What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 263 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (19,345 of 24,044 positive).
Many players enjoy the game and see potential, especially with recent updates. [1][2][3] Some reviewers warn the game may be abandoned due to infrequent updates and poor communication. [4][5][6] Players note bugs and performance issues, but many find them tolerable for an early access title. [7][8][9]

I want to recommend it but I can't. Abandoned game, DEV is completely silent even in discord, which is overrun with terrible people. A perfect example of how not to treat your customers and how not to get a loyal fanbase. Very bad DEV, beware and never buy from them again.

It was a great game, I guess. I really enjoyed my time with it, you can see from my hours that in terms of cost / play it was good :) I really wanted to see the 1.0. Unfortunately it's now been 4 months since any kind of last update. Almost safe to say that the game has been abandoned. You can still buy if you'd like, you'll still get some hours in it but it will never be a finished game, therefore my recommendation …

Plenty of people have complained about this game, and at the time? They were right. but the thing that they complain about, and forget about, is this is still in Early Access. There are going to be bugs. Leaving a negative review because of a bug in an Early Access game is a terrible move on that person. This game is fun. I enjoy it. Do I wish there was more? Absolutely. Are they adding things and making …

I just wanna leave a positive review to balance out the negative review bombing people who thought the game was dead. The new update shows the devs want to finish the game and its going in a very fun direction. I just recently started playing again after buying this game 2 years ago and really enjoyed the naval combat and new missions they added. MAKE SURE TO PLAY ON THE BETA WITH THE NEW UPDATES

(Edit since last review) Caution. I still think it isn't bad for 20 if you are a survival geek, but a sale is best. My husband and I couldn't bring ourselves to finish the game. Unlocked a lot of cool stuff, but by end game even more giant bases and islands, tons more enemies, but same style of game play did in fact get boring. (Edit done) For 20 bucks this game is actually worth it now. (was kinda before, but now …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game with a ton of potential and awesome ideas that's plagued by nonexistent updates to the public build and a stagnant test build where they actually have updated and shown some awesome ideas and mechanics but they communicate so rarely that its hard to tell if the game is actually ever going to release or improve in a reasonable scale. Buy at your own risk it's a chill adventure for a few hours but don't expect much for the future. EDIT: Got back into the game once a public build got…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No public update for over 12 months! Beta/Test Version gets random updates sometimes four months apart and just seems to break more of the game each times. Textures are now very poor even on "Highest Settings" and it has not improved fps. fps later game is very poor even on high spec PC and it seems to be getting worse. Note:- the pictures and video show on the store page are from an old version of the game and not the current or test/beta version.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This came out in 2023 and it's rough to say the least. Almost feels like a playtest. Everything looks rough. The crafting is boring. The lack of animations is boring. The ocean is bare with just swordfish everywhere and nothing else. I'd say hard pass since it's not even getting regular updates anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Right now, I'm enjoying it and it's pretty fun. Resource gathering, base building, exploring, etc. But, I'll be honest, the little things are starting to pile up. It feels like Stranded Deep, some aspects are better but I'm finding a good deal that's worse. Wish the graphics were better and wish I felt real in the environment. Flying through barred windows underwater, running through plants like I'm invisible, running through basically every thing. Nothing in the world feels real…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AFTERWARDS EDIT: Alright, After having playing through the ENTIRE game again, checking the side quests, the new traders, etc. I CAN confirm not much is new. The side quests CAN be bugged, and you on your play through might not even get some of the items or even quest objectives to spawn. The traders instead of being one central hub are now spread out, which is actually more annoying than good. (Makes trading an entire day trip) The actual content of the update itself (which is again, in the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for the game. I have put some serious hours in the game always hoping the next patch would fix and evolve it. I have rebuilt my bases 3 times with the release of new versions. While there is some enjoyment in the game it can get a bit meh, i suppose i have played it through a few times now. Performance issue i have is when my base gets attacked, and i can be anywhere on the map, and its a"hook fest" - stuttering and lagging - until my defenses have taken out the enemies, this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth playing now they have basically abandoned the game and let it rife with bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game gives some nice vibes and is a decent survival game for sure BUT... ... I can't look away from the "sort button" bug, eating up your stuff. Sorry, but this is such a dumb bug to not fix after the game is out for so long. You work your ass off to farm some stuffs and you simply get screwed over and over and over again, for using an in game feature that is hardly optional as it is totally a most needed quality of life feature and it's right in your face all the time, as you NEED to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So first things first; "26 minutes played" is extremely misleading; I played this game for about 8 hours a year or two ago, but apparently it isn't counting that. The thing is though, the game I played was in a different stage of early access, and it was *A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GAME.