Frustrating controls, camera swings around on its own for no reason so you're trying to steer the ship with one thumbstick and fighting the camera with the other AND trying to aim your canning and shoot? Blah. Plus often I'm not moving despite having sails up, so I click the bumper to lower the sales and presto, I start moving! Often the wind is at my back but I'm going backwards at times, so I have to hit the Back …

Really fun! Super polished, has Windwaker vibes. I was also just telling a friend that I can't really think of any games where the main measurement of progress is how much you've filled out your map. Here it is! Sail forth is a naval game set in its own world full of little islands. I am not sure whether the world is procedurally generated or pre-build, but it is a large world to explore. In this game you sail around with your ship in a simplified realistic manner. You have to take the wind into account and change the direction of your sails so you can best make use of this wind. 89% of the 174 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Sail Forth. The complaint that keeps coming up: frustrating camera and control issues. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Sail Forth received "generally favorable" ratings from critics according to review aggregator Metacritic. Nintendo Life compared the game's world to the procedural generation of No Man's Sky with the visual aesthetics of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. They praised said visual style, as well as the actual mechanics of sailing, but found that the game was held back by technical limitations of performance and controls. Eurogamer described the game as "busywork" but found that the game's mechanics and theming made the busywork enjoyable. Compared to Wind Waker, they found that the game did a better job at integrating clues to future parts of the game: areas the player could not yet reach…

I wish this game had a "meh" option. I really wanted to like this game. And there is a lot I do like about it. Visuals are simple but clear cartoony style. Audio is good, sea waves and light music are nice, and combat sounds are fine too. It's a fairly chill sailing game with lots of little things to do, and slowly opens up with more things to do as you progress. Little things to do on top of minigames (fishing, camera snapshots, loot gathering, etc), with the usual core sailing-based…

Swords n Magic and Stuff - Cozy Action RPG you should check out. I stumbled on to this game after going down a rabbit hole for Indie RPGs and I think its definitely worth a look if you enjoy less intense action RPG games; this feels like a cross between Wind Waker and Fantasy Life. As for appearance, the game's graphical theme is very reminiscent of Wind Waker or Sail Forth and it uses a heavily stylized animated look which I really prefer over hyper-realistic graphics. Multi-player is also…

Might be fun for some but was ultimately a disappointment for me. The ocean is beautiful but there isn't much else. The islands are boring and simple. Most of the NPCs look the same. Just about every fight I find is 10x tougher than it looks and you can't tell how strong they are until you start fighting, then your ship is gone. To be honest, I've never played a game that made me feel like I could do a better job myself more than this game.

diaspora of ships on display, and unlike a lot of the other 'sims' on steam that over focuses on fully rigged, square sailed slop, this has a lot of brilliantly proportioned and detailed fore and aft designs. absolute rig-porn. (i made that up) combat is arcade-y but there's enough nuance to have different builds. the tech tree for unlocks is good. it can be slow at points, but you can also get by perfectly well boarding and capturing enemy (or unsuspecting) ships for their kit. Aiming could…

Great game to play with a controller. The gameplay is easy to learn, relaxing, and surprisingly addictive—I sat down for what I thought would be a quick two-hour session, only to realize five hours had flown by. Definitely worth your time if you're looking for a low-stress sailing and exploration game.

I've been looking for a game like this for a very long time and I don't know how i missed the release of Sail Forth as it is fantastic. Sailing in this game is a joy, and the battles are awesome. However, islands feel somewhat deserted and battles get easy once you get the harpoon, as you can board better ships that have small crews and capture them. Currently playing on a M1 Mac Mini with 8GB, with predefined graphic settings at 1080p, and it runs really good. Frames may drop when there are…

I have never posted a review for anything, but I want to post this as I think this is a fabulous game with one huge flaw that is easily corrected. There is no way to save your game. If you screw up, you are screwed. It is almost like a "die and the game is over" but just not quite as extreme. Just add a save game feature FFS. Edited to add: I have played another 10+ hours, and still have to keep my "Not Recommended" review. In addition to the Save feature already mentioned, there also…

Simply unengaging. Abysmal aiming in the combat, friendly AI ships get engaged in battle and sink miles away from you instead of following, with no notifications that they need your support. Islands all look the same, your only currencies science bottles for research and planks which you use to trade and for repairs, no gold??? in a pirate game???

