The inventory system is widely criticized as frustrating and poorly designed, making item management a chore. [1][2][3][4]

Honestly a great game, I don't think the negative reviews are warranted. I think the bugs are mostly a multiplayer issue, as I'm playing solo and have yet to run into a bug. HOWEVER- WTF IS THE INVENTORY SYSTEM??? Like, reading the reviews before buying I thought, "Oh they have issues with storage? Skill issue, go home more." AND THAN I BOUGHT THE GAME- First dungeon, 25 inventory slots, and I'm given 15, …

Nice little game that mixes well elements of Valheim with some of Terraria and bakes them into an isometric Zelda-style pixel looking open world. There is little to no story, like in Valheim, you're just there, trapped into a magical fantasy world and you'll have to escape it while collecting loot, crafting and building equipment and houses for you and the NPCs you'll encounter around. As usual the more you'll …

Sum-Up In-depth analysis further down. 🟩 Pros 🟥 Cons • Quality pixel art and world design: each element looks good and is well-animated. • Good variety of weapons and gear to craft a build best-suited to your favorite playstyle. • Enormous amount of building blocks and cosmetic items to create your dream town. • Horrendous quality of life makes inventory sorting, item storage and crafting a huge chore. • Boring …

This game could have been great, but it got rushed to 1.0 (now so called "2.0") without ironing out all the missing bugs and features. As of 2025, it is still buggy and lacking content with very few updates.

I found the game itself to be a lot of fun. You can pace yourself and casually gather resources and farm, build and design a home base, form a community with several NPC's that you find through-out the world and build them homes in your town/village. Graphics are nice and the difficulty curve seemed balanced as you progress. Starting out a new game was great. Things were going and working well. The further along we …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I supported this game and played through EA. Made many suggestions to the devs. Then they made the “full” release but failed to add the much requested features players, including myself, have wanted, such as a better inventory system. As a new player you find it very annoying how they make dungeons require all these bits and bobs but you can’t collect them all in one go because the inventory is tiny. I see the game has lower reviews now and I know why, they are refusing to add the QOL…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Firstly. it has a cancerous EULA. "time-limited license blablabla". I paid for this, if you remove this from my library, i'll sure go after Headup and make them pay for compensation. Also, it has lot of analytics, block them using the host file if on Windows. On Linux it is not needed. Now, for the game itself. I must say that i have been playing on the Steam Deck. The game has lot of bugs, mostly inventory and UI which makes you have to leave the game and get in-game again. Inventory / UI…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Running of the Gnomes Begins!. The in-game micro holiday is inspired by a [charity event](https://gnomerun2023.carrd.co/) hosted every October on Scarlet Crusade-US. People make level 1 gnomes to run from New Tinkertown to Booty Bay, and the funds raised go to support the development of a breast cancer vaccine. If you've never joined the event, I recommend it! It's always great fun to watch a herd of gnomes dodge murlocs and tigers on their way down to Booty Bay.
