What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 214 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (51,410 of 54,347 positive).
Players praise it as a classic Star Wars game with no microtransactions or pay-to-win. [1][2][3] Many say it is better than modern EA Star Wars titles. [4][5][6] Some reviewers report technical issues like black screens that make the game unplayable. [7][8][9]

Game keeps switching to a black screen and becomes unplayable when trying to select a unit to spawn as: literally unplayable.

OG OG OG Star Wars. No battle passes. No skins. No “meta”. Just spawning in, picking a class, and immediately getting blasted across the map. I remember my neighbor Joseph showing me this when I was like 6, like it was his son Jesus himself, felt like my older brother putting me onto the real stuff. This was the “don’t tell your parents we’ve been playing for 6 hours straight” kind of game. And somehow…it still hits …

+ has the most content of all Battlefront games, including Galactic Conquest mode + classic and simple + active modding - the main menu is not the original release version, they changed it to an ugly schematic when console copies of the game had an animated menu with film scenes playing in the background - requires some mods to properly work on modern hardware

Great game. Still beats the current offerings because: There's no store! No pay to win! No paying for anything other than the game! It's still so much fun after all this time!

Certified hood classic. STILL plays fresh and exciting, even in 2026. Sure, the controls and the shooting are a bit clunky, but this is a 2004 XBOX port. Would not recommend to get this game for multiplayer, it doesn't have many working servers (1 in EU, i guess a couple in the US). Singeplayer campaign is simple, but does provide some enjoyment and a grim, sad plotline. Gamemode that deserves most attention is …

STEP 4: You can also install the HD Graphics Mod 2.0 (not…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute peak. If you play this game your chance of getting women (or men) increase dramatically. It saved my life from a fire, saved my dog from a wolf, and fed my cat while I was sick. Perfect
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THE BEST STAR WARS GAME. no ♥♥♥♥ its the best but its even better with mod support. Download the Battlefront 2 remaster mod download some additonal maps download 'A New Frontier' mod for sequel content if u like that stuff And the game is even better
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gotta hand it to EA for making so many star wars games and failing to make a single good one after I was born, it's genuinely impressive
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game keeps switching to a black screen and becomes unplayable when trying to select a unit to spawn as: literally unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →actual classic, if you weren't around when this game came out I don't think you can ever appreciate games the same way I can. Sorry. WE are not the same. Star Wars. ♥♥♥♥ DISNEY
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If this game was a living person I would marry it. Maybe even if it wasn't a living person like in corpse bride I would still marry it. I would marry this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is quite simply the greatest shooter game ever made. I do wholeheartedly believe that. This game is peak. The space combat is peak. The Multiplayer is peak. Mos Eisley Hero Battles are peak. If you want to have a good time with your friends at a party, boot up a LAN match on this game and you'll have a blast, I just know it! Just be sure to WATCH THOSE WRIST ROCKETS

