I LOVE THIS GAME! I really REALLY hate that cant recommend the game :( Artwork is good (though the heads on the characters are a little small), I like the construction plan stages that are involved in setting things up. The community loves the world you’ve built, but the Vikings need brains to match their brawn. I write reviews infrequently, so a game must be truly compelling for me to dedicate time to writing one. Aska is such a game. As a fan of survival-crafting games and, to a lesser extent, city builders, I began Aska with few preconceptions. To call it a pleasant surprise is a profound understatement. Can't recommend this game, which really makes me sad because it's got a lot of promise, but it just can't deliver. Nearly 500 hours in. Playing off-and-on for over a year with my wife. The game seems designed to stop you from actually accomplishing your goals. Yeah, that sounds harsh, and it took me a while to start believing it, but ever since, every single decision matches up with that. Villager AI is not just stupid - it's diabolical - but it's "not a priority" to fix. One example - I…

I had a great time with ASKA—at least until the combat started. The parts I really enjoy are crafting and managing NPCs. Assigning them to tasks and watching the settlement grow feels rewarding and well-designed. Unfortunately, the combat completely kills the fun for me. It feels sluggish and unresponsive, and the dodge delay makes it frustrating to avoid hits. On top of that, the enemy stuns just make the experience even more tedious. If the developers can rework or improve the combat…

Very unfortunately cannot recommend this game. It has a lot of potential as a really nice colony sim, but the villager AI is exceptionally bad and there are no good ways to avoid a lot of their hitches. Fully enclosed, comfy homes with comfy beds, plenty of food, plenty of water? They'll find ways to die of starvation, complain about being tired, and die of thirst no matter what you do to their schedules. Resources are a pain to manage, with even the simple act of picking up resources being…

So this game came as recommended after beating Valheim and Vrising and Oh boy ..... This feels like you build a kindergarden for mentally impaired vikings, half the time you spend here is managing their needs rather than actually playing the game. You'll spend your days looking for the crystal meth clusters so you can summon more villagers for them to take care of the problems other villagers have, but in the process creating new problems that will need to be filled by new villagers... -MF…

Edit: They have since updated the game to include custom game options. I will get around to giving the game another go in the future for this reason, but right now I read a lot of people talking about the AI, micromanaging and bugs, which was the other thing that made me put this game down last time. I will give it a bit more time to cook before I try it again, and see if that changes my feelings about the game, but I wanted to include this information meantime since custom game options…

First thing - the elephant in the room that many reviews seem to be discussing: Valheim. Many other reviews seem to fall into two categories: those that compare everything in the game to Valheim (tend to be negative reviews) - and those that stress that this game IS NOT VALHEIM - nor is it intended to be a Valheim clone. Just as It would be silly to compare the original NES Ninja Gaiden to AC: Shadows (both are set in "ninja worlds" and both are nominally action games), you should not go in…

This is generally speaking a good game. I can't give it a neutral review and due to critical nature of its flaws that lands on negative particularly since these issues date back many months before now according to posts online. Base management with npc crafting items on a recurring basis requires limits that are controlled in a smart way or excessive time consumption. This game chose the excessive time consumption route in how it is implemented. Example using tool crafting so bots can perform…

I do like this game. But after a few restart it get tiresome to start from scratch. A few mods exists that makes life easier. Apperently Devs do not like it. Me, I'm getting tired on the grind marathon, that the mods eased up and let me enjoy the game. So Devs says play like we say the boring way or buzz off. Me I'am more if you do not wanna make the game enjoyable to play over and over, then you buzz off.

I am torn with this game. I would really like to give Aska a positive recommendation, but there are some key issues that you don't find out about until you've sunk a ton of hours into the game. 1. Villager AI becomes increasingly problematic the more villagers you summon. After switching to Iron, and wanting to recycle iron parts, you come to realize no matter how many iron part collectors you place around your village that the villagers never deposit them inside. Even with a warehouse…

I was really excited to see this game in action. I thought this was Valheim but with better graphics and more full of things to do. Well, that is mostly true but not in the way I thought. Everything you do to survive doesn't balance with the fun I was expecting. There is SO MUCH micro management that it becomes more like work than fun. You work your way up to getting your longboat so you can explore other islands but they are pretty much more of the same as on your island. If you love to…

If you've got spare time to waste, this game got you covered. The game is strictly about growing your village, stick by stick, nail by nail, not about exploration or adventure (this is not Valheim, ok). Still that can be quite good... until it's not. There are many flaws with this game and the more I played the more of them I discovered. I have a love/hate relationship with this game. On one hand, it is a good colony sim with a lot of mechanics and a system that can be fascinating. Often I get so absorbed with handling every aspect of the village that I spend hours in it, and it's somewhat fun once you get your settlement working. Designing your village, choosing what job to assign each villager, training them and setting up defenses. I spent 300+ hours with that. But on the downside, it has some issues that scream bad…