* And it was way better. This *was* a great concept for a unique 3D-isometric-style colonybuilder with unique ocean rise/fall mechanics, faction favor management (even if it wasn't particularly challenging),…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed this game when it first launched because I love a good RPG, material gathering, base-building game. Don't get me wrong, it took FOREVER for the Devs to update the game to a point where it's decently playable. This new update got me super excited, and I was hopeful it was a step in the right direction to think they hadn't abandoned it, or didn't care about it anymore. I am currently on a play-through of day 73. We have great guns, ammo, and a decent base that's halfway defendable.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't wanna drag this game down. It's alot of fun. But at its current stage, despite the release of its most ambitious content yet, It has some serious issues that CANNOT be ignored. To start, the biggest issue is that the system for aiming isn't stable, not in any sense. At some times, moving the mouse up and down may actually move it side to side. or even diagonally, and vice verse with side to side. Next, on easy mode, with Garrison and raid turned off, still has AI npc on mounted weapons,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great base of a game, fun gameplay, awesome theme. Unfortunately there are a LOT of bugs and needed updates and enhancements, but the developer refuses to push out any updates to their default (live) game. Instead, they keep updating their test branch only, and it's been over 15 months since they've improved their early access game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunkenland sets up its world with a simple premise: water won, and everything familiar slid under. The game asks you to build meaning out of whatever debris you can pull from the sea. What keeps the experience steady is the tension between fragile security and constant need. Nothing feels theatrical; it’s all stripped back to procedure and consequence. Introduction: The first moments tell you exactly what you’re working with: limited tools, resources, and a skyline made of half-drowned…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes I recommend this game. I love games where you build and advance and build better. I usualy keep the attack settings low as I don't mind some combat but the building a base is my focus.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has potential but so many things pile onto each other that it's now in an unplayable state. Since there hasn't been an update for a year I started playing the test branch to get some new content. Do hope they get it fixed and once the base game is fixed release what they are trying to make.

Vector3 Studio dont let that game die pls its too good to die that way i was playing this game when it came out celebrated every new content had some insane sessions with my "not anymore" best buddy started new over and over coz of updates back in the day but i didnt care... this game can go on for forever i hope you guys dont let this game fall even if you update just a little thing does tell us that u guys dont let this game die so pls…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Complete Lack of updates and when it is updated always minor changes, just your basic adventure game with not enough content.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely not recommended at the moment. The game is just a massive bug-fest and offers zero quality-of-life features. Updates take forever. Then come heaps of minor bug fixes that just make everything worse. Then you wait another 6–9 months and repeat the cycle. There are so many better alternatives; this is just a huge waste of time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played 112hrs and just out of no where it corrupted my game i have lost all my game data and progress, really not happy i had 93 out of 100 achievements unlocked
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look at all the negative reviews. I'll wait. Ok... So now your still reading. Guess what, this game is not that as bad as they say. It's actually VERY well put together with such a low budget. Is it an asset flip? YEP. But it's well put together. They keep updating. I played this ages ago when it first came out and it was no where near as good as it is now. The gameplay (only played with friends) is very entertaning. My only complaint is the fact that the enemies (this includes the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I believe I bought this game like two years ago and gave it a test run. Started it up again recently and... nothing changed. It is being updated extremely slowly, there is a constant storage problem even with mods that increase inventory, barely any QoL in terms of inventory, like "store all" or "storage broadcast", so storing all your loot is a hassle, no QoL building stuff like being able to replace wooden foundations with metal ones. And after you reach ores, you're in for even more hassle.