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic from my childhood. One of the best Star Wars games ever made. The heroes vs villain's game mode is enough reason for me to play this. If you never had the pleasure to play the original, I surely suggest to do so.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →absolutely goated game and flawless just wish the campaign was 10x longer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's pretend that the whole EA situation didn't happen & go back to the true Battlefront 2 experience. If you're looking for the best Star Wars game out there, look no further, this game has it all. Although the vanilla version is just the tip of the Iceberg, Add mods, and you've got yourself the ultimate Star Wars game, but even without mods it's great.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WOW. This IS battlefront. No microtransactions, loot boxes, or anything. Its good even by todays standards
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely my favorite childhood game. Plenty of game modes, great story, spaceships feel great and heroes really give a sense of power.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is better than any star wars game Disney put out. I wish that Lucas never sold because the third game that was in the works would've been a great game that expanded on features from previous games. The modern battlefronts released by EA under Disney was abysmal and just cash grabs. Everything Disney and EA touch turns to dog water.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has been an important game all my life. I remember as a kid getting my cousin's hand-me-down Xbox after their Mom bought them their 360. I remember promptly getting it taken away again weeks later after the 2nd time I'd been caught in the AM hours before school trying to glitch my way outside the hangars in space battles. I spent hundreds of hours after school spamming explosives in the hallways of Polis Massa and the Tantive IV. Recreating the intro to Ep.III in space battles over…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than any of the EA games. No loot boxes! No unfair stupid powerup system! just fun gameplay in recognizable starwars locations. Love it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →og story star wars old but gold imagine people back in the day playing multiplayer on this
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah original Battlefront 2. This is a game that I spent much of my early childhood playing on my PS2. I think I have the original case somewhere, but I had ended up playing it so much that I had to get a brand new disc. Great nostalgia.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm willing to admit that nostalgia may be playing a role, but this game is just the peak of Star Wars gaming to me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story of the game is nice and slow burn. I like that it follows the perspective of a clone trooper of the 501'st legion without sugar coating the war. It's also nice that the story was written before the inhibitor chip retcon of the clone wars show from 2009. The maps and the scenery are beutiful, for most planets. Too bad that the only gamemode, that is populated is conquest. The maps look nice, and are open enough to allow for prolonged vehical combat, while not feeling claustrophobic,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game screen continuously blacked out on my laptop, and would reappear whenever I paused inside a battle, but would not function once I exited the pause screen. It's really freaking hard to play the game when you cant see anything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game sometimes cuts out visual. And nothing that you do will bring it back
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have been playing this game since probably like 2006, and just completed my first ever galactic conquest run today for star wars day. this game will always be goated with the space battles and the XL battle mode is super fun since that mode isnt available on the console version of the game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is amazing. Even for someone who has not played it when it came out, this is still amazing. So many game modes. Instant Action, Campaign, Galactic Conquest etc. The campaign is amazing. Joining the 501st troops to the rise of the empire already sounds great, its even better when you play it. Overall Highly recommend 10/10!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big ol rose tinted nostalgia goggles, but even all these years later, I still think this game is peak battlefront.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the AI is not very good which is i think to be expected from a campaign shooter from 2005 but i played this so much as a star wars loving teenager. the classes are fun, the maps are fun, and it's fun to mod, too. good if you like star wars
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are millions of Star Wars fans around the world, yet it`s amazing how few truly great games the franchise has produced over the years. Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005) is one of those rare gems that made it onto the list of the best. Big thanks to Pandemic Studios for creating a masterpiece with simple gameplay, great map design, an iconic soundtrack, and that unmistakable Star Wars atmosphere. It`s a bit sad to realize that after all these years and so many Star Wars releases, this game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is, well, a classic. 1. One of the last great shooters without auto-healing. 2. Despite some embarrassing lore mistakes in mechanics (bomber V-wings? Yoda being the only Jedi who doesn't throw his lightsaber, even though he is the one who actually does in films?), a surprisingly deep campaign, giving a great window into clones' thinking. 3. Just fun to play all around!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this years back to play the campaign, got stuck in Knightfall protecting the bookcases. I finally beat it today!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFG
