getting bored occasionally on some of the games, but despite that, I still enjoyed playing. Even if they're kind of mid, for 4 games I'd say it's worth it, especially on a sale and if you have enough patience and motivation to play…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works on Steamdeck. Gonna review this in multiple ways since this game has a unique place in history. MMX is a shooter/platformer, think of it as Contra but without forced scrolling and with added exploration. There's also a RPS aspect to the game with powerups, where type X beats type Y etc. So if you're looking for a decent shooter/platformer, MMX collection 2 doesn't cut. The only two games really worth playing are X5 and X8, but those games are decent at best, 6 out of 10 games. X6 and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favourite series returns, but is it all great? X5 This one has a more established story line with multiple endings. The music track is superb and stages are really well designed. Three different armours to collect and the option to play as Zero. Bosses have levels and you have a Ranking. X6 Excellent story with Japanese voice acting. Finding the secret room to High Max without having the special weapon means you have to suicide. Absolute nightmare! Many special abilities confuses…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is definitely the lesser half of the Mega Man X series, with the only good (or not terrible) games being X5 and X8, but they're definately not as good as the previous titles. Mega Man X5 - While not a horrible game, it's a step down compared to X4 in some areas. Some of the mechanics in this game like the parts system and boss's levels feel like they're not explain properly, yet they seem insistent on stopping gameplay for Alia to explain things I feel like you could piece together by…

neutral · AI labelView post →I bought this game mostly because of Mega Man X8. This was my favorite game when I had my PlayStation 2. I remember buying five CD copies because they would get scratched and stop working every time. I was too young and inexperienced and spent the entire lifespan of four CDs getting stuck on the final stage because of all the spikes. The first time I managed to “finish” the game, I was at my grandmother’s house, playing on a tube TV in grayscale. On the fifth disc, after finally getting past…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original Rockman collections are good. But the X collections, do not buy. GO play on simulators. In 2026, they still hardcoded movement keys and never intend to update it. If you playing on a keyboard, you cannot change movement keys to wasd. Yes, I can remap by myself. But if Capcom can do it in the original collections, they cannot do it in the X collections. Apparently different teams handle this, and I do not see the passions like the original collections they present to me.

neutral · AI labelView post →Get it for X8, maybe X5.. X6 isn't as bad as everyone says but for the love of god stay the ♥♥♥♥ away from X7. It is legitimately the worst X game and in the ranks for worst mega man games as a whole. Get collection 1 first if you want to get into the X series. As much as I love this series and these games even I can't deny that collection 2 sorta feels like sloppy seconds. X8 is amazing and X5 has it's moments but they still don't compare to the og 4. I know it's not canon but they could have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, compared to the earlier entries, this collection starts to fall off hard. Id say Mega Man X6 is where the series is still barely holding on its the last “decent” Mega Man X game, and even then its just okay at best. But Mega Man X7 is where things completely fall apart. It strips away everything the franchise was known for and replaces it with clunky, ugly 3D visuals when what people actually loved was the clean, fast paced 2D style. The gameplay feels like a massive downgrade ,slow,…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's a challenging and "up and down" type of experience; the second half of the Mega Man X saga, as presented in Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2, is...complicated. X5 and X6, in my opinion, are excellent games; however, I feel that X7 marks the beginning of the decline. While X8 is an improvement, it ultimately fails to redeem the saga due to its abrupt conclusion, leaving me with a disappointing impression. Despite the ups and downs, experiencing this collection is still worthwhile, as it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combining Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 is devious cause it means I have to pay for Pro Skater 4 if I want the good game too. This would be like if Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 also had X4 in there just to make you buy the whole thing.
neutral · AI labelView post →...speaking of which, the game has three endings, not two, and all of them are necessary for an achievement in Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2, and somehow that's not even the worst achievement they put in that as far as X5 goes.
neutral · AI labelView post →The second half of the Mega Man X mainline series is, unfortunately, a letdown. Every game from X5 onward is controversial in its own way. I don’t have much to say about the features of Legacy Collection 2 specifically—it’s the same as Legacy Collection 1, including Rookie Hunter mode. For some of the games in this collection, that mode is arguably essential. X5 is my personal favorite in the X series, but I can see why others might not like it. The game introduces more slow-scrolling levels,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unlike XLC1, XLC2 will either offer you a challenging experience or a really awful one. X5 is somewhat the same as X4 in terms of quality, however some things hold it back, the time limit, RNG, the 4 armor pieces, the parts system for instance, some levels like Duff McWhalen and Squid Adler (or Tidal Whale and Volt Kraken since they changed the names) are a drag. X6 is, somewhat the same quality as X5 however it is much more difficult and frustrating, with the non-existant enemy variety,…
