Many players praise the game's grim atmosphere and survival-focused campaign. [1][2][3] Several reviewers highlight the Lord of the Rings mod as a major reason to buy. [4][5][6] Some players criticize the game for poor optimization and performance issues. [7][8][9]

This game had a potential to be good. I like overall feeling of grand campaigns. Razing and burning cities is fun. But its a shame that CA abandoned it and didn't fix nothing after all this years. Attila looks and runs really bad compared to shogun 2 or rome 2. I done everything you can to fix performance manually and with mods, spend a lot of time on it. But its still runs worst than any other modern total war game …

Ah yes, Attila. The most notoriously poorly optimized total war... yet one of the best ever made. This game is a challenge.... it will take steel and blood.... (proverbial) to hold the empire together! For this game, I recommend for users with more modern hardware to use process lasso, a program that governs the game to run on your performance cpu cores only.... the game engine likes to bottleneck otherwise. Be sure …

This is not the game for you If you want a strategy and tactics game that somehow captures the spirit of the dark souls franchise? This is the game for you. If you really hate your maidenless self? Start as the western roman empire first. This is the odd game out in many ways for total war. your goal is …

Total War: Attila is probably the grimmest, most oppressive, and weirdly beautiful strategy game Creative Assembly ever made. Most strategy games make expansion feel inevitable. Attila makes collapse feel inevitable, and that completely changes the psychology of how you play. You are not building a shining empire at the height of civilization. You are trying to survive the slow-motion end of the world while …

Bought this just to play the Lord of the Rings Mod called "The Dawnless Days". Its amazing.

Critics, per Wikipedia
Total War: Attila received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Dan Griliopoulos from PC Gamer gave the game 83/100, praising the in-game representation of history, enjoyable multiplayer, stunning music, animation and sound-effect, improved army and character management as well as the themes, which he stated "has reflected the era accurately" and the new family system, which adds new complexity into the game. He also praised the developer for fixing the long-term problems in the series. However, he criticized the extreme difficulty, AI problem, laggy chat in multiplayer, frame rate issues and bugs. He concluded the game by saying that "[Total War:…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Discussing games with a friend, why I keep going back to FALLOUT 4; I finally clarified that my ideal game is "THE SIMS with occasional firefights" and that's a limited marketplace. STATE OF DECAY 2, a bit. I'd take a TOTAL WAR with base management but a smaller -- oh shit it's CULT OF THE LAMB.
neutral · AI labelView post →AI slop is impacting all of our lives in different ways but the more recent way it has broken my heart is watching Creative Assembly ruin the Total War franchise with it with their rerelease of Shogun 2. I can only imagine how fucked their 40k game is going to look when it comes out.
negative · AI labelView post →Paused my game mid battle to say this is the easiest total war ever made. I only just started and these cowardly nomads are already running away. All I have to do now is leave my position to give chase and victory will be mine!

If you're like me, and I know I am, you like learning stuff about the Romance of the Three Kingdoms but find its scale and massive cast of characters kinda daunting. Total War Three Kingdoms makes the setting playable!

OpenMorrowind took like 20 years and that game’s assets were already accessible so excuse me if I go “lol wut no.”
neutral · AI labelView post →I can understand why many players consider Attila one of the best Total War games. The atmosphere, the setting and the feeling of a collapsing world are excellent. However, I strongly disagree with the way the Huns are implemented. My issue is not that they are powerful. A late-game existential threat is perfectly fine. The problem is that they often seem disconnected from the same strategic limitations the player faces. In my campaign I destroyed multiple Hun armies in a single turn. The…

Can't say I've experienced anything game breaking ... Maybe some extra bad AI path-finding but that's always been there. Excited for Rise of Mordor this Friday!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main reason I bought this game was to enjoy the Medieval Kingdoms 1212AD mods rather than waiting for Total War Medieval 3, which is still uncertain. Vanilla alone is great, WRE/ERE are a big challenge. The Sassanids were much easier and felt like old-school Total War. DLC like Age of Charlemagne is a good time; it's the closest you can get to Medieval 3 without using mods. The game is a bit under-optimized, but there's a way to make the game's performance very optimized! Performance…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly I love this game. I only have 89 hours of play time, but it would be more. Sadly, the reason for that is its hard to play this game with all the game crashing bugs. Rome 2 and Shogun 2 have been my favorites so far, but Attila would surpass them if the game would just run. If its not crashing from trying to open the family/politics tab because there are too many characters or from just crashing ending your turn, then this game would easily have over 1k hours from me since I got it last…

While the base game offers a dark and grueling survival campaign, the 1212 AD mod transforms this game into a majestic medieval sandbox—practically a fan-made Medieval 3. Key Highlights: 1.Medieval 3 in disguise: The depth, unit models, and mechanics feel like an official full-price title. 2.Stunning Unit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Dawnless Days is an absolutely fantastic Lord of the Rings mod ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the very first battle, you feel like you are standing in the middle of the war for Gondor. The atmosphere is dense, dramatic, and unmistakably Tolkien. The lovingly crafted campaigns and custom battles are a must for every Lord of the Rings fan. Each army feels distinct, with units that clearly reflect their lore, strengths, and weaknesses. Elves fight like Elves, Orcs feel brutal and expendable, and the armies…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Relatively fun, sort of the same classic Rome 2 era of total war. Probably stray away if your PC has parts made within the decade. If you want to play, you need to go into your ini file and mess with the processor affinity of the .exe to make the game not run horribly. Big shoutout to Creative Assembly for creatively failing to assemble a game that can run properly.

neutral · AI labelView post →Nope, not a great Total War game. I came to Attila expecting a game at the level of quality of Rome 2. And I really like the time period, I wanted to like this game, but after playing it I understand why Total War Attila is not so beloved in the community. While I like the setting I also feel like the setting is lacking: - The 395 start date with the West-Roman Empire split is great, but for some reason religion is split into Catholic & Orthodox too, someone forgot to tell the devs the schism…
