Many players praise the remaster for preserving the classic feel while adding updated graphics and new features. [1][2][3] Some reviewers complain about a poor UI that is harder to use than the original. [4][5][6] A few players report technical issues like crashes, anti-cheat problems, and Windows 11 incompatibility. [7][8][9]

I love that you have to run an anti-cheat with this that ♥♥♥♥♥ up your game (usually locks your input) with no way of turning it off when you're playing A SINGLEPLAYER GAME!!! In order to fix it, you either have to set your system clock to 2020 or before or run a program to do that just for the game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTr0O0zhxm4) to ♥♥♥♥ up the already ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up anti-cheat. As a fan of the original, i was hesitant to try this. But it does have much the same feel and charm as the original, along with updated graphics and new features. It was a great purchase, and has a great modding community.

Rome Total War is a timeless strategy masterpiece that still stands above anything else ive experienced. It blends epic large scale battles with empire management. For me, this is the best game ive ever played. I have enjoyed it for over half of my life and I dont plan on stopping anytime soon. Few games create memories like this one, and for that reason this will be a game I always come back to.

The remaster is nice, but it's not perfect. A lot of the problems come from it being a reskin of a 2004 game. So, you get new graphics mixed with old mechanics. Here's an example: enemies just stand there while your archers shoot all their arrows at them. They often leave themselves exposed or send their general on a crazy charge right into your spears. Diplomacy could really use an update too. Alliances mean …

Great update to the old classic. Been playing since the original came out. Still a fun historical game. My son now plays.

STATE OF DECAY 2, a bit. I'd take a TOTAL WAR with base management but a smaller -- oh shit it's CULT OF THE LAMB.
neutral · AI labelView post →AI slop is impacting all of our lives in different ways but the more recent way it has broken my heart is watching Creative Assembly ruin the Total War franchise with it with their rerelease of Shogun 2. I can only imagine how fucked their 40k game is going to look when it comes out.

neutral · AI labelView post →There is enough historical precedent for this that it is a persistent game mechanic in Total War lol

neutral · AI labelView post →Of course, we must remaster games because it's free money. But is Rome Remastered actually any good? Not really. Rome Remastered represents an incredible opportunity to fix the problems which always plagued the original. But we find that nothing has been done. The unit control is the same. Pathfinding issues will persist. Larger unit sizes are much more immersive and fun to play with on the field, but you'll want to end it all when you take them to sieges. I love waiting thirty minutes for…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty much the same game as the original, with updated graphics but downgraded UI. However, they completely missed the mark on the single-most important issue that caused all of us Roman Emperors, to stop playing that game each time after a while: Squalor!! The (not so) good ol' days, where you had to abandon your own hard-fought settlements just to re-invade them to quelch the unrest, are still very much alive. And as I used to do about 20 years ago, I have now yet again uninstalled this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Inferior to the original version in my opinion. UI is horrendous by comparison and the map has been updated to look very cartoony.

neutral · AI labelView post →I played the Original for more than 15 years, and in this new one the interface is honestly ♥♥♥♥. The menus and everything. The army recruitment is so small my glasses need glasses. No I couldn't get 1 hour of gameplay, going back to the original.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't fix it if it ain't broken. The UI changes just make no sense managing settlements and army's takes a few extra click every time compared to the original game. The AI has defently been improved a little but I can't bring my self to play this when I can just play the original or medieval II. Over all the game is fine its Rome but the UI is just a absolute letdown. Would recommend to skip this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yoooo Total War Three Kingdoms is (one of) the Epic Games Free Game for today! If you're like me, and I know I am, you like learning stuff about the Romance of the Three Kingdoms but find its scale and massive cast of characters kinda daunting. Total War Three Kingdoms makes the setting playable!

neutral · AI labelView post →Pointless remake. The things that could have been improved are ignored, and the things that are 'improved' are somehow made worse. The graphics look like a cartoon filter or some kind of whiteboard program you would have seen in school. The UI was fine before. Why would I want to see my spies every time I click on a city? I'm there to build and recruit, not check on the counterspy I put there 50 turns ago. He's doing fine. He knows his way around the place. For some reason, a horse that was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to try and help mod Medieval Total War II and fucking EVERYTHING in that game is close-sourced and impossible to work around and yet people did it anyways. OpenMorrowind took like 20 years and that game’s assets were already accessible so excuse me if I go “lol wut no.”
neutral · AI labelView post →I really can't recommend this version of Rome. The Pros: - The new units details is a decent addition - The ability to play night battles has been added to the main game and not just the expansion - Higher resolution - Modern battlefield controls from CA's recent games - Steam Workshop The Cons: - The entire game feels like like it was made for an Ipad (Which it probably is) - The campaign map is very cartoony and looks worse than the original that's almost 20 years old - The UI is…

neutral · AI labelView post →Back on the Steam page for Total War: SHOGUN 2 - Complete Edition and have only just clocked the user-defined tags (pictured below). LOL. Context: The game was pulled because it was naff and apparently failed to disclose the use of genAI.

neutral · AI labelView post →The question rises: who asked for this overpriced cash grab? It’s a barely functional coat of paint over a 20-year-old game. While the original's core strategic brilliance is still faintly visible, the remaster manages to smother it with poor design choices. The new UI is an atrocious, clunky mess that is somehow less intuitive than the original's 2004 interface, making the management of provinces a chore rather than a pleasure. Of course, the infamous unit pathfinding issues are still present,…

The UI alone is enough to make me want to throw myself into a hot furnace. Genuinely the worst UI of any game I have ever played. There are other issues but the UI is the biggest. Should have just kept the original and just upscaled it. Don't buy this, play the original with REX, it's better.

positive · AI labelView post →In game Wiki and additional information tab is completely broken and bugged. They are not fixing it and its been broken for years, completely immersion breaking and a clear lack of intelligence and effort on the devs part. Imagine releasing a remaster that is worse than the original. Find a key for the original Rome Totalwar, avoid this one like the diseased mess it is. neutral · AI labelView post →the ui is so bad, even at 120% scaled feel like i need prescription glasses and if i could see it, still looks terrible and confusing original was intuitive and pleasing this is a mess
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A UI so bad it needs a remaster of the remaster already. Controls that glitch out , UI resolution issue and an AI worse than GROK. I had rose tinted glasses on this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really can't recommend this game when so many other Total War Titles are available. I get that this is an old game remastered, I bought it for that reason. But revisiting it later, I can see why I never stuck with it. Diplomacy means nothing in this game: the AI will literally offer alliances, trade, map information, etc. They will even ask for you to become their protectorate, only to immediate attack you within the same turn with a doomstack they seemingly spawned out of nowhere. I spent…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Creative Assembly / SEGA just released a "remaster" of a 2011 game (Total War: Shogun 2) that appeared to be mostly done by AI, complete with six-fingered samurai art and new code with game-breaking bugs. 48 hours and a 17% positive review score later, they're pulling it from all stores.
