What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 257 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (11,924 of 13,004 positive).
Players praise the refined Press Turn combat and deep demon fusion as the best in the genre. [1][2][3] Some find the world repetitive and the story lacking compared to other Atlus titles. [4][5][6] The enhanced rerelease is seen as a justified improvement over the original. [7][8][9]

Very good game 10/10 but it has denuvo. Even though its a complete single player game, you will need to have internet access at some point to play this game. These Publishers/Devs have insane brainrot if they think Denuvo helps against piracy. This only harms the legit consumer.

From a purely mechanical standpoint this is the best JRPG I've ever played. The Press Turn system is engaging and strategic as ever, and there's virtually infinite potential for build-making and team composition between the hundreds of unique demons and all the many ways you can customize them. There's also just so much love put into the presentation of every demon, from their animations to the unique moves a large …

Absolute peak turn based combat! This is easily the gold standard for modern JRPGs. The Press Turn battle system is snappy, punishing, and incredibly satisfying. Fusing demons is so addictive it will eat hours of your life before you even notice. The games OST goes harder than it has any right to, keeping the tradition. The art direction is stunning and the game looks crisp, dark, atmospheric, and polished to …

This is one of if not the best turn-based JRPG I have ever played in term of gameplay. Story, characters and music can't compete with P5R but there's something about the gameplay that just feels better. Graphic was surprisingly decent for a switch port. I like the open zones instead of mostly linear dungeons, exploring was fun and smooth. Demon Haunt feature adds some growths to demons and give them a little bit …

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is basically two games in one. You get the extended cut of the 2021 Switch original as Canon of Creation, and a director’s cut campaign as Canon of Vengeance. Same engine, same maps for long stretches, two different arguments about what the story is for. The War of Attrition, Fusion meta, Press Turn, and making your companions strong during your Journey is what sells the game, along …

neutral · AI labelView post →Shin Megami Tensei V is pretty challenging. I love that it requires some level of thought when applying buffs and debuffs, what party members to use, and fusions. The demon collecting and battle system is what drew me to Persona so I might end up enjoying this game more. 👌🏻

This game is incredibly fun. I’m enjoying collecting various demons, traversing the world, and discovering little secrets.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →JRPG's are all about evil fog and killing god, in Shin Megami Tensei, that's the entire game. It really is the most jrpg jrpg to have ever jrpg'd. Great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a bad game. In fact, I can clearly see why it has such a dedicated fanbase. The fusion system is excellent, team building has a lot of depth, and there is plenty of room for experimentation. The problem is that after around 10 hours I realized I wasn't enjoying the experience itself. Visually, the game became exhausting for me. I understand the artistic direction and the post-apocalyptic desert setting, but everything started blending together.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If there's one consistent trend you can ding Atlus for, it's their love of enhanced rereleases, with a modest amount of extra content, a healthy level of QoL, a new character or two, and a new price tag. It's certainly consistent enough that even Sega has noted that it's harming their sales. Still, while it's always a bit hit or miss if it's worth picking up and replaying an Atlus RPG when it gets the obligatory enhanced edition and port, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance more than justifies…

neutral · AI labelView post →What can I say about this game? You’ve seen my playtime, right? I went beyond 100% and still keep coming back for more. Sure, there are RPGs on Steam with better graphics, characters, and story. But the gameplay, the refined fusion mechanics, the care put into adding unique animations for many of the 270+ demons, and the fact that they have their own innate passive skills, makes this game the peak of SMT gameplay. Recently, I started a NG+ from scratch after maxing out both level and stats…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1) Defeating the Demi-Fiend gave me more satisfaction than any other hard boss in any game in all my gaming history. 2) Nuwa 3) Amazing game, just ignore its launch and re-launch cycle (usual Atlus bullcrap). If you buy this version, you have in your hands what's in my opinion one of the best JRPGs ever made. Incredible combat system with a nice amount of deepness and flexibility. 4) Nuwa I really want to see a new SMT game made without the Switch limitations in mind. PS: If you can, buy the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, so this review will be LONG. I started my playthrough through Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengenace on July 9th, 2025. I write this review on October 21st, 2025. It has taken me nearly four months to finish both my playthroughs of the games different stories (or canons). Four months to have this game become perhaps one of my favourite JRPGS of all time, and definitely my favourite Megaten game. I'm sure many other players could have finished it faster, but I'm glad I got to really…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GOG should be more proactive in order to fulfill its mission. 1: Officially make a Linux client. 2: Pursue indie series. Project Moon, Touhou, and more. 3: Commission remastering projects. Thief 1 & 2, FreeSpace, King's Quest, Vampire Bloodlines, and so on. Optionally buy these properties to make sequels. The IP holders don't really do much with them, it would be relatively easy to buy them. 4: Get more serious with companies like SEGA and Kagura Games. Shin Megami Tensei V has…
