Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 207 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (7,355 of 8,867 positive).
Many find the game rewarding once mastered, with a steep learning curve that punishes mistakes. [1][2][3]

This game is fun, its got a lot of charm that i look for in other games, i like that it allows you to really push your units to extremes, so much so that you can make characters that one-turn entire bosses. The problem lies in the run after, when you're expected to defeat the god card that won your last run. Essentially, once you hit a certain power level or create a strong enough combo, you've ruined all of your …

I have been playing Wildfrost ever since its launch. There used to be balance issues such as turn 0 infinites or practically invincible final bosses, but those have been patched out. What remains is an extremely good roguelike. Wildfrost punishes every single mistake you make. You misjudged the turn order? Dead. You overlooked an enemy's special effect? Dead. You failed to anticipate how the boss will pressure you …

I think that every roguelike deckbuilder has that "oh I get it now" moment where playing the game pretty much becomes second nature like breathing and I think hitting that moment is the most rewarding part of any roguelike, especially with this game. I think that Wildfrost's barrier of entry can be quite steep but it is absurdly rewarding to master this game, as soon as you get over that hurdle of understanding how …

If you like roguelike deckbuilders, this game has it all. The mechanics focused on the turn timer and positioning of your units is easy to learn, but hard to master, and is the main standout that makes wildfrost as unique as it is, therefore: Interesting, very unique mechanics: check Upbeat, nice background music: check Good sound and visual effects: check Very distinct and cute artstyle: check Rng that feels pretty …

Probably my favorite roguelike deckbuilder. Not as hard as launch, but still a decent challenge (especially with the ascension-like mechanic) The game is pretty easy to understand, and most of your deaths will come from small miscalculations and missed interactions. Imo, it's never unfair, but it can be really frustrating for new players. Take your time and try to undertand what you missed after every loss. Music …
Summarised from 34 of the 354 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 10, 2026. How summaries are made
89% of the 207 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Wildfrost. The complaint that keeps coming up: steep learning curve can be frustrating. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Wildfrost received positive reviews on Metacritic. PC Gamer wrote that the game had a "perfect balance of accessibility and strategic depth" and praised the art style, which it said gives it "buckets of personality". Though Rock Paper Shotgun said luck sometimes seems to play too much of a role, they called it "a genuinely fun game, with charming details and rewarding tactical combat". Siliconera said it "suffers from some balance issues", but they said it is "a game as beautiful, cruel, and cold as its sunless environment".

You can bring a limited amout of units to each fight, who you can customize in the run with charms (the same you can do with spells). Each card can have a max of 3 Charms so you can do a lot of interesting combinations. Give your tank unit a charm for multistrike, one for retaliate and one where they get a shield whenever they kill an enemy and you have created a super strong unit. There are countless different combinations…

Not because of the gameplay, but because Chucklefish has refused to pay people who worked on their games before, hiring them as unpaid interns with promises of further employment and crediting, only to fire them and not give credit for their work. While I'm not entirely sure if that applies to this game, it's best to be safe. I'm past the refund point for this, so I'm stuck, but it's best to let everyone know.

positive · AI labelView post →so, I'm playing this fun deckbuilder game called Wildfrost. One card attacks every time an ally is sacrificed. When dead allies come back they have ability debuffs. But one of our allies has 1/1 stats, so they can't be debuffed after he's sacrificed. So I've basically made a human sacrifice machine

When I first bought Slay The Spire, I thought I was going to hate it. Never been much into deckbuilding games, roguelites even less. I ended up absolutely loving the game. Building unique fun decks, adapting to the RNG, planning a way to beat the heart. I loved every second of it. I spent 500 hours on the game so far. I beat A20 with every character, completed every achievement.…

positive · AI labelView post →Quite a unique spin on the deckbuilder roguelike/roguelite/roguewhatever genre. It plays REALLY different from Slay the Spire, Balatro and similar games but at the same time it scratches the same itch. Also I think MegaCrit (Slay the Spire company) kinda yoinked some ideas from this game for STS2. STS2 allows you to augment some of your cards with events, like making them do more damage, draw 2 cards when played, etc. This is basically the same thing as the Charms in Wildfrost. But Wildfrost…

This game gives you very uneven choices for deck building. You have to force some keywords/ very few archtypes for each tribe to survive otherwise the enemy scaling…

neutral · AI labelView post →Lots of potential, but there really should be a "preview turn" mechanic. (Some of the mechanics are randomized, but then it should just show a random run or something.) The amount of mechanics, especially mechanics that are not explained well enough to predict the first time around, that are relevant for a single turn is too large to simulate in my head. Multiple times I've lost because I thought I had the perfect turn and it turns out that I mis-understood some order of operations. If this…

neutral · AI labelView post →The incredible level of visual polish kept me going for a bit, but mechanically it feels like it's missing something. Losses feel unfair more often than not as you get bad rolls on characters and enemy types. Sometimes it feels like the game is counter-picking your strategy with enemy groups your team has no chance against despite being prepared for nearly every other battle. Other times an enemy will apply a debuff that has a teammate randomly targeting your main unit and ending the run…

neutral · AI labelView post →I don't like this game because they don't do predictions themselves for damage and it's too time consuming to play this manually calculating everything. Slay the spire doesn't have this sort of issue as there's far less going on in a round. Play monster train instead if you're also not interested in calculating everything else out yourself every round.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very visually polished game. They clearly put thought into the mechanics and accessibility options. But there's one major flaw that's core to the game's design. The commander card is your lose condition. There are too many area attacks, counter attacks, and reflects. As a tactics gamer, it's infuriating seeing my commander is next to attack and will hit something that will kill it in retribution. You can switch them to another lane, but when it's a big boss, or there are multiple…

I actually discovered this game on Spotify, as I was listening to the STS soundtrack and the algorithm picked up a track from this game a bit later on - and it blew my mind how melodic it was, had me bopping before I could stop and say "Wait, what is THIS?". I immediately purchased and installed the game, and to my surprise, it lived up to the hype of the soundtrack. Wildfrost is an incredibly fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SUCH a gem. This game is a wonderful spin on the rogue-like genre. The idea of having to overdo/outwit your past self to continue on is simply delightful!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is challenging to be sure, but it doesn't feel unfair. There's tremendous input randomness, but very low output randomness. After you play a card, the board follows a fixed pattern to resolve itself. With this in mind, you can envision the state of the board after the turn finishes and plan accordingly. As a result, whenever you die, it doesn't feel like the game is BS, it feels like it's your own fault and you can reflect on your decisions, identify what got you killed, and improve…

positive · AI labelView post →I've played Wildfrost, but I don't feel confident in recommending it, because it's quite hard and very RNG-based. But, maybe that's your thing. Honestly, I played it just for the art style lol
neutral · AI labelView post →The most painful game I ever played, but DAMN if it doesn't feel rewarding when you win. Genuinely one of the funnest deckbuilders out there. Though it can feel unfair ... until you realize everything you could have done as you gain experience. Not for the faint of heart, it deserves it's reputation as one of the hardest.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wildfrost is probably the easiest game of its genre to understand. It's a good thing that part's easy, because completing a run will prove to be a difficult endeavor, requiring your complete attention at some points. The difficulty modifier bells give the player many options for how they want to tackle their challenges and the artstyle and music make the game exceed your expectations.