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yep. It's classic. More importantly, it also happens to be 2005.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 20 years BF2 is still better than its 'New' counterpart. Recommend checking out BF2 Remastered by Harrisonfog for the ultimate experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Star Wars game for me. Enjoyed revisiting the 501st. Game is still fun. Mods and online play are available. As a kid, I played this with a faulty disc on ps2. Never got to finish the campaign because it always got stuck on the loading screen of the 9th mission. Despite this, me and my cousin still spent countless of hours on that faulty copy. Now, many years later, I finally finished it. Game loads so fast I can't even read the loading screen.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gallactic Conquest always freezes or quits the game. Does anybody has a clue to fix this issue?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I lost the will to live Friday. Nothing suicidal, just the atypical malaise of “nothing matters and nothing we do matters” that renders you worthless in terms of ability and productivity. So I redownloaded 2005’s Star Wars: Battlefront II. To the layman, Battlefront II is ungoogleable because it shares its name with the unfortunate 2017’s spit-in-the-face-to-fans Star Wars: Battlefront II by triple A studio EA. That game marks a turning point in the video game hobby as a whole, so mired with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The hours I have poured into this game probably number well over 2000 between my time running it on my original xBox, the 360, three separate laptops, and two different desktops. This is easily my comfort game and I use it as a palate cleanser when I get done running through my umpteenth 80-hour RPG. Battlefront II builds on the original by a nautical mile (which, apparently, the original Battlefront was a re-skin of Battlefield and I never knew that). It adds a fully fleshed-out campaign…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holds up great 21 years later. Genuinely such a fun game it is crazy how smooth it feels. I have a lot of nostalgia but my point still stands regardless of that. Console version had a better menu though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →imagine a stormtrooper pinning you to the wall and she says "you rebel scum" and starts depantsing you slowly and touching you evrerywhere mmngh.. ghhg.... yes mommy... Im.. a good boy...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily the best Star Wars Battlefront game, IDC
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even after so much time after it's release i bought it and it turned out fun as hell, the best thing is you're just a normal stormtrooper/clone/rebeliant/drone and lightsaber characters just aren't as fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battlefront II (2005) is an incredible Star Wars shooter that I played just before high school as the 2015 DICE remake would release soon after. I love both the EA DICE and the LucasArts Pandemic Studio versions of this series, but this in particular holds a special place in my heart.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best original battlefront game. Way more fun with mods. If you have left over coins, get this game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is one of the best Star wars games to have ever played. Highly recommend. I decided to revisit this game, and thus far it has been a blast.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Words can’t describe the esteem of this one and its former. Buy it out of respect.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A certified classic. great fun for everyone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One the best Star Wars games ever! Battlefront 2 improves on the original with it's multiple games modes, playable heroes and villains, 32 man online and expanded space battles. The graphics are slightly worse and the overal impact of the gunplay just isn't as heavy or as tight as in Battlefront 1. Other things that have regressed in a way are that you now have to play as a one man army and do everything by yourself whereas in the original you felt like a small unit of an army and had to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nostalgic. I used to suck at this game when I played it as a child, but now it does feel much easier than I remember. If you remember being stuck on the Knightfall campaign level don't worry - it is much easier after a couple decades of gaming ;)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perhaps it's nostalgia, but Battlefront 2 is just as fun now as it was when I was a kid. No game-ruining bugs or problems. The online servers are a bit wonky, but I imagine they were back in the late 2000s as well. Highly recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute based classic game, highly reccomend you setup Star Wars Saga Edition for a better single player experience on modern hardware but the original game in itself is fantastic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First time I ever had a sequel give me everything I wanted from a sequel. Still holds up as a game today and worth giving a go for more than nostalgia reasons
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is way better with mods especialy battlefront remastered
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is so peak. If you are deciding to buy the classic collection or this one, BUY THIS ONE NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. i love it. ITS JUST PEAK
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. It's great. The maps and gameplay are great. It's very enjoyable. Fun game to hop on real quick and play for 10-20 minutes. I love this game. I'm at 25+ hour right now. I can see through walls in this game literally. Apparently if you are really good you can do that- its crazy though!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is GOATed. While the new BF2 is updated. This game still has more content and the gameplay, while dated, still holds up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been playing this game since 2008, mostly on my PS2. Bought the steam version when EA came out with their knock-off version. This is classic, quintessential Star Wars, and while the graphics are old, they hold up surprisingly well. The Campaign is fantastic, and the gameplay is smooth.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is insane how hard this game still goes 20 years later. The newer Battlefront games are completely different and imo this was something the PS2/OG XBox era did better. Aside from KOTOR and SWTOR, it's the most fullfilling Star Wars experience ever created. The ONLY thing I hated about it back in the day was my favorite map from the first SWBF (Bespin) wasn't included on this sequel. wah waaaaaaah