neutral · AI labelView post →This shouldn't have left early access yet. Hit boxes on environment are too large, so you'll hit those before the enemy. Attacks will randomly not land. Needs a proofreader. Item placement orientation is limited, ie: Can't place torches on side of wall, can't rotate crafting benches to conserve space. No point in killing enemies after you've gathered their materials, may as well just run by them since there's no experience system in this RPG.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tinkertown: A town of wasted time and potential Despite all of my efforts to complete everything the game has to offer and try to find any salvation for this little “open-world craft with RPG elements” indie title, there are just too many negative aspects in the game to be recommended for any player out there, let alone the enjoyers of this type of genre. Summary 💚Wins 😐Mids 💔Sins - Very well-made and simplistic pixel art style. - Large amounts of building and decoration blocks to…

Everything you can think off! It's kind of a cute Minecraft and Terraria sandbox game about rebuilding a kingdom. #Tinkertown #NintendoSwitch Handheld Screenshots
positive · AI labelView post →I'll try to keep it short and only mention the issues with this game that I can remember after not playing it for a week or two: - first time playing the game ended in it freaking out and giving me the very first quest a dozen times, finishing the quest would not close the one dozen duplicates of the quest. i had to restart the game.... this was literally the first 2 minutes of the game - the NPCs in general are useless, they give you nothing interesting, don't do anything, all they do is…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-- It's just not worth playing. -- Tinkertown just does nothing better, let alone as good as, any other title in this genre. It is also missing many basic QoL features that make these games fun. - Core Keeper, Terraria, Stardew Valley, Necesse and Kerpleth all do everything this game does but SO much better. - Building: Less options/tiles than all other games. Loot: Gear scaling feels bad and there are total sets you skip over as they are sidegrades at best. Map traversal: Minecarts you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A friend gifted me this game because I love Core Keeper. Saw the mic and user data issues, and decided to wait until those issues were fixed. They supposedly were, but when I launched the game, I was never asked about sharing my data, and there was no setting to turn off my mic. My partner found a config file in the appdata folder which seemed to contain the ability to opt out, but it rewrote itself to allowing data collection when we booted the game back up. TL;DR: Lack of transparency, lack…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →++ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED++ The game itself has some serious fishy issue, including all the microphone thingie and problems that others review have mentioned before. If one can put all above aside, then the game does indeed have a good ish pixel art, basic base building and decorating, simple but functioning farming/cooking system, no survival aspect existed yet though (food and drinks requirement etc...), simple click to attack combat...but all in all. Here's how i feel about the game.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Claims to be steam deck compatible but there's no way to access the crafting menu. Crafting is 50% off the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tinkertown plays very slow right from the start. Too slow imo. You move very slowly, you need to farm quite a bit of wood and stone to even get going for the first quest. I don't think doing the most boring part of the game for 30 minutes right at the start is very much engaging. I was expecting a tutorial on how to do things, but got nothing of the sorts. The game also doesn't tell you how to do anything, not how to craft, what to craft, what for to craft. It acts on a "figure it out" basis.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My buddy and I beat it after an 18 hour slog of dealing with more and more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from this game. The inventory system is ass. The combat is ass. The progression system is ass. The Japanese ice area was cool though, 10/10. ♥♥♥♥ this game. I'm glad I only spent a dollar.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is awful. Imagine you spends 3 hours tallking your friends into buying the game. They buy it. You create a character. You create a world. You invite your friends. You think to yourself"Wow, this is going to be awesome! I cant believe I talk my friends to join me in this adventure.". The first thing you are greeted with is a broken NPC which doesn't allow you to progress your quest line so you are forever progression locked. Didn't get soul trinket. Couldn't talk to NPC after getting first…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →only get it on sale... it's kinda fun but if not for the 90% off i'd feel ripped off... ytou NEED other people to play or you can't even fully loot a dungeon... inventory management is a damned nightmare
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art is good, but the game itself is somewhat of a chore. Winning or losing in combat is 100% dependent on kiting basic enemies from range and having a boatload of potions in your hotbar. Some mid-game(?) enemies literally teleport on top of you repeatedly for unavoidable damage, you simply have to tank it and outheal them. I pretty much uninstalled the game after the desert dungeon cause i was tired of it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just as others have explained in their reviews they collected data WITHOUT user consent. When they got busted and called out on it, tried to "save face" by adding in a EULA you HAVE to accept to even play the game. Either you allow them to collect your data or their game is unplayable. Scummy business practice from a so called "game developer". Steer clear of anything produced by this company.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →@nezzeth.bsky.social also got #Tinkertown for the Switch and we have been playing together online. Honestly this game is so addictive! #NintendoSwitch