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy this game there is a glitch that will not let you get past the stormborn outpost mission. You cannot get past this so the rest of the game is not able to be played.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played this game in very early access.....got a bit fed up with it...the updates since i last played are very good...definately worth it if you like this kind of game...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is excellent. There's a lot of hate from people that aren't in the know about this game's development. Yes, it is taking the devs a while to update the game and Yes they are mostly radio silent at this point, BUT at the same time, they are still actively working on bringing changes to the game. As of 6/13/2026 there was a recent major update to the game. The last one was 6 months prior(!) which is a long time, and it was a public test branch update, which isn't pushed to the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really fun, and continues to be developed and enhanced by the devs. Despite minor gripes about small stuff, I really like this game, and it has great replayability value. I'm posting this on May 31, 2026 and the last dev blog for Sunkenland was just posted on May 29th. IMPORTANT: The Steam page gives contradictory info about the last update. It posts a (false) Note: that the last update was over 17 months ago, but then on the game page it shows that the last public test…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a bug in sorting function. After I click sorting my item of the same kind disappear.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is surprisingly fun for all its jank, and is still receiving updates, but developer communication is abysmal.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS GAME IS STILL SUPER BUGGY. THEY REALLY NEED AN "UNSTUCK" FUNCTION UNLESS THEY HAVE IT AND I DIDN'T SEE IT. I KEPT GETTING STUCK AND WHEN GETTING MY LOOT BACK FROM MY DEAD BODY I WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO COOK MY FISH MEAT FROM MY INVENTORY. GAME STILL NEEDS A LOT MORE ATTENTION, I GUESS I'LL COME BACK IN ANOTHER 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I keep coming back to this game, play it for an hour, and then see where it is going... and stop playing it. It has promise... it reminds me of 7 Days to Die, you just have opponents who can shoot back. In short, when playing it, you swim out to a spot, loot piles of crud (mostly metal fragments), and then swim back to see what you can make out of it. This is no Assassin's Creed or Fallout 4. It has promise, however the map is just a tic-tac-toe board of things to loot. I was hoping for a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Dev abandoned the game. It's a bug-filled mess. Thank you Dev, You are the reason I will never buy an early access game again, and certainly nothing you ever touch.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →only 5% of the playerbase was able to get the easiest achievement in the game (walk 100 meters). How does this game have 9k positive reviews. This is statistically impossible.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game abandoned by its devs. Its time Steam takes responsibility for these.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay. So. I've played the game a bit since the update dropped. Has my opinion changed? ... Unfortunately, I don't think it has, but perhaps I now have different reasons for having it. I once said this game was "dead." It isn't. It's "undead." And I'll explain that in a minute. This still almost hurts to write. When Sunkenland first came out, I was immensely excited for it. It was definitely bare-bones; most of the ocean was empty and barren, the graphics for the mutants and people were clearly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Note: The last update made by the developers was over 16 months ago. The information and timeline described by the developers here may no longer be up to date."
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it - quite entertaining - I guess there's some bugs here and there, but they are not breaking the game. I played the released version for quite a while before switching to the beta branch. That one is even better. The biggest downside I can think of, is that the new big ships - I can't make them move more than extremely slow, so they are not really useful. I look forward to more updates in the future, to make the game even better! I can strongly recommend this game, if you like survival…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would love to love this game but currently can't. The level of jank is unacceptable. Constantly getting stuck on things that don't exist and then drowning as a result just gets boring after the third or fourth time. I'll keep coming back as it has potential, but I can't recommend it in its current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →has lots of potential but enemies way to hard boats seem to see you underwater wherever you are turrets the same you make it impossible to enjoy the game my reason for uninstalling wanted more it would be great as a stress free game to just enjoy but no you have to make it ridiculous
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is full of technical issues and bugs that seriously affect the experience. It feels poorly optimized and unfinished. I wouldn’t recommend buying or playing it in its current state
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, its early access and it seems every moron who commented forgot what that means. Devs just dropped and update, so once again, don't listen to the crackheads comment-bombing the game saying its "dead".
