What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 108 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (135 of 171 positive).
Players praise the fun, over-the-top brawler gameplay and its Kenka Bancho energy. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the PC port for technical issues like frame rate drops and crashes. [4][5][6] Some players find the fan service and ecchi elements off-putting. [7][8]

The game itself is OK, the port isn't - too many bugs, bad performance, I have to play windowed with V-sync and Steam overlay off else the game won't pass the loading screen. The worse part, dev doesn't seem to care since there's been no update since Oct. 2020. Sorry, can't recommend unless they fix this hot mess or do 90% sale.

I have several hours in Uppers, originally released for the Vita in 2016-ish overseas, mostly played on daily commutes to work. It has some serious Kenka Bancho energy and for the most part is absolutely mindless, which is why I was able to enjoy it without understanding little more than a few words. The biggest issues I had, resolved here, were the specific requests from the crowd and getting them addressed without …

UPPERS is a fun brawler with enjoyable combat. The art style is great and the soundtrack is good enough. It’s short and a little repetitive, but the fighting makes up for it. The PC port supports DS4/Switch/XBOX and keyboard prompts. The default keyboard binds are not great (Home button as the action button, really?), but they can be rebound. There were issues with effects on AMD and Intel GPUs in some levels, I'm …

After having finished the game, I can say I had an absolute blast. Memories of Kenka Banchou flow back in to me... The slower combat turned me off a bit at first, but I began to love the way each hit felt impactful, and it was satisfying seeing the goons get launched like fireworks at Voltage 3. Later on I awakened to a partial dash-cancel combo which added a whole new feel to the combat. Main complaint is directed …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, I actually liked the game itself, the problem here is the port of it. According to Marvelous, this game is "fully remastered in 1080p, 60FPS". Well, I can't say that is true at all. If you were expecting better graphics than the PSVita with upgraded assets, then forget about it, this game rather than being a remaster is just a simple port and it doesn't look any better... and sadly, as a port is not a very good one. Main issue is frame-rate, I run this on a i7-8700K, 16GB of RAM…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The novelty wears off pretty quickly. I try not to leave games unfinished unless they bore or really annoy me. Uppers came close to making me drop it. I understand it's a PS Vita game, but Marvellous were putting out Senran games with fluid combat at this time. Uppers feels clunky and heavy - which I suppose makes sense since we're playing big, burly guys - but it makes some of the later levels with a lot of creeps and double bosses rather annoying to play through. They're not hard, just…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's 'post a random game of your collection' Saturday! (I know Saturday is over, but it’s all good 😊) UPPERS is a super fun game! Easily the best game by the, “Tits are life, ass is hometown,” guy since his Ikki Tousen projects.
positive · AI labelView post →If you liked Senran kagura fanservice you will like UPPERS. The combat is very basic and fun but if you let the enemies surround you, you will die. Charaters are very entertaining and the Female characters ( Queens ) are very funny and varied and as expected by the creator of Senran kagura their outfits you can buy for them are very revealing. Story is very basic but you shouldn't be playing this for the story. For a port of a Vita games this gmaes looks pretty good. Ive had maybe 3 crashes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Today's random game post is for Uppers, a 2016 Vita beat 'em up that was brought to PC in 2020. It's not super deep or expansive but it's a decently fun time with a lot of charm, plus Daidoji from Senran Kagura is in it!
neutral · AI labelView post →i didn't expect the whole "taking panty-shots of schoolgirls" thing, that's gross.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was original published on PSVita in 2016, transferred to Windows in 2020. I play few fighting games, not familiar with the command list but I find UPPERS relatively easy . Simple, no key bashing needed to pass the story mode. The only thing is the game does not support keyboard so I play with a xbox gamepad, yet no key binding allowed and the X,Y,A,B buttons are called Del, Home, End, Ins, which I had trouble locating, and missing fast reactions. Player take control of 2 high…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I suppose it is a testament to how cool #CommodoreFormat was BITD that it even bothered to include this in its "Movie Tie-In" issue 4. GH was fair with his appraisal, though having zero "Uppers" is a bit weird! The game is fine to play in 2026 from CSDb, you would not have been happy paying £20.
