What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 245 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (125,705 of 147,826 positive).
Players praise the satisfying melee combat and co-op gameplay. [1][2][3] Some note issues with peer-to-peer hosting and bot AI. [4][5][6] The game is considered a worthy successor to Left 4 Dead. [7][8][9]

Do not buy this game in 2026 expecting a modern co-op experience. Before launch, the developers (Fatshark) explicitly promised dedicated servers. They took our money, abandoned that promise entirely to move on to Darktide, and left Vermintide 2 permanently rotting on a broken Peer-to-Peer (P2P) hosting system. What does this mean for you? If the host player disconnects, crashes, or rages quits at the very last …

Weighty melee, satisfying headshots, and a steady flow of loot-driven progression. The co-op loop is excellent with friends, and every career feels distinct. Level design and enemy variety keep the tension high. Prime “one more run” energy.

Vermintide 2 delivers some of the best melee combat in co-op gaming. Every swing has weight, every push buys space, and sound cues tell you exactly when a special is about to ruin your day. Careers feel distinct, talent choices matter, and the difficulty staircase is built so that yesterday’s chaos becomes tomorrow’s muscle memory. Progression is generally satisfying, though chasing perfect reds or specific …

Vermintide 2 is one of those rare games that knows exactly what it wants to be and fully commits to it. The combat is the obvious highlight — heavy, brutal, and endlessly satisfying. Every swing feels deliberate, every horde feels threatening, and when things go wrong it turns into pure, controlled chaos that somehow never stops being fun. I mostly play it with my wife and friends, and that’s where the game really …

I love it when bots stops moving just to watch the massive green tornado on the distance please update bots, i avoid playing with people because i dont want to bother them with my slow loading time

Players who liked Warhammer: Vermintide 2 talk about excellent melee combat with weighty hits; those who didn't talk about peer-to-peer hosting causes disconnects and lost progress. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received generally positive reviews from critics according to review aggregator platform Metacritic. Tom Marks, writing from IGN, wrote positively about the game, comically praising it on the creative forms of dismemberment that the players can participate in against the "ratmen", one of the primary antagonists of the game, and lack of microtransactions, which he compares favorably against Star Wars: Battlefront II. PC Gamer declared the title the best cooperative game of 2018. Destructoid called it "an improvement over its predecessor" and praised the "beautifully designed sprawling levels, more varied enemy types, an addictive loot system, and a whole lot of character skills to…

neutral · AI labelView post →Really enjoying Warhammer 40K: Boltgun II. Level design is so much better than the first game, and encounters feel way more engaging because of it. Still wish the playable characters would actually talk/emote, but regardless, the emperor would be pleased!
neutral · AI labelView post →No issues on Linux. Pretty well optimised too – I got buttery smooth experience on PC with highest settings in 4K. It's a lot of fun with friends, and a decent bit of fun playing solo with bots, but a hit&miss when playing with strangers online. Voice chat works great. What I don't like in single player, is that at some point you need to re-play previous levels as every character, so that your bots had good enough gear and level / talents in order to beat more difficult missions. Versus mode is…

Massive rusting cybergothic space trawlers dragging chaos-warped gigawhales out of the stygian abyss of the ocean. Tyranid shark-fleets. I decided to pick up the game again after it was given for free to all who wanted it, wanting to see if the game was actually fun or it was just me. I ended up putting up around 2k hours in this game from my initial 30ish hours. I found the gameplay loop to be extremely satisfying, I put myself into difficult…

neutral · AI labelView post →I got this on sale for an excellent 95% off for 1.29, but the game itself was just not for me. The voice acting and writing for the 5 main characters is fantastic. They did a great job with the dysfunctional group you play as. But it's just not that fun. It's kinda bland. The game has a focus on melee attacks, which means that most of your attacks are just swinging and that's it. There's ranged weapons but not much ammo. If you want different weapons, you have to play a lot more of the…

Champions and higher difficulties need a better understanding about the game mechanics to conquer. Beating the legendary difficult with bots is a satisfactory experience. Others are mainly grinding, but you will need those practices to be familiar with…

New dlc would release that breaks the SFO(Steel Faith Overhaul) mod this guy makes, a couple weeks later the mod would update bringing the new content up to par with the rest of the mod. I never minded because I could just play the new content in vanilla for a campaign or two and the mod has always been of a high caliber rivaling…

The graphics are shiny-pretty, the combat is fast-choppy, and smashing rat skulls never gets old-boring. The story is interesting enough to keep the slaughter moving, but the real joy comes from carving a path through endless hordes of…
