What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 176 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (463 of 516 positive).
Players praise Outlanders as a relaxing, cozy city-builder with charming graphics and engaging puzzles. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game can be repetitive and lacks flexibility in solutions. [4][5][6] Many players appreciate the bite-sized missions and clear objectives. [7][8][9]

It's definitely a "solve the build order" kind of game, which would be fine, but the game does not respect your time with missions being practically "solved" in 15 minutes but you must still wait for the exact win conditions to trigger for an hour on fast forwards (which is WAY TO SLOW). Meanwhile, each in-game day lasts like one minute, but the SAME MUSIC RESTARTS EACH DAY. This is how I imagine limbo is like. …

This is my absolute favorite game of all time. It is what has kept me sane through this last year of college, getting home and playing a random level, start to finish. Super relaxing and satisfying. One of the best management games by far, low pressure without feeling empty. Absolutely recommended for a short and sweet relaxing session every couple of nights. Plus the team is from my home country!! Love seeing …

My personal game of the year, in all honesty. Outlanders is a cleverly done city builder-puzzler that does what I've desperately been needing from other sims like it. The campaign mode is novel and engaging, building upon itself stage by stage through fun challenges and interesting little story lines. As much as I love a sandbox city builder, I always fall off once the gameplay loop gets to be too flat or …

I absolutely adore Outlanders. I started playing it on IOS and loved it so much I bought it on steam. What I love most about it is the simplicity. I find that other simulation strategy games can be so overwhelming with everything you have to manage. This is a game I was playing to unwind before bed for months. Don't get me wrong, this game can be a challenge! But listening to the music, watching my villagers run …

This one is like a strategy asmr. Really cute but still with some pretty difficult levels at the end. 60 hours in and I haven't tired of it yet.

Critics, per Wikipedia
Pocket Gamer identified as one of the best games on Apple Arcade and recommended it to players who want a relaxing city-building game. Game Informer recommended the Windows port over the iOS version for its better user interface. The reviewer called it "an immensely satisfying experience" and said the scenarios are difficult but fair. Rock Paper Shotgun said that it is as charming and relaxing as it promises but that it also has a surprising amount of humor, which they praised. Macwelt recommended it to fans of real-time strategy games who want something that plays similarly but is more relaxing. Outlanders was nominated for best video game in the 2019 International Mobile Gaming Awards.

neutral · AI labelView post →Relatively simple city builder puzzle game. As you go through the campaign, more buildings and mechanics open up. Reason I cannot recommend is that the game throws challenges at you without providing good ways of solving them. A specific example is the use of decrees to tell the villagers what to focus on. This can be work harder, or make/don't make babies. But then it throws challenges at you like keeping population capped. Seems simple enough to tell villagers simply not make babies when…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The core aspects of the game are OK, but this level/campaign design is just frustrating. Imagine you have a cozy version of Sim City, but it's almost exclusively starting with a partially built city from a kid who just put random stuff everywhere. The food production balance seems a bit off too. Making bread is a long, multi-step production process that seems barely able to feed the people needed to run it. I wanted a cozy city builder and I kind of got a slow paced Frostpunk with cozy…

I've gotten all I was looking for in this game: City building; cute, expressive citizens; and interesting stories. I haven't tried the sandbox yet, but it's a good bet that it works! I already have a town concept in mind!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried that gacha Monster Hunter Outlanders game and to nobodies surprise it throws all of what makes MH games fun into the bin and jams in all to familiar gacha mechanics in its place. Combat is hyper fluid and easy to grasp, you can animation cancel, weapon combos are now button presses...
negative · AI labelView post →Its everything I always wanted Virtual Villagers to be- but add in faster task completion, faster walking, and adorable graphics. I have put in quite a few hours in the short time I have had this game, and have yet to find a level/journey I don't enjoy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that's quite a lot of fun with a ton of content (especially if you get the DLCs, which they just dropped the prices of!). It's a very interesting mix of cozy/simplified and demanding/complex (as exemplified by the "chill" and "tactical" UI options that sit alongside the standard one), and its tone is an interesting mix of "good vibes" and "life is hell." In some ways, it is to Tropico as Majesty was to Age of Empires.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really love this game cuz it's simple and cozy. First time played this in Apple Arcade and I got addicted. (Me here sitting in corner waiting for another new wonderful DLC released) The difficulty are vary; some campaigns are ezpz, some can be such a bother. But, they're still easier and faster to clear compared any strategic games that I've played so far. My suggests for new players: - try the demo first (or check Apple Arcade) before buying all DLCs - clear the main campaign before…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, Monster Hunter Outlanders is a thing I guess. What we thinking the abbreviation of this game will be since there's already an MHO with Online? MHOU? MHOL? Or we just going with MHO considering that's what the official account on the other site uses?
neutral · AI labelView post →This is not typically my "style" of game, but it is one of the most engaging resource management games i have ever played. The story for each level is unique and engaging. Strategically using resources to complete missions offers a good challenge that feels very rewarding once completed. The game also offers optional quests which add a layer of complexity to each mission. Replaying missions to complete these optional quests makes early levels more challenging and replay-able. Missions…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s really fun and cute my only problem is they max out the population cap at 200 villagers. Really impacts the amount you can do eventually.i understand it for people playing on less capable hardware but hope they change that for pc users at least,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe I hadn't reviewed this game before. I've spent an almost embarrassing amount of time and perfecting each level of this game. It's ridiculously addictive. The art style is gorgeous. Challenges are perfectly balanced between chill and intense. The missions are varied. I LOVE THIS GAME!