neutral · AI labelView post →No, it actually was straight up because of how Sony had grown over ecchi games. Takaki left mid-development of Sevens when the pushback on Uppers, which was his main passion project got really bad and the game bombed despite it being by all accounts, fun schlock.
neutral · AI labelView post →Fun 3D beat 'em up, scratches that street brawler itch. The "audience request" mechanic is a cool idea that should be explored more often in action games. Daidoji is the coolest.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite finishing this game and enjoying the gameplay a lot, the amount of technical issues that this game has makes it very hard to recommend. From constant frame rate drops to frequent crashes, I have rarely encountered a game with so many issues. If you can see past these issues, the game is definitely one I can recommend. If you can't get past them, wait until a future patch which make this game more stable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Glad Steam was nice enough to refund me this game. This game runs like garbage when there are more then 3 enemies on screen and it's a freaking vita game -.-
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent beat em up if you're into Jojo and that style and all the that. For those that are looking for Senran Kagura type gameplay, look else where, This game is a lot slower than SK, the girls are nowhere near as hot. Dont go into this game thinking its SK because you're going to have a bad time. Port Runs find the 2070s, game has the standard pc settings from its launcher and you can change button overlays, from Kb, PS, Xbox and switch/basic gamepad https://youtu.be/BVRRQBx-SoQ
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Post a random game in your collection, here on Saturday This #RandomGameSaturday I went for something close at hand from the Playstation Vita (VITA MEANS LIFE!) and that's UPPERS, the hot blooded dudes rock brawler from the Senran Kagura team
positive · AI labelView post →🩲 A solid and fun brawler, but the budget was clearly modest. A sort of «Double Dragon» in the early years (Gaiden, lol), with lively characters and a silly shonen plot. All battles aren't button mashing and have a good rhythm. The punches feel great, and there are enough mechanics for variety, not monotony. The fighters are varied and participate in the story as playable. The AI can be a bit dumb, and some specific moves are clunky (collisions are occasionally weird), but the game never stops…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game. This game is made for bancho lovers and those who just want a fun but intense action game. Ya don't get many combo routes, but the game challenges ya well the deeper ya get into it,especially when ya healthy recovery and rank depends on ya doin' challenges properly which means masterin' every system. The dodging especially is all bout timin',so I hope ya pick this up and enjoy it. (PS get the deluxe for the OST isn't posted much online.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn’t seem to run on stem deck , would like to hear a follow up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very "meh" game. Worked alright on the Vita but it doesn't hold up that well on a big screen. Story and setting are very hit or miss. You'd expect more from the makers of Senran Kagura, but this game falls short in a lot of ways. Might be worth it on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs some patching, fps is shoddy, physics have issues, its a button masher with not as much unique things amongst the roster as you would like. All in all its still pretty good but not worth full price. More Daidoji please. Also the Senran "outfits" are T-shirts, disappointment.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's some stuff that totally shows it's made by Marvelous in this game, i REALLY hate their Senran series, they used to make great beat 'em ups on the Ikkitousen franchise, i wished they'd stick to that instead and evolve from here... kinda like the Yakuza series did but yeah, senran is easier to develop and cheap i guess, terribly cheap... At least now we have something close, finally, with Uppers but it doesn't shine like a masterpiece. There's fun moment in it, some little clothes custom…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →REFUNDED: This is a PC game without mouse support. So... it's actually a console game. Don't bother unless you are happy to play with controller only.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game dosnt run you gotta a dll from a third party the community dosnt know a direct way to solve the problem game has been out for over 5 years with no updates crazy have a active discord which still is 0 help save your self the head ache mostly positive is a lie mostly a mix
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a solid B-project beat'em'up. If you are an average ecchi-seinen genre anime enjoyer, this game will be good for you. Also good for Senran Kagura fans who want to change the MC from girls to boys.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Optimally played in a nyquil fueled haze, best not played
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I waited 6-7 years to play this game. It was not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →senran kagura but bad and with men
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uppers has been a game that I have been waiting to come to Steam forever, and the wait was totally worth it. The fast, and frenetic gameplay is over the top, the visuals suit the style of the game perfectly, and it has a fun-loving appeal that makes you want to keep playing to see what is next. Uppers is certainly worth the price of admission.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Developer released a patch that ruined performance. I am asking for a refund that I probably won't get. This is the second game this month that something like this has happened.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Also speaking of tickets-this offer for tomorrow is still good. Lowers/Club Seats for $100. Uppers for $37. The uppers are almost out. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Ok, feels budget title but you know what to expect if you notice that are the same devs of Serran Kagura
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →End of the year calls for another Tier list of every game i finished. 166 titles! Uppers being all the way up in top tier looks hilarious, but i genuinely loved that experience. Terrifying laying it all out like that. Go and play some goddamn indies folks! They'll always be at least interesting.