And I would like to spend time describing this below because the game is awesome and is worth playing. This is a game that has so much potential, it just needs to be implemented a bit better. While it is still in early access, I feel like the devs are focused on creating new issues rather than fixing old ones. I absolutely look forward to future updates with the hope that these things get fixed/addressed, but as it stands currently. I can not recommend Aska. The game had so much potential, but the devs have no idea how to design fun gameplay loops. It's been like that for years too now. New features are added, instead of improving or fixing older ones. The game thus has a lot of features, all of which - and i mean every single feature - are tedious and annoying, or even require tons of manual involvement and micro management to work throughout most of the game. In my 30 hours of play, i just couldnt continue due to 2 reasons. 1. colony management feels very restrictive. It feels that i still have to do most of the work even though i have 20 villagers. 2. The combat feels clunky. Aska blends survival, village management, and Norse-themed sandbox gameplay in a way that feels both ambitious and surprisingly personal. Great game. People compare it to valheim but I hated valheim and I enjoy this game. Good city building aspect, good fighting aspect, good exploration aspect. Weird and annoying to learn - I restarted a bunch of times before feeling comfortable with it. I enjoy it and it has a lot going for it.

This game’s not for everyone. If you want fast action, instant gratification, flashy explosions... this ain’t it. But if you’re the kind of person who likes the grind… who enjoys building systems, solving problems, managing chaos then this thing hits different. It’s automation. It’s micromanagement. It’s colony building. It’s W-O-R-K. But it’s the kind of work that makes you feel smart. Like you’re actually doing something. You're playing your second life... and what life has? A real freakin…

Game has incredible potential, but holy hell is it rough around the edges. The setup is fantastic, but be ready for some serious growing pains. As a new player, I had zero clue that fiber would become my life – you need HUNDREDS of the stuff. Forget casual gathering; you need fiber farms up and running immediately or you're screwed. Then there's the flag system for worker resource management. It's just... unnecessary micromanagement pain. You'll spend ages breaking blue stones, leaving a trail…

It Does Get Better This is the first thing I'd say when considering to buy. My first 8 hours as a new player was miserable, frusterating, and tedious. There's a learning curve with how things work and what to build first, but once you figure it out it does turn into a rather solid survival-city management game. I'm currently on my second play through and enjoying it just as much as the first (after I figured out what to do.) As a side bar, if you want to know the biggest tip I could give for a…

If you like survival and crafting games you might like this one. It simplifies some things and you can't custom make buildings they are pre-designed, but they are still nice and you can drop them pretty much anywhere. Terrain can be a bit of a factor. Tree's can be taken down and some stones moved but there are some design elements in the game that you can't remove and can't really build around well. There isn't a lot of grind to the game and it can be enjoyed with friends to help things…

Quick review hitting on the main pros/cons ---Pros -Mixes normal survival crafting with settlement survival gameplay in a satisfying way -Can delegate tedious tasks to NPCs who will do it for you -Building is satisfying. Multiple stages and can pin requirements for resources those buildings need -AoE Ping for marking resources -NPCs require housing, to be happy, food and water, warm clothing and tools. Sets up a fun production chain -Telling a crafter to make a tool, doesnt make a single tool.…

Overall Aska has a solid foundation. The concept and atmosphere are incredible and is fun. My personal biggest issues right now is the villager Ai, storage management, warmth mechanics, lack of special raids, clunky ui, lack of resource respawn, pathing, inventory, inability to stack certain items. I love that they added weather and weather effects! I really want to play this game more but for some reason this game absolutely WORKS my pc into overtime. Only game that does this.

15 out of 10 I am shocked at how good this game is. 200 hours in I still hadn't hit the late game. Now 300 hours in i am beginning to engage in the end game, but still haven't completed the final boss..... Literally best game i have played in the last 3-4 years.

Building, Farming, Hunting, Fishing, Cooking, Woodcutting, Mining, and so, so much more. Valheim with better building, but less customization. A grind heavy but beautiful village building game with excellent AI Management. Task your villagers with every remedial task you may have, but you're definitely going to grind to spawn them and ensure their needs are met.Every villager requires food, water and sleep. The systems to manage sleep is very easy and efficient, but you now have to have a…

Aska is a survival game mixed as a colony simulator. It's a brilliant idea, and has a ton of potential! This game had me hooked for a while, but it does have a learning curve. If you like survival games this is a MUST own game, but know you will fail your first 1-2 attempts if going in blind. I recommend focusing on how to build/upgrade/set tasks, because once you have that down the game becomes much more manageable. Pros: - Very fun solo play with villagers who help you gather, craft, etc. -…

About 400 hours solo and the best 25 bucks I’ve ever spent on a game. Every update just gets better and better.