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has been in early access forever with hardly any updates. It seems the updates have stopped completely now, and the devs are radio silent. Game is still jank as hell. I would avoid this game like the plague.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's just really not that much to it. There's much better survival crafting games out there. The resource gathering bit isn't balanced or well done, the blueprint system is just strangely designed and implemented, and it's pretty much the same thing over and over again. While there's four tiers of research for you to do, each one is just more of the same with little feeling of actual progress. You don't get much in the way of armor upgrades until you're fully into the highest tier enemy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love the game, needs a flip boat option though, i keep making mine go upside down and cant flip it again. other than that, its a lot like the survival games without the PVP. i can save and come to it when i can ( great for people that have jobs and cant get on every day) music is i little 2 relaxing though. played plenty of hours (screen says 64) but it seems like even when you think you have explored everything something new is found. i do think they need to expand the world though a bit more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4.6 hours is about all I can muster to continue playing this. It lacks direction, it's repetitive, world is boring above and below the water, no dynamic weather system to speak of. Gameplay loop is stagnant. Development is like watching paint dry, but they just keep adding fresh coats while doing nothing so it never really dries in the end. I'm just glad I got it on sale. I wouldn't pay full price even as low as it is.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly can not recommend the game as it is. I want to give a mid review, but Steam doesn't allow. I've spent a good amount of time playing, and the biggest issues I'm seeing is a lack of enemy variety. Underwater is extremely bare-bones; there is basically no reason to go under the water after a couple hours of gameplay. It's not necessarily a bad game, it's a $10 game for a reason. The vehicle variety was nice. I did enjoy the Light Helicopter and it became a game-changer for getting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where do i start with this. the game has a good foundation for it, but so many of the little things are starting to add up and it just ruins the experience. the game has good bones but it's just not for me at this time. I'm not refunding it but ill wait for more updates. it's the small things that add up to make this game bad. the first thing is you burn through wood insanely fast. yes i know you can also gather wood at quite a fast rate as well, but it's still annoying when wood is used to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game saves for you but you are unable to load a saved file that isn't corrupted. waste of time. do not buy this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the overall gameplay and crafting progression. The art style is a little grungy for my taste the textures just kind of all blend together like rusty camo. The developers have put a tremendous effort in improving and expanding this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do I recommend this game? Yes, with a caveat; the game definitely still needs work, the animations are not the greatest, they are there mostly but kinda stiff. The achievements don't work as of this review, and some of the sound design could definitely use work, When you break down items it is quite loud compared to other actions and can make longer sessions less pleasant due to the sheer amount of times you have to listen to the loud banging. It is a fun game overall though, I found it after…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will start with this. After playing for 63 hours as of writing this the game has been good... Not amazing but good. There is a learning curd if you don't do any of the tutorial. There are also problems I have seen or have had while playing. Problems are... Hostile enemies shooting through objects players can't and or while underwater seeing you and shooting. Hostile enemy ships vanishing while leaving the crew in the air. Not being able to place lights or junction boxes on walls, ceilings,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunkenland is Stranded Deep if Stranded Deep got angry and started throwing enemies at me just to see if I scream. I played a few hours and somehow built a base that looks like a tax fraud investigation. Every time I try to relax someone shows up trying to turn me into fish food. I’m crafting, swimming, panicking and forgetting how buttons work. It’s janky in the best way and I already know I’m losing hundreds of hours to this thing. Send help. Or don’t. I live here now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I was excited about this at first (and for a while) This game QUICKLY becomes redundant after about 5 hours...yep, that's it. For those of you that only like to waste your days and weeks building and crafting and not actually going anywhere and accomplishing anything in a game...then this is for you. But for the rest of us who want story, content, continuation, challenge and substance....this game isn't it. It's been out a DAMN long time and the Devs just keep adding stupid ♥♥♥♥ to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game! The only thing I think might need rebalancing are the home base raids. I think they need to scale those back quite a bit. The harder levels come too soon for you to become geared enough to handle them I think. Otherwise, the exploration is awesome.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game for what it is currently and what it could be. However, I would not spend a dime on this game until they get a meaningful update out and actually patch the non respawning items and areas. Updates are way too slow, barely any communication from the devs. This is a small team, but smaller teams communicate more and update. Current videos and images are not a proper representation of the game currently.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MAKE SURE YOU SWITCH TO PUBLIC TEST 0.7. It fixes some of the bugs, and gives way more POI's than the base game version 0.6. It still is unfinished but its a pretty solid experience, I cant speak for multiplayer but it's a fun world to explore for a while. It hasnt been updated in while, last update was december 2025 for the PT server. There are very few survival games that offer this kind of unique experience. Think Waterworld.