positive · AI labelView post →boss fights are glitchy, glitching and teleporting you into the bosses attacks and items lost when in boss arenas despawn this is awful when clearing a dungeon and you come face to face with a boss and lose your loot you earned along the way
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would never recommend this game even if it was free in its current state me and my wife were doing a streaming series on it and it was going well i was going str and she was going mag we beat the forest dungeon and had the villagers up to everything we even did the among us easter egg thing but then we went to do the second dungeon which was the desert one and its literally 3 times the length of the first one which wouldnt be bad we made it through the trek of a dungeon we had tons of heals…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bottom line its spyware. And with the new patch if you don't agree to them collecting, you cannot play. Such a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY They were collecting your data without your knowledge. They claimed this was bugs. They now have changed the EULA so that you *HAVE* to accept them collecting data or you can't play. There is no opt out to continue playing without surrendering your data to them. Meaning, if you've already put too many hours in and you don't want them taking your data, you can't play. I'm too many hours and too long ago to get it refunded but you can avoid it. Scummy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Officially Spyware Got caught collecting user data without permission. Than tried to do a quick patch for a user agreement and a popup to warn you as if that'll help. Also, can't play the game anymore unless you opt into the data collection. Do not support this type of game developing company.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Refunded because the devs think its OK to steal my data and not give me the option of turning it off, even though they put in an option that didn't work, and then patched it back out again in the next update.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too many game breaking bugs. Stuck in water: new world creation required. Black squares appear over the map blocking off antyhing behind them Goblins warp around the screen Death casued getting stuck at the loading screen All these bugs found under 2hours of play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →buggy buggy buggy get stuck in walls items randomly can duplicate to a stack of 25000 gamepad controls are borked map doesn't load nice art but needs lots of work
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have actively avoided 3rd party eula's. When I bought this one there was not a listing about it. Now that I have updated it, I can not play it with out accepting it. Steam refuses to refund it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poorly designed structure to the game, felt boring after the first dungeon and for 17 dollars?! maybe try it if its on sale but the lack of content and poor design made it feel like a chore to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just play necesse or core keeper
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SCUM!!! Don't buy it, 0 mechanics are complete on release, and in addition to that - on release they've added spywhere whicollects your personal info... For the people who think spywhere is not something terrible here is the list of other issues, which they call "released" game: * Quests are useless and give you recipes which you already have * Most of the characters have "we will add more quests later" * 60% of NPC does nothing, no mechanics, no unique crafting recypes * Only 3 bioms * There…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some items in game aren't craftable either due to recipes not existing/appearing, or being unable to gather the required items. Devs also have a history of not responding to bug reports, so no clue whether they're even aware of it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Breaks if you have a game up for more then an hour or two.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried to play the game multiple time after i put more then 2h with a friend and got angry and couldn't go any further. Each time i tried to retry the game there was always something that broke even if it was little, the texture glitching when you remove ground or put flooring/grass, i've also got some flooring/walls that been placed turned invisible needed relog to fix, the fact you can't click the hotbar and have to press the button which is ok but the fact that you can place when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game got a lot of negative reviews, but it's actually pretty fun. I'd say it's like a top-down version of game like minecraft or terraria. It can possibly be a great game if others give it a chance!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Aside from the reviews of the strange data collection and always on Microphone I gave this game a shot. Wow is this a pile, save yourself the money and go get Forger, Stardew valley, Graveyard keeper, Don't Starve, Moonlighter, Cult of the Lamb or any other game even remotely like this. The UI is clunky, you have to click on a specific crafting station to craft but there is no search, and items are not organized in a meaningful way. You are not able to see what stations craft what, not a huge…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I first played the game really enjoyed it. After the Steamdeck stopped allowing my character to move around or access any of my menus, I put it down. Started playing it again after an update in 2026, and now I cannot do anything in the game at all. I will not recommend this game on Steamdeck until resolved.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just go play core keeper 😔