positive · AI labelView post →It's more of a puzzle than strategy game. There aren't really multiple ways to win, but by following the most efficient way or being close enough to it. There's plenty of DLCs that I wish would be included in base game instead (even if it'd mean higher price). It's mostly to graphics and the vibe of a living village. The music gets repeatitive fast. Some game mechanics / tasks aren't clear enough, like - more than 3 farms meaning separate/different crop plots within one farm and not actual…

neutral · AI labelView post →There's this constant ticking sound, but it's not a bug, it's a feature... The ticking is letting you know that you're in fast speed, you can't turn the sound off, but you don't want to be in normal speed either. Being in normal speed equals boredom and burnout. The game is made out of mission, which all seem to have time limit that is steering you into being efficient and not just messing about. Problem is, it's not difficult enough and at least in the first few missions, there's always a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game on iphone. However, once I got to a certain point my phone would start overheating and it would keep crashing out. I thought a perfect solution was to buy it on my laptop. I only play sandbox as I just want to relax and play. Once it gets to a certain point it slows down to the point its unplayable. I have it on the lowest settings etc. I thought it was if I was queueing too much for my builders so I decided to try the insta build option, but it still happened. So disappointed.

positive · AI labelView post →Incredibly fun city builder strategy sim! I would highly recommend this game, especially for someone new to the genre as Outlanders provides a smooth learning curve and easy-to-use UI. The DLC campaigns kick the difficulty up, which makes it also great for genre veterans. I loved having clear objectives, which a lot of games in this genre are missing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My husband and I have bonded over this game. We will both play together in our home office, discussing strategies with one another and talking about the lore. Outlanders is a fun game that you can spend 5 minutes or 90 minutes on. The characters are adorable (their bios crack us up), and the leaders are all unique. We would definitely recommend this game!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Significantly less fun that I was expecting, but on the plus side I only paid $1.65 on Fanatical. It's just... slow. I assume that's to pad the game time out and make it feel like it has more content, but the balance is just all wrong. Maybe a higher speed option would help for players with less patience, or shift it to an idle game? I don't really recommend it at full price, but maybe in a bundle...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one wasn't for me. I liked the concept: a simple civilization builder with a bunch of scenarios to complete instead of just an endless sandbox. Unfortunately, I found it to be *too* simple. There isn't much strategy involved and the things you can control are minimal. Even though each scenario is different, you always follow the same basic formula (get food, build houses, scale up). This makes it feel more like grinding through and less about planning, thinking, and strategizing. To make…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm liking the game but it's super buggy with recycling. This must be the tenth time it crashes when I try to recycle a building through various levels. At level 16, I'm soft locked because I don't have space and I need to recycle a candy shop but every time I do, it crashes.... so annoying. Edit: half the achievements are from DLCs and they're linked to the base game, yikes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seemed enjoyable if not for the day / night cycle frequently and constantly interrupting what I'm doing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. It's perfect for me, i just wish there were more missions, especially in the dlc! I do wish the game would explain certain stuff a bit more. Otherwise, love it! I play this game to wake up to & fall asleep to. Really cozy and the only game i feel okay leaving but can't wait to start playing. It's not addictive, and i really really appreciate that.
