What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 95 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (177 of 235 positive).
Many players say the remaster offers minimal upgrades over the original. [1][2][3] Some reviewers recommend it only for new players or on sale. [4][5][6] Several posters criticize the 60 fps cap and lack of graphical improvements. [3][7][8]

I bought this expecting a real remaster on PC. Instead, it appears locked to 60 FPS with minimal technical upgrades. Feels more like a re-release with small QoL changes than a true remaster. I was excited, but Bandai Namco really disappointed here.

It's just Tales of Berseria with a very small handful of novelty addons, nothing game changing. Would've preferred a release that included something along the lines of cut content, better dungeons, and notably better graphics so I can't say this wasn't a little disappointing. It's still a good buy if you haven't played the original, probably not worth it otherwise unless you just really enjoyed the game.

Is this a "remaster"? No. It's basically a patch for the existing PC port. But this is one of the best Tales games of the modern era. Highly recommended. Engaging story, good music, great combat. If you dont already own this on PC, definitely worth it. Otherwise stick with the version you have.

Absolutely adored this game. Got it at the recommendation of a friend. The storytelling with you and the party being 'anti-heroes' is a welcome change of pace from the standard fare Hero's Journey. And the main cast in your party is probably in my Top 3 'main cast of characters in a game ever' (with FF7 and P4G) Combat is simple, yet fun. Being able to play as any of the party members is always nice, and I'm glad …

It really is not a remaster, its a re-release. that would be fine for next gen consoles but not for pc. The differences are barley noticeable if at all and the fact they kept it locked to 60fps instead of unlocking to at least 120 is dumb as well. If you dont own the original, then its a fine buy but if you own the original, dont really bother unless its on a massive sale.
Summarised from 34 of the 146 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
78% of the 95 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Tales of Berseria Remastered. The complaint that keeps coming up: capped at 60 fps with no higher refresh rate. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm gonna finish this because it's my favorite tales game, but this is a cash grab. This could have been a patch, there are basically no technical reasons it couldn't have been. Day 1 level up DLC when they give you other means to level up quick basically confirms this. $40 for a game including features you can already mod in for a 10 year old game is crazy energy, $60 for the deluxe edition is basically a war crime. Calling something a "remaster" with no "re" or "master" is weird.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has audio issues that need to be addressed before I can recommend it. It isn't mastered and there doesn't seem to be a limiter or compressor on any of the audio. Sometimes Velvet is so quiet you cannot hear her and others she is so loud that I cover my ears in pain. All at the same audio settings. The music is so quiet that you can hardly hear it against the sound, and this is independent of any settings you can change. The story seems to be well written and less childish than…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would not call this a remaster. What did we get here ? Poor AI upscaling Screen tearing. Dualsense support via third party program (Honestly the only reason to get this instead of the original) Minor QoL improvements.. Grade shop from the start (should have stayed a first clear unlock) No badge despite the original having one. I'll liekly refund this as it is not worth 60 bucks (not 40 either).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Remastered" and it's a port of the exact same decade old game but priced at 40$!!! And crashes way more often!!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is claimed to be steam deck verified, but for my steam deck OLED it was incredibly unstable. It did not run for more than 15 minutes without crashing completely. It crashed 3 times in 30 minutes. I cut my losses and got a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →60 fps locked, the only way to play this garbage over 60 is with lossless scaling.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm honestly not sure what is remastered about this. The videos have visibly worse encoding (lots of color banding where there was none previously), this port retains the narrative censorship introduced by the original's Western release, and there's really nothing about the actual art assets that implies there was any remastering done. There're some added Quality of Life features that are fine but they are basically a free update at best. It's good this is technically a price decrease compared…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No 120 FPS option even though some parts were ported to Unity. FMVs with inferior quality and major audio balance issues, especially in battles. A remaster that is worse in many ways. I don't think that slightly upscaled textures, objective indicators, DX11 renderer and 4K UI justify this game's existence on PC. It should be a patch for the original build. This is the second Bandai game I've written a negative review for in less than a month. I really like this game, but there's no way to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you recently played the original, don't bother. If you played the original ages ago, and have endless money, maybe..... If you never played the original yes buy this. Here is everything you need to know: https://youtu.be/U4uY9L_NmVE
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I own the original here on Steam. So, here's my take on the remaster. Pros: Looks slightly cleaner Refresh goes up to 120hz Feels smooth without any hitching or stutters There are more map markers, like treasure chests You can start the game with modifiers Cons: Should have been a patch Price Can't import old saves Verdict: It's still one of the best Tales games. It's actually wild that the "un" remaster is more expensive. If you own the non remaster, it might be worth picking up just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for this as I own the original + DLC and very much enjoyed my time with Tales of Beseria. I did not experience any technical issues per say. The 60 fps lock seems odd to me as I can run the original above 60. Visually the og running at 75 fps/75 hrz looks and runs far better than the "remaster". I refunded as this feels like a underbaked and minimal effort release. Of note I got the deluxe edition, this version is not worth the price tag.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game so far... Thing is the game is broken. Right before you get get your 5th character the game starts crashing every once in awhile. After getting your 5th character, the game crashes every 5-10 minutes making it unplayable. This is well outside of the 2 hours refund window that Steam allows. Really wish Valve would check and make sure the games they sell would work start to end before taking money from ppl for them....