Its a good game and pretty chill. Perhaps some more sailing mechanics might be nice or something optional to do while sailing. They have added that you can't sail straight into the wind or at a very close angle to it and that the best speed is gained from wind perpendicular to your boat which is a nice touch and often overlooked. Very pleased with the game and this one won't be giving me nightmares anytime soon! (Maybe we could help the slug chap a bit? I kinda feel for him... :<)

I have mixed feelings about this game, but it has a lot of character and I think deserves and overall positive review. The game is essentially a mix of Mount and Blade where you are exclusively on boats with the whimsical feeling of exploration of BoTW sprinkled on top. Conceptually amazing, but this game is a much smaller scope of either of the previously mentioned titles, so don't get too overly excited or you will be left disappointed! I really wanted to like this, bc a cosy, fun, naval adventure is exactly the kind of thing I should love. The gameplay is utterly shallow, combat is bland and unrewarding, ships largely feel & handle the same and traversal is just a chore. Wind currents do not change and blow exclusively from south to north, meaning if you need to go into the wind, you will be sat doing nothing for upwards 10 minutes while your ship rows into the wind. Assuming it doesnt just grind to a halt, which frequently…

game is good but the recent update seems to crash a bit more often, I raided 3 ships and when i tried to fast travel the game completely blacked out and took away all control, requiring a restart, and then when I loaded the game back up it was almost an hour's worth of progress lost with only 1 of those ships in my control. These were large merchant ships I took over, and was practically punished for. It happened aswell in the first boss fight, where I made it out of bounds of the game and it…

There aren't many decent pirate video games out there, so this scratches a particular itch that Wind Waker and Sea of Thieves don't really achieve for me anymore. Sail from island to island to progress the game, get lumber for ship upgrades by doing micro quests, battle ships and steal their crew, or the whole damn boat if you're lucky. The game feels much more polished than I had anticipated, there are some unique mechanics that made me smile. For example, selling the fish you catch will add…

Fun for a few hours then quickly gets repetitive. The dialogue is god awful and the story...is there a story? Idk, I skipped all the idiotic dialogue, which sounds like it was written by an edgy drunk 12 year old. The sailing itself isn't even that fun, and the fast travel ruins the game. The map is just so random and not thought out, though, that the fast travel system was the only way to make the map viable. Pass on this game unless under $10.

Game's a bit janky in places, but boy is it fun. I bought a Sakana - lightweight ship on the small side - and, loaded her down with flaming ballistas, dubbed her "Wasp", then proceeded to harass increasing sizes of pirate ship just to see what I could get away with. Conclusion: she can take just about anything if I'm fast enough on repairs. Setting ships on fire will do that to you. Progression feels disjointed and it's easy to get lost for hours with no clear idea of what to do next. the mid to late game throws all tactics out the window and devolves into roll face and hit repair. the game is generally buggy, and the expansion DLC adds another huge ocean to explore... only there's absolutely nothing in it. This game has everything I'd want out of it. It's chill most of the time, the ship combat feels like a revamped black flag, it's not 998GB, and everything isn't too clustered together so you actually get to sail a bit between places. There is a fast travel for you impatient lot, but I'm personally enjoying sailing everywhere. Still early into the game it feels, and to be honest, I'm not quite sure what the story is at the moment, but I'm vibing so I'm sure I'll piece it together as I continue.…

I thought I'd already posted a review but I guess not. Anyways, the game is fun. A bit slow sometimes, and personally I tend to prefer games with more construction/engineering involved, but the sailing in this game is pretty unmatched. One problem: the dlc's "maelstroms" are *buggy*. I get stuck in an infinite loop of trying to return to the overworld, only to immediately be shoved back into the dlc area. It's really frustrating. At least the base game is solid for the most part.

I adore the game, its fun and relaxing until some random pirate attacks and I loose a ship suddenly and.. ok so it NEEDS a peaceful mode or at least some control over how dense and aggressive the enemies are.. otherwise, use a controller when fishing, you very rarely loose a fish with a controller, they need to look at that too. All in all a fantastic game, very glad I got it.

Heya folks, here's a 2nd short featuring Sail Forth by Festive Vector and The Quantum Astrophysicists Guid. I'm quite a bit further into the game now, and will be recording part 6 today. Still got a while before it's finished though. #sailforth #videogames #indiegames #actionadventure #shorts

Recently discovered a wonderful game on the #SteamDeck - Sail Forth. Absolutely loving it! Hits that perfect chill spot but still have things to do. @festivevector.com has created something great here! www.sailforthgame.com
