This game checks a lot of boxes for me. The art style is charming, the characters are funny and memorable, it is a management style game, and there is a lot of customization. On paper, it feels like something I should love. But in practice, the game just feels empty. I like the idea behind it, yet it often feels like it was not fully thought through. Bear and Breakfast is a sweet little hotel management game with elements of exploration, humourous dialouge and... cute hats :3 The visuals and art style is very cute and I love the darker "cozy" vibe it brings to the table. Hank is a lovely main character to play as, and the entire concept of the game is wholesome to say the least. The management, building and decorating was really fun for me. I like that you …

A charming experience throughout, with a great cosy vibe in it's presentation. Especially the main character bear is just an endearing bumbling delight without ever getting annoying. Bear and Breakfast received "mixed or average" reviews according to review aggregator Metacritic. Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received strong approval, being recommended by 59% of critics. Bear and Breakfast was praised for its art style, music, humour and cozy atmosphere, but also received criticism aimed at some of its gameplay mechanics, particularly its pacing, the lack of player freedom and the integration of narrative-driven elements in the management sim formula. Here's just what I can think of immediately after completing the game: -Pacing is super slow, there's lots of times you just have to wait around for time to pass -Storylines come out of nowhere and are dropped unsatisfyingly -you can't sell extra materials so you have to throw them out to make room in your very limited inventory -Room decoration is just a matter of fitting in as many decorations/pieces of furniture as you can instead of getting to decorate for fun -I had to Google what to do…

This game is OK, but I don't think it's really worth the time needed to fully complete it. Although it's clear a lot of effort went in to creating it, I believe it's unfinshed. It's just lacking the heart that you usually get in cozy games. The art and NCPs are cute, but after a while, in order to maximize/optimize your hotels, it becomes mostly an idle sim, which is extremely disappointing. You need a lot of coins to complete some tasks, which can be earned only by letting the game run on its…

I really wanted to like this game more. I did enjoy aspects of it, but I can only recommend it with a bunch of caveats. Bear&Breakfast is foremost a resource management hotel sim, and it does okay at that. It has a satisfying, if mind-numbing, gameplay loop of foraging, crafting, and decorating. It starts off rather cozy but only for the introductory first two maps before it starts leaning harder into resource management for the rest. It's also pretty buggy, though most decorating…

The game is cute…but. -The dialogue takes up too much time and it’s a click-through nightmare. I know it builds understanding of the characters and story but there’s so much of it and it’s mostly fluff. -There are not enough things to do in between tasks given by the game. There have been times when I’m waiting for a task to complete, or I’m in between tasks, and I can’t do anything but walk around and maybe forage/collect items. Talking to NPCs doesn’t reveal any new information. -The…

I was excited to play this game for a couple of months and decided that I wanted to try it out when it went on sale. Admittedly a cute game, but a boring one at that. The style is adorable and the characters are even more so, but it becomes draining having to do just about anything. The dialogue feels like it was written for children. The bear-to-guest interactions are limited, not really showing anything to really do with them. It took me almost an hour and a half to just get a fast travel…

This was cute and mildly fun, but my biggest issue is the unresolved bugs. There are multiple bugs with the inventory management that make it easy to accidentally duplicate stacks and a bug that prevents the very first achievement from being triggerable for some people, me being one of those people. Charming presentation with gameplay that needs far more polish. It's a hard recommend at this point as the game has fundamental problems. Pros: - Really cute design and direction with art style, dialogue, and overall presentation. It's nice to take your mind off of things for a while. - Great variety in biomes and systems that bring in variety. - The underlying ideas are right and fun for a while even if the execution is not there. I was originally excited to play this game, but found myself trudging through the end just to get it over with. The bugs made it too annoying to play with enjoyment. The worse part was, when I looked up my issues, I saw other people had those same issues YEARS ago. "Cozy and warm, until it kind of isn't" Bear & Breakfast puts you in the fuzzy boots(?) of Hank the Bear. And it's your job to run a Bed & Breakfast, cleaning up and renovating old motels and cabins to host guests at, serving their needs and keeping them happy to make some money and prove to your fuzzy bear mother that you're a big bear now and can take care of yourself! Early on the game seems like a fine little cozy game with little stress, but it also runs into a number of limitations very…

Another review said it best but, I played for 1 hr and was already picking up on some big issues with the game. My main gripes were the clunky building controls, the extremely long and unskippable dialogue, and the lack of quest info, etc. The design is cute and the game has some good bones but it needs major work in my opinion.

The artwork is beautiful and a lot of the dialogue is really funny. But the core gameplay loop is not what I was expecting at all, and I just don't find it fun. I thought the game was going to be more about slowly upgrading one building, expanding it and growing it into a great B&B, while doing active tasks to look after the building and my guests. A charming building game featuring all kinds of hotels. The main tasks involve gathering resources, building, decorating and cooking, which becomes easier as the game progresses thanks to additional staff. Unfortunately, the game isn’t designed to accommodate multiple styles. As a result, there’s little point in customising the décor in the wooden cabin and the resort hotel to suit different themes. Nevertheless, the game is well worth a try. (4/5)

Fun idea and premise, however it leaves a lot to be desired. Inventory management is time consuming, and it ruins the experience. I spent more time running around making space to complete quest crafting, vs actually enjoying the relaxed nature of the game. I really liked the beginning and middle of the game, but the ending really left a lot to be desired. It feels as though the bear works so hard to make his home lovely again, meets all these characters, and fulfils all these side quests and then the story ends. There's literally no indication that the main story has ended either. No rolling credits. No, "You did it, Bear!". The "ending" falls really flat and is really disappointing especially after 30 hours of game play.

Enjoyable little AirBNB management sim. The story starts out very goofy and kind of background, but I did enjoy the ending, although the pacing is... wonky. Controls need some work, and at a minimum some more explanation. Art is fun, game is fairly balanced. Spent about 17 hours beating the game and most side quests, and four (mostly idle) hours polishing off the last few.

Bear and Breakfast is a very sweet game about a bear with a heart that’s too big for his own good, exploitation, and, to my surprise, gods. It also incorporates the theme of environmental pollution effectively by having you constantly collect trash and use it as currency.