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is quite good so far, but the screentearing without vsync is bad and when vsync is on it runs flawlessly for like 40 minutes and then starts having constant microstuttering for the rest of the session. I'll happily give the game a positive review if you put some care into your 40 dollar product and fix that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never played the original so I was really happy to hear they were doing a remaster but sadly to see yet again it's not a remaster, more of a quality of life improvement.... And it's sad because visuals go a long way for me, make older games look better and I'm sold... Try this cash grab and ... well yeah unfortunately stole my money but I really hope they learn from all the hate they have been getting, it's completely justified
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tested for 5 mins Sound glitchy on my computer during intro and gameplay 60 FPS cap and I expected smooth gameplay when I pre-ordered I love the game, but this Remastered version is disappointing technically 60 FPS may not be a big deal for everybody, but to me it is Refunded

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my favorite "Tales of" game in the series, so this review is a bit biased. It is quite literally the same game from the original 2017 release, with very minor differences. These minor differences are barely noticeable from first glance. I found myself purchasing the remastered version because it is $10 cheaper than the original release. You could argue that this is a cash grab. Personally, I looked at this as a fresh start and to get all the achievements. My only issue is obviously…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this without playing the original, but it’s pretty crazy to see a 2026 Steam release launch without proper keyboard-and-mouse support. The game constantly displays the wrong inputs. It tells me to press the up arrow when it actually means left click, or to press Enter to interact when left click works. It feels like the game expects you to use a controller or somehow play with both hands on the keyboard while pretending mice don’t exist. The lack of ultrawide support is also…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. If you already have Tales of Berseria, you dont need to buy this. Its more of a port. Not an actual graphical remaster. Just a little QoL added.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is the second game in thumbs down this is all stuff they could have put in the original. Now if you dont have the game this is the one ofc but the first one is as good same graphics. Money talks loyalty walks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Berseria Remastered is coming on February 26! You can play it on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam!
neutral · AI labelView post →I bought the game after enjoying the original port. Oddly enough, this remaster needs more updates to stabilize and address bugs. Coupled with the fact that I couldn't get the resolution to switch on my Steam Deck, other reviews are showing valid concern. Futhermore, having DLC to buy is odd considering some of the other remasters don't have that. Please fix these issues Bamco.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm glad I reached the end of Tales of Berseria. Getting there was a struggle. Velvet, the party chemistry, the English dub and the skits completely won me over. I genuinely wanted to spend more time with these characters. Unfortunately, nearly every gameplay system fought against that. Traversal is painfully slow, dungeons drag on, enemies are everywhere, and the combat never really clicked for me. Eventually I enabled the Grade Shop's 6× EXP just so I could focus on the part I actually…