positive · AI labelView post →I bough Uppers last night. This was one of those Vita games I heard about but sadly it never got localized for the system. Luckily it did come out on Steam a few years ago. I like it so far. It's a nice beat em up style game where I can just turn off my brain and pummel dudes.
positive · AI labelView post →While i enjoyed the game a lot, it was way too repetitive. I wish the game had some depth. maybe not letting me have all the moves right away and instead should've let me earn them little by little. as i had all the moves since the beginning i didn't feel any progress. also the game keeps making me repeat levels because adoration level isn't high enough. that's a stupid mechanic. 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking for a good game with a deep story and interesting combat, go elsewhere. Otherwise, welcome to UPPERS. Uppers is effectively just a fast food game. It's easy, it's a satisfying spectacle fighter, and it is full of decently good (albeit generic) tracks. The story is about two bros becoming the most powerful dudes on an island to get a girl. Very generic anime plot development. The sexual content isn't really that intense, but it is there. Again, this game is not deep at all…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like over the top brawlers? Do you like Anime? Do you like panty shots? Cogratulations you want this game Uppers is a game with potential, but lacks ambition. You need to like those 3 elements because the gameplay lacks depth. And that's a shame, because what it does, it does it right. Its also a game clearly meant to be played in short sessions, and you can see it was made originally for a portable console (vita) because it's very repetitive. In essence, it's a pretty simple brawler,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fairly standard beat'em up and can be very button mashy if you want to just smooth brain through, but it is fun in its on way. Outside of 100% every level and collecting all the slot variations it doesn't have much in the way of difficulty on my Normal play through. Overall it looks simple, (having been a PS Vita game) play simply, and has a simple plot of tough dudes fighting each other to impress girls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uppers marketed itself as the non-skeevy alternative to Senran and it's the skeeviest game I've ever played and I hate it.
negative · AI labelView post →Goated 3d beat em up very fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an underrated game. It reminds me of No More Heroes mixed with Yakuza. The two main characters kinda remind me of the two Heavies trying to find some anime boobies in Pootis Engage, and when i saw that high school kid beat up his bullies and going the dark path, before he redeemed himself, his corruption arc kinda reminded me of Ichi the Killer. THIS GAME NEEDS MORE ATTENTION!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the funniest things to me is in the game Uppers, a game about fighting to impress and flirt with women, they had Daidouji from Senran Kagura as a guest character and they didn’t bother changing mechanics so she flirts with women too.
neutral · AI labelView post →a great em they don't make they like this anymore
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, fights are repetitive, to say the least, but they are pretty quick, and girls' tasks bring some diversity into them. Simple and very japanese, which is a pro in my book. It's fun so far, although the whole island and MC give me strong netorare vibes. Might've been reading too much of the stuff I shouldn't read, but whatever. UPD: Beat the game, it gets more tedious to the end, although it's not that bad. I recommend trying it, but feel free to drop it at any point.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good beat 'em up. I like the selection of characters you can unlock. Really fun how you see how strong the villains are before you fight them. (you get to play as them). Then when you beat them, you can unlock them as playable. I do think the fan requests is a double edged sword. Its neat, because it will have you using moves and techniques you might not think to. However, I wish the requests could stack or the NPC had further line of sight. If you do a move before they request, it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bought fate extella and extella link on that psn sale and lmao you can tell extella was originally/simultaneously a vita game with all the vn sequences and how many places you can just hit <Back> and get everything autosaved lmao quite a lot like Uppers, some Sinrun Caligula games and such
neutral · AI labelView post →Game 9 - BEATEN was UPPERS! a really funky beatem up that was prevented from releasing on PS4 due to sony's rules on certain games. Surprisingly fun and reminiscent of Senran Kagura, might be a speedgame for me depending how long it turns out to be. Not least because my gal Daidoji is in it