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tinkertown, in the 12 hours I've logged, has been an enjoyable experience. It does have it's flaws, and it definitely needs improvement in the QOL aspects, but they're actively working on it and that's more than can be said about most indie developers pumping out hot garbage. I think some things that it could really use more of is variety. Rather than completing a boss and receiving the loot from the chests at the end it may be more entertaining for the consumer to have unique weapons drop…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is not a finished game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Game is Starting" bug Can't join a friend's server. This game is still a mess. Don't bother buying it if you are looking to play with friends.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Outstanding world, great combat mechanic and amazing boss fight. The downside is some noticeable bug, but the responsive dev team and good community can cover it. what more can i say, truly 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am absolutely obsessed with this game. I do wish there was the tiniest bit more direction but overall, having to explore more on your own is a gem in and of itself. 10/10 recommend to both casual and hard-core gamers looking for a fun combination of Minecraft, Stardew Valley, and Hero Siege. I would also describe it as a casual 8-bit Valheim.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels like it could have potential, if it wasn't already 1.0.4. I was even willing to overlook some spelling errors (in the first ten min. of the game, really?) But this game just has no help for the players. I want to get the grimoire for the elder, and I want to get the sapphire for the miner, yet the game doesn't tell me how. I look for ages around the map, and there's nothing to tell me what to do. Then I have to go to google and ask what I need, which I hate to do because it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same as others have explained. They collected data WITHOUT user consent. Then got busted and tried to "save grace" by adding in a EULA you HAVE to accept to even play the game. Tons of others games have an EULA you have to accept, but a SEPARATE data collection agreement that lets you either Accept or Deny, it's your choice. This game does not give you a choice how your data is collected, shared, etc. and that alone I refunded and will not support this company.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Need some QOL and some building bug fixes
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This would be a neutral review if that were an option, but seeing it's not i'm putting it as negative. It's buggy, especially in multiplayer. The combat is meh. The progression is meh. It only lasted 19 hours. It's ok when on special, just dont expect much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game for my very first time during this week, and to be honest I don't know why it has so many bad reviews. The game is rich of content and quite enjoyable, of course it has some up and downs about stability, but it's something that goes off immediately, and doesn't ruin the game on the long run. With this said, I played the game by myself and with friends and it is extremely funny and enjoyable to play, never get tired of playing, unless your eyes are getting tired, because you…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game and idea of it all is interesting, but the game still feels very early access. laden with bugs, npcs/enemies/characters getting stuck on nothing, and generally feeling incomplete as a game. once all of these are fixed, and the game can run smoothly i would change my reveiw. but until then, its still incomplete.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a perfect example for the dev is listening requests from users
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game plays very much like an Early Access game. Bugs off the top of my head (POSSIBLY only in multiplayer as I only played with my gf): Entire screen becomes black and you can walk anywhere while still traversing the map, causing my gf to walk into an end dungeon. Quests are not easy to read. NPCs should have services to but that never got implemented? Sometimes I talk to an NPC to look at quests then other NPC quest dialogues show up The programming is shoddy and it causes lag spikes.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is such a chill game. Within the first hour I was heavy into base building. Planning my town, building a house for the elder, farming my first berry bushes. I wanted to keep it tight. Take things slow. And then I started exploring.... I love the dungeon design. I couldn't even finish my first trip into the forest dungeon because my pockets were overflowing with treasures. There are little secrets to discover ^.^ I have to convince my friends to play with me!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game left early access way too early. Too many basic features are missing like a fully functional map with map markers, combat is really clunky, the typos are pretty bad too. I feel as though the developers rushed this one out the door to 1.0 without refining the game and it's mechanics. I do not recommend buying this game until it's truly finished!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tinkertown is a game built on the joy of shaping a world rather than simply surviving within one. Developed and published by Headup, it embraces the familiar foundations of crafting-focused sandbox adventures but filters them through a deliberately relaxed, playful atmosphere. Instead of pushing players toward crisis or urgency, it invites them to breathe, gather materials at their own pace, and slowly transform a patch of wilderness into something belonging uniquely to them. From the moment…