positive · AI labelView post →Velvet, I love you and I'll rebuy your game as many times as they lazily re-release it It's a release mostly for the asian market and consoles, it's almost inoffensive on pc and techinically an improvement over the original, but only because of that port's failings and should probably have been cheaper or basically free for owners of the original. That said, if you dont own Berseria, maybe, get this one. If you do... It depends on how much you value not needing the fanfix for say, comfort…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Berseria Remastered has its QoL improvements, but any changes beyond that are still so minimal. That, coupled with being a very good game, made for perhaps the most conflicting review I’ve done to date: youtu.be/cRt2eMGbJQ0?...
neutral · AI labelView post →Tales of Berseria Remastered announced for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC - Gematsu.
neutral · AI labelView post →good game, should be a couple dollars cheaper that's all. anyone that complains about it don't know the difference between remaster and remake and you don't need more than 60fps for a story game even though that is a downside i can admit but that's the only issue i personally see and it is an unproblematic issue as well, i'm writing this review after my first session of the game which is 4 hours in one sitting as it was a very enjoyable experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worth it on Steam only if you don't have the original. Wait for a sale. The game itself is a classic, but the remaster did not adds much, and made some things (audio, animations) a lil bit worse. There is some packed DLC on this remaster.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dropped after twenty hours. Berseria had a strong start, but everything about its presentation and characterizations in large part screams 'generic RPG' with no concrete identity to set itself apart. The main cast felt like cardboard cutouts, each too motivated by a singlular purpose that it couldn't get me invested into them as anything beyond archetypes. The combat felt responsive once I got it, but like Rune Factory Azuma it just got repetitive after a while with no real challenge. I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10.) Tales of Berseria Remastered Might be my favorite playable cast in the series, and despite a few middling components (equipment), a huge rebound from Zestiria all around. Soul gauge combat improves throughout the game. I had forgotten how cathartic the "Will You STOP WHINING?!" cutscene is.
positive · AI labelView post →This is my first time ever properly experiencing a tales of game honestly... bloody impactful
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are changes to the remastered version. Mostly to the menus. Also to the story. They are more fixes than anything else. It seems to have stability issues when going to a new area, but in total, I am pleased with what they have done. Both versions work great on Steam Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wrote up some thoughts on Tales of Berseria Remastered's Switch port (including S2 testing) based on the opening hours for @rpgsite.net. I pre-ordered it on the JP eShop to play it ASAP and I wish this one was better on Switch 2 at least: www.rpgsite.net/feature/1971...
neutral · AI labelView post →It's good but if you can get the orignal version of the game cheaper get that one. Otherwise the story is great the characters are well made and the combat is pretty good to.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Faster load times and more fluid battle mechanics coupled with the free grade system for those of us who have beaten the original a billion times, this remaster has been a blast! I'm still collecting cat souls and the ability to turn off battles is incredibly helpful for those of us who are trying to do everything possible in a decent amount of time. I've been reading complaints because it wasn't Abyss however I think the update and timing of the update considering Xillia was before it was a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Likes: - if you like vengeance-themed plot for a narrative, this will be your game. - for new players that never played this game before, this version has all the DLCs - not sore for grinding since player has early access to grade shop - for those who played the first version of the game, this has auto-save and cutscene skipper. Cons: - capped at 60 fps - little to no graphical improvement - no new mechanics or location so expect what comes from the old version, stays in the new…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good remaster, the FPS cap is somewhat annoying but the QoL and all DLCs being included makes it worth buying. It's also cheaper than the original 2016 release so definitely purchase this remaster if you haven't played the original.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game. Consistent presentation, lovely animation, good story end to end (consistency of storytelling is confirmed by chat gpt). Chat Gpt prompt about consistency of storytelling is due to some disappointment in second half of Takes of Arise game, after that experience I wanted to make sure the story is good end to end. Never played Tales of Berseria game before but had mixed feelings about Tales of Arise. Solid 60 fps on a Steam Deck Oled, on a large screen graphics might look dated.…

neutral · AI labelView post →EDITED on March `9, 2026 The game is decent for people who have not played the game before or has not owned the original game. As in the original game, the remastered edition keeps the great story, smooth combat system, great character design and other merits. Some new features in the remastered edition are particularly useful: 1. Quickly pick up items that have been seen before without showing the item description again. 2. Showing available sub-events at the top right of the menu. 3.…

I really enjoyed the direction it went and the new additions, while small, made gameplay a blast. Check it out below! Hope you enjoy!
positive · AI labelView post →Holy memory leak Batman! A 0.1 increase every second? Proton 9 and jemalloc fix it. 120 frames causes microstutters so keep it at 60.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Putting aside the lazy remaster they did of the game, this game it's one of those JRPGs that feels corny and makes you cringe a little. Maybe it's the way the characters dress mixed with the way they talk, but I can't take them seriously. And this whole plot about the weak or sick brother at the beginning, I think I've seen it in three different games. Besides, the gameplay is like an amalgamation of mechanics from different genres that when put them together, don't feel smooth at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As I’m slowly approaching the end of the main story, I already feel confident enough to give my verdict: Tales of Berseria Remastered is one of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played. Before diving into the details, I want to clarify that I’ve only played this version and have no experience with the original release. I am aware that, compared to the previous version on Steam, many players feel that the changes aren’t significant enough to justify the price of a remaster. I can’t properly judge that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Berseria is an action JRPG game about revenge with a focus on storytelling. It was also a reboot of the Tales series. The game has one of the best writing I have seen in video games so far, which is reflected in the story and character development. The story seems to be a simple revenge story, but is surprisingly complex due to the interconnected characters, extensive world building, and lore (especially the concept of malaks and malevolence). With only minor improvements, the…